1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Using PDF Patterns? on: March 03, 2011 06:36:56 PM
I've used patterns for almost all of my sewing projects, and let's face it, sometime you can't find what you want and it can be spendy and inconvenient. I am interested in using PDF patterns but never have and was wondering how printing them works. I usually pin my patterns to my fabric before cutting, and was thinking printing on regular printer paper, cutting it and taping it and trying to pin through that thick of paper would be difficult. Is there some special trick? Because I hear so many people talking about using PDF patterns and the idea kind of scares me - seems like it would be a little harder?

Tips, opinions, etc please?
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Handwashing/ Machine Drying? on: October 23, 2010 11:31:03 AM
I searched pretty good for this and didn't find it, so hopefully I'm not asking a stupid question!

My washing machine recently broke and I am going to need to wash fabric by hand (and probably my clothes too. ugh!) so, first of all - I'm not really sure HOW to hand wash things... LOL. Never done it before, so any tips there (detergents, techniques, etc) would be great.

But, my bigger question is: should I still machine dry? Does everyone machine dry their fabric? I always have, but I've found some people saying they always hand wash, so I was wondering - if it's a matter of the delicacy or quality of the new fabric being retained, should I be hang drying my fabric, or is it just as well to machine dry it as usual? Do I just hand wash and then ring out the fabric before drying it?

I know these probably sound like stupid questions, but I'm 24 so I am all modern technology and have never had a real need for these things. :/ Help!? Thanks in advance!!!
