1  Re: Making your own halloween costume-along.. in Halloween Costumes by coccyx on: September 04, 2008 09:43:55 PM
I'm going to dress up as the woman in the right foreground of Seurat's "Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte"

I found the perfect shirt for it today, and I'm planning to make the bustled skirt.  I found a cheap parasol online.

I'm stuck on a few details:
How do I make the little top hat?
Should I cover everything (and my skin) in dots for authenticity, or is that overkill?
Would you recognize it?

Also: if anyone has a light purple flat sheet, preferably with some kind of subtle ditzy floral or dot pattern, I will buy it off you!!!!  PM me!

2  Re: Alcohol/Bar Related Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by coccyx on: July 29, 2008 07:32:51 AM
Got my package from rira today!
Thanks for doing this swap, it's been fun.

Sorry about my crappy webcam pics, my camera was doa when I tried to use it.

A picture frame, cute flower shaped bottlecap coasters, and a "beers of the world" journal

Guinness windchime. It didn't survive the trip so well, but it still sounds nice.

More of the coasters and a "Big Bad-ass book of shots" that will definitely get lots of use  Wink

Thanks rira!  Cool

3  Re: Alcohol/Bar related swap (signups through 30MAY2008, sendout by 12JUL2008) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by coccyx on: May 21, 2008 08:29:14 AM
Speaking of, does anyone know of any on-line tutorials for things to do with bottle caps? or any other ideas/links that would be relevant to this swap?
I took one each from the greatest beers I've had so far and put them in an Ikea Ribba shadowbox frame.  I'm drinking my way to a set of 3, but for now the finished one is holding up my books.

You can also squish two together to make checkers.
Or rivet them upside down to a rubber mat to make a nice scrapey doormat.
And I bet there's a way to make a bottle opener out of bottle caps.

4  I'm dreaming of a black and tan christmas in Winter Holidays by coccyx on: October 28, 2007 12:57:31 PM
This is why I love/hate working retail.  It's three days to Halloween and I'm in the mood for Christmas.

Looking over at the empty six pack sitting by the trash, I notice the harp looks an awful lot like a wing.

So this:

Turned into this:

Cheesy and quick, but the beer-swilling friends should enjoy getting them as gifts.

5  tea and cake or death? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by coccyx on: October 14, 2007 07:04:34 PM
We've already spent a lot of time discussing and planning our DIY, teaparty-themed wedding, but now we finally have a few things to show for it!

The invitations:

I'm dying to order the paper and get started on these, but we won't have a date until his immigration visa is ready.

The dress:
It's loosely based on this dress:

I've finished the lightly bustled underskirt so far. (apologies for webcam image).

The underskirt is white, and the ruffles are cream.  Over the ruffled area will be a sheer creamy fabric with celadon embroidered flowers and beading, and the dress itself will be a nearly white angel skin satin.

I'll post more as we get things done!

6  Re: old+ugly leather boots: recycling idea or trash ? in Discussion and Questions by coccyx on: May 28, 2005 07:14:06 AM
I like SheezCraftee's heels idea, just cut them down and save the leather uppers for a handbag, wallet, or you should have plenty to make a pieced belt: just cut it into strips along the short side, add holes (and grommets, if you want hardware) and lace them together with leather lacing.  do this until it's long enough for a belt.  then add several lengths of lacing to each end so you can tie it and have the fringy hanging part hanging down.  Then wear it with some jeans and your new sexy black heels.  Cheesy

I apologize for my crude sketch
