I checked Ravelry for some cupcake related projects and most of the purse-type ones were only crochet Embarrassed
I did find a knit-dishcloth pattern here (not a Ravelry link):
Perhaps two could be made and sewed together? I'm not sure..

I believe the pattern you posted is a heavy colorwork pattern, but I don't know much about intarsia Roll Eyes
Here's a craftster pattern that might be a bit similar..
