41  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / men in tights tee for mb swap! (freezer paper stencil) [now wih pattern] on: January 30, 2011 06:10:58 PM
sheepblue was kind enough to explain to me the whole freezer paper stencil process. i recently participated in the mel brooks themed swap and was able to use the process to make a tee for my swap partner! we both ranked robin hood: men in tights high on our favorites lists, and this is from one of my favorite scenes in the movie!

of course i had to push my luck by attempting a two-color stencil on my first try, but things worked out! i had a very small amount of bleeding under the stencil in a couple spots where i put the black on top of the white, but fortunately it was in non-essential areas and i was able to fix them up with a paintbrush.

thanks for looking! c&c appreciated!  Cheesy

here's my original pattern i drew up on my pooter! if anybody uses it, send me a pic! =)
42  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / spaceballs alien stuffie! on: January 30, 2011 05:56:39 PM
hey all, i recently participated in the mel brooks themed swap, and made my very first stuffie ever! wanted to share... he's a lil rough around the edges, but i think he makes up in personality what he lacks in craftsmanship! =)

he's about 6" high, made of felt scraps and scrap quilt batting. details are fabric paint, cane is sculpey. i learned a lot making this lil guy. i will definitely be attempting more stuffies in the future, but with better qualities of materials to start with and a lil more preparation in the planning department before starting!  Grin

thanks for looking, c&c appreciated!
43  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / fabric collage wall art! on: December 22, 2010 08:16:45 AM
so i already posted these over on the last-minute christmas craft-a-long ( https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=367117.0 ) but i wanted to share them here too...

it all started when my brother's girlfriend and i decided we'd craft for each other instead of buying christmas presents. we exchanged wists, and this https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=197185.0 was on both of our lists! the first thing on her list was an art print of a cup of coffee.... which inspired my first fabric collage with paint pen stitches and button embellishments.... and it was so fun and easy and turned out so cute that it snowballed from there and i ended up making them for almost all the ladies on my list this year...
(the pics are a lil light and not as crisp as i'd like, but oh well...)

44  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / what to make for the crochet junkie with everything....??? on: December 01, 2010 09:33:42 PM
so my mom is one of those people - if she needs something, she just goes out and buys it. either that or the things she does need are so technical i'm outta my depth trying to figure out what to buy.... but her second most favorite hobby (besides breeding, raising, and showing heritage breed chickens) is crochet!!! i want to make her a crochet - handy - stuff gift basket.....  i'm already making her a set of those stitch-marker (isn't that what the little beaded hook things are called?)  and i read once around here somewhere where some folks were making little wallet-type things to keep their crochet hooks in - what are those things called and can anyone direct me to a good tutorial?  - if someone was making YOU a basket of crochet-related goodies, what would you hope to find in there?

any help would be greatly appreciated, folks!! =) thanks in advance!

45  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / 15 minute cupcake cutie! on: December 01, 2010 06:46:55 AM
i've spent the last 3 WEEKS painting ornaments for the PTO to sell at a fundraiser they do each year. so when one of the other pto ladies contacted me just as i was FINALLY finishing up the last batch and asked for a custom ornament, you'll forgive me if i wasn't super enthusiastic.  Wink so i got to thinkin, there's gotta be some other way i can do this..... and here's what i came up with!! it was super easy, and seriously came together from a few scraps of felt i had laying around in maybe 10 minutes. then i have to thank that button stocking ( https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=365725.0 ) for giving me the idea for the sprinkles, and i then decided the rest of the ball needed a little excitement, so i used a tube of irridescent glitter glue to pipe swirlies on the rest of the bulb. under 15 minutes, bulb was done! finished it off with a handmade bow decorated with some press-on rhinestones i had laying around. next year, i'm doing all felt ornaments for the pto and leaving the paints in the box!!!  Grin

46  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / christmas ornament fundraiser! on: December 01, 2010 12:22:22 AM
the pto @ the school my kiddo goes to does an event called "cookies with santa" every year. at this event, they sell christmas ornaments to raise money so the pto can buy christmas presents for underprivileged children within the school district. i managed, somehow, to volunteer myself to do a bunch of ornaments for the sale. here they are!

(these are my favorite. on the back they say "santa knows that you've been naughty, but here's the inside scoop- he's running out of coal this year, so you get snowman poop!" and they're full of mini marshmallows)

hope you like!  Smiley
47  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Our Lady of the Working Class on: November 27, 2010 01:11:23 PM
Here is a painting i did from a tattoo pattern. I had a client come in and tell me he wanted me to design a sort of patron saint for the working class. He really kinda just left it at that and let me run with it. It was so fun coming up with the design, and i was so peased with the finished sketch, i asked if he would mind if i held onto it and made a painting from it. he said that would be fine. (unfortunately i didn't get a picture of the finished tattoo itself.) Anyways, here 'tis!! =)

It's canvas stretched over a cradleboard made from 2x4's and masonite. finished dimensions are somewhere around 3' x 4'. the paint is acrylic, and i've also used sharpie, metal leaf, and acrylic gel medium. Actually, the gel medium idea is my favorite thing about it and, i think, a stroke of genius!! i wanted to add some texture to the flat pink area, but i wanted it to be subtle. then i got the idea to put gel medium into a frosting bag and actually pipe it onto the canvas! then i went back after it dried and made a wash with thinned down white acrylic and put it overtop. i'm so happy with how that came out and ever since then have been having visions of frosting a big canvas the way you would a cake; adding different pigments to the medium and literally piping the design right onto the canvas! add that to my "one of these days" list..... =)

thanks for looking! c&c's welcome....
48  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / what is that bartop stuff called and where do i get it?!?! on: November 23, 2010 10:16:05 PM
okay, so there's this stuff i've heard called bartop (bar top)!!???  I've seen where people have put photos or collages or tiles on tables / counters / bars and maybe some glitter or something and then poured a thick layer of clear resin - like stuff over it. makes it impermeable but is nice & clear? anybody know what this stuff is, know a brand name it's marketed under, know where (*hopefully a major chain store, as i live in the boonies*) i can buy some? your help would be appreciated mucho!!! thanks!
49  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / your taxidermy sleeps with the fishes!!! on: November 18, 2010 10:29:33 PM
so i went to the thrift store a while back and came home with a dead fish. why did i come home with a dead fish? honestly, i have no idea. he was cheap, and he spoke to me. so i brought him home, and put him on the kitchen counter, and there he stayed for a good two weeks, until he spoke again. what did he say? he said "Luca Brasi sleeps with tha fishes!!" I'm the last person who's gonna argue with a statement like that. now he hangs on my living room wall.  I'm just waiting for him to tell me what the banner's supposed to say. So far he's been pretty quiet. (anybody know how to say "he rests" in italian?)

(the portrait is of Lenny Montana, the actor who played Luca Brasi in The Godfather)
50  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / whimsy house (VERY image heavy!!!) on: November 18, 2010 10:18:16 PM
so i was helping my mom pick out a dollhouse for my niece last Christmas... and i saw all these crazy detailed wooden kits and was like... "i want one of those!" ...she got me one. it was lots of fun figuring out how to put the durn thing together, especially since some of the numbers didn't quite match up how they were supposed to, etc. but when i finished it, i was like... now what? so i decided to just paint it totally outlandish/fun... when i finished that, i was like.... now what? after that the project kinda took on a life of its own.... it's not quite done 'cause my whimsy stash is (not surprisingly) totally busted..... and i've reached a point where i'm just not sure what i wanna do with that last room and that last little space on the downstairs porch....  anybody got any ideas? =)
