1  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Fresh from the kiln (pic heavy) on: May 08, 2014 07:26:39 PM
I've had a few things piling up but we finally fired last night with some good results and some not so great including a ding bat moment for me.... ("Um, what glaze color is that? " "White"  " Are you sure there's glaze on it? "  " Of course, I remember glazing it."
Yeah well.... I must have been having a brain fart moment. And on to the results....

Yep... It's supposed to be white. Oh well, I can just paint on some flowers Smiley

Tiger kitty.  The glaze didn't flux properly so I'm going to clean it up and refire it.

This little birdie found a rogue flame but the other side had some issues to like it was under fired.

This is my favorite! The colors can out great Smiley

7  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / polymer clay cake toppers with a story on: September 18, 2012 08:27:13 PM
So this cake topper has quite a story with it.  Besides being crafted from Wed at 10pm to Sat at 1pm (wow to me cause that includes sleeping, caring for family and a four hour drive.... oh and fixing the wedding cake but that's another story), this is a reminder to all about how important family can be and no matter what, good things will happen.

Two weeks ago, I got a phone call from my husband's birth father.  My DH was adopted at age 4 with no real information about his birth family other than he had a sister and they were taken away from an abusive home.  It was lucky for everyone that I had taken that call, when my DH heard about it, he was not interested in talking to him at all.  After me playing mediator for a few hours, he finally talked to his sister (his dad and half sister had found her six months earlier).   With an amazing story about what had happen to the dad; divorced from his crazy wife (the person who did loose the kids) and in the military, he was not allowed to have his kids (it was the seventies and there were problems in some of the systems).  Anyway, when his kids were "adults", he started looking for them.  Hired detectives, searched the internet when it came out, reached out with newspaper ads.... but anyway, when the sister was found, she had more information about where they had gone in the system that lead them to where he was living and they found him thru yearbook.  So, the next weekend, we met his sister for the first time in forty years as well as her daughter who was getting married the following weekend.  My husband wasn't sure he wanted to go up and meet his dad yet but after myself, his newly found sister and his newly found niece (bride to be) convinced him to go.  That was Tuesday and since we were now going, his sister had asked me to make the cake topper.

Onto the picture!

Hope you enjoyed
8  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Raku zebra mask on: August 14, 2012 05:20:42 PM
After a summer break from the world, I wanted to begin posting some of my raku pottery that I've made.

For those that don't know what raku is, its set apart from other pottery by the glazing process.  Once you glaze a piece, its fired to temp (cone 06) and pulled immediately out of the kiln and placed in a metal can full of combustable material (newspapers for me) so that the glaze cracks from the extreme temperature change and anywhere there is no glaze, the clay absorbs the smoke and turns the clay grey/black.

9  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / GlasClay... anyone ever heard of it or use it? on: July 25, 2012 01:30:51 PM
There is a bead fest heading my way and there is a workshop on GlasClay... ok, I don't know if it is specifically that brand but its glass that has been suspended in a medium to make it "clay like" in its properties.  It dries and fired in a kiln (around 1200-1500F if I remember correctly).
From my understanding, its similar to metal clay.... as in X (X being silver, gold, or glass) suspended in medium to make it pliable for an amount of time and then fired at a high temp when it dries.

Just looking to see if the class is worth it or, just get the stuff and start playing.....
Thanks in advance!
