2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Political Statement CD Swap on: May 31, 2005 12:46:46 AM
I'm on a CD swap idea roll, so here's one I'd really like to be a part of...a CD of songs with political ideas/statements.  What do you think?

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Ultimate love/ultimate heartbreak CD swap? on: May 30, 2005 11:15:50 PM
I don't know about you, but I'm obsessed with making theme CDs, especially love and anti-love CDs.  I was thinking of a swap that consists of two CDs...your ultimate love mix and your ultimate heartbreak mix.  Any takers?

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders" list and will not allow those members to participate: That's correct.
Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: Yep.

Details of swap:
Make something for someone's kid(s)!  I know a ton of us love crafting for our kids, so I thought it'd be fun to have a swap focused on things relating to babies and children.  Anything goes....diaper bags, clothing, toys, blankets/bedding, cloth diapers, whatever!  I don't want to put a number on how many items you have to send, but I think something like one big item or several smaller items is a good yardstick.  Just think about what YOU would want to receive!

Please abide by these rules:

1. Read the swap info at https://www.craftster.org/swapsinfo.html.
2. Try not to get too far into your project until you receive your partner's info.
3. PLEASE send your item ON or before the due date.  If something comes up and you think you're going to be late, contact me (the organizer) and your partner.
4. Promise to complete the swap. If you are not sure whether you can commit, please do not sign up.
5. Send your package w/ delivery confirmation if within the US. PM me w/ the number.
6. PM me and your partner when you ship.
7. PM me and your partner when you receive.  And remember, it's always nice to say thanks!

If you're still excited, please send this information to the organizer (me!):

Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?
Have you participated in a swap before?
If so approximately how many?
Please list the swaps you are currently signed up for:
Talk about your kids! Ages, genders, sizes, likes and dislikes, that sort of thing:
List 5 items you would love to receive (no promises, but I'll try to match people up accordingly):
Types of crafts you do:
Type(s) of item you are considering making:
Do you have a way to post pictures?
Do you give your partner permission to post pictures of your work?
Any other info you'd like to add!

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.  Also, if you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me via PM or email.

Thanks and I look forward to organizing this swap!

Here are the match-ups.  I'll PM everyone with their partner's info very soon (unless Eliza wakes up from her nap!):

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Edit: Baby/Child swap? (no, you can't trade your kid in) on: May 03, 2005 09:48:24 PM
Hi there.  Would anyone else be interested in a swap centered around babies/children?  Maybe diaper bags, baby/kid clothes (crafty clothes, of course), cloth diapers, toys, etc?  I love making stuff for my daughter and think it'd be fun to make stuff for a stranger's kid(s)!

Anyone else interested?

6  UNITED STATES / Virginia / Richmond Craftster Meetup on: April 10, 2005 07:20:37 AM
Hey there.  I started a Richmond Craftster Meetup group in hopes that we can get together and talk about crafts and experiences, etc.  If anyone's interested in joining, here's the link:

It's currently under the group topic of Craft Swaps, but that's just because there wasn't one for general crafting.  You certainly aren't required to participate in any swap to be a member.

If you have any suggestions or concerns about the group, please let me know.  Thanks!

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tattoo diaper bag, fish purse, Eliza bag...critique? *picture heavy and wordy!* on: April 04, 2005 12:26:44 AM
Hey there.  This is my first completed project post!  I'm almost nervous!!  These are most of the bags that I've made since discovering Craftster.  Well, I guess that would make them most of the only bags I've ever made!

Here is my first bag.

It's really bad.  It was the test run for a small diaper bag I made my husband's cousin for her baby shower.  You can see the frayed edge by the handle where I didn't leave enough of a seam allowance.  Oh well.  Live and learn.  The gifted bag was MUCH better.  The little angel on it is my daughter, Eliza Jane.  I just took a photo of her and played around with it on Paint and printed it on an iron-on.  The bag was too plain and this way I can show her off whenever I carry it!

Here is my first purse.

Better picture of the fabric:

Picture of (some) of my stuff to show scale:

It didn't turn out too badly.  I used sew-in interfacing, which I don't think I'll use again unless the bag has a seperate bottom piece.  I put a zipper pocket in this one and the other purse I made (which I forgot to take pictures of), but they didn't turn out all that well.  I don't have a zipper foot and the stitching is just all crazy.  Oh well.  I was experimenting to see if I wanted to put zipper pockets in all the purses that I make and the answer was a resounding "no".  It wasn't that hard, but it was much more time consuming than pockets like in my diaper bag.

Which leads us to my favorite of all favorites, my big diaper bag:

Packed with most of my day-to-day items:

Classy kitchen chair shot:

I love this bag so much.  I've been IN LOVE with the fabric for months and months and bought some to have a diaper bag made back in the fall.  But that was before I found Craftster and worked up enough courage to learn to sew!  Thanks for saving me $30-40 bucks, Craftster!!

I like the pockets, but wish I'd put some in on the other side.  I put in an open bottle pocket, but since I breastfeed, it's mostly for my water bottle.  I made it big enough to accommodate a sippy cup for when Eliza's older.  The bag is really big, but that's good since we cloth diaper and they take up a fair amount of room.  In the picture, I've stuffed it with two diapers, a bottle, breast pads, wipes, a changing pad, a wet bag (for diry diapers), and a rattle, but there's still a fair amount of space for more stuff.  Always good with a baby!

So yeah, those are my bags.  I'm hoping to have enough bags done by the end of the month to sell at a local market.  Do you think bags like the last two would sell?  I'm thinking this market will mostly draw college, punk, and indie kids.  If it goes well, I'd like to try a weekly farmer's market that draws a more affluent crowd (although "more affluent" is a pretty loose term when talking about punk and indie kids, usually!).  Any suggestions?  Think it's worth making a bunch more?  I have some pretty kickass fabrics that I can't wait to try out!
