1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / IK Gatsby Girl Gauge (GGG) Question on: July 29, 2006 03:36:31 PM
okay, i LOVE the gatsby girl pullover in the new IK mag.  -- found here: http://www.interweave.com/knit/interweave_knits/preview/2006_fall.asp

but i can't bear spending $80 for a sweater, so i want to substitute yarns.  but my problem is this:
1) IK says use rowan cashshoft DK -- gauge 28sts & 36rows/4" on sizes 4 and 3 needles.
2) Rowan says that cashsoft DK's gauge is actually 5.5sts/1" or 22sts/4" on size 6 needles.

so do i buy a DK weight substitute and knit really tightly on size 4 needles?  do i buy a fingering weight yarn and knit regularly on size 4 needles?  is there a possibility IK made a typo and really i should be on the larger needles?

or if anyone has any specific yarn subsitution suggestions that would be amazing.

thanks in advance.

2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Lace shell by Michelle Ciccariello, anyone? on: January 25, 2006 11:42:38 PM
so, i just started this beautiful lace shell -- free pattern available on elann.com here: http://secure.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=106024

and i'm REALLY incredibly nervous about it.  1) its my first real attempt at lace  2) the yarn and needles seem so teensy 3) i've never used a lifeline and 4) its really late at night.

i figure i have a pretty long time before the northeastern united states actually gets warm enough to wear this thing -- if i can finish it sucessfully -- but i want someone (or someones!) to hold my hand through it.

anyone interesed in a KAL???  pretty please.

my yarn is the same as recommended but in naples teal.  its beautiful and soft.  i've just finished the neck and i basically have an inch of moss stitch that i want to just magically grow into some beautiful lace stitch.

so join me!  what adventures we will have!!

3  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Revolution in fall knitty on: September 13, 2005 12:44:04 PM
i just saw the new fall knitty today (i know, slow me) and i want to try my hand at the "revolution" jacket.  it'll probably take me a while to actually get started but i'm just curious.

anyone else interested?
