1  The Ultimate Good vs. Evil Fight: T-Rex against triceratops. in Halloween Costumes by quitekate on: November 08, 2011 03:44:02 PM
Hi all!  Very excited to be entering this year's costume contest.  My husband let me host a Hallowe'en party at our house for the first time in a few years (it was previously a bit of a touchy subject after I rather overdid the decorating at our old flat at took down some parts of the ceiling).  Anyway, this year's theme was 'Good vs. Evil'.

We decided to represent the ultimate prehistoric fight: Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Triceratops.

I must just interrupt this tale as I've just remembered that I still can't post pictures.  Sorry about that.  Links will have to do for now.  Hope you still enjoy them!

I'm the good, peaceful triceratops and my other half is the evil, blood-(and beer)-thirsty T. Rex.

The heads, hands and feet are cardboard and papier mache. The suits are shop-bought boiler suits, with new tails and quilted bellies.  The best thing about these costumes was that they were super cheap and super fun.  Bad thing was that the heads got quite hot and it was hard to drink in them - we had special long straws to try and help that but, man, it's not fun drinking beer through a straw.

FFFIIIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHHHHHTTT!!!

2  Patchwork Christmas star decoration in Winter Holidays by quitekate on: November 27, 2010 05:13:02 AM
Hi!  I've just finished a little patchwork star decoration for Christmas and I thought I'd share it with all of you.

course, this being the first time that I've ventured out to make my own post I can't post a picture - just click below!

My Mum has 3 of these that she made (when she was pregnant with me, I think) and they come out for the tree every year.  I've been meaning to make one for some time, but have only just got around to it.  Mum gave me 5 cardboard diamonds cut out and ready for me, and told me that it would be best if I made it from 'fabric with memories'.  One of her stars has off-cuts of her wedding dress stitched into it.  So I started with bits of my own wedding dress fabric in mine, and then built the other colours around it from scraps I already had.

They're practically free to make - just pieces of recycled cardboard and scraps of fabric from the stash, the only things I bought were some new pins for the points.  But they are really time consuming.  I think they make lovely little heirloom projects though.

I've done step-by-step pictures for a Flickr set here:
