11  Sweeney Todd in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: July 18, 2011 03:01:53 AM
I've spent what seems like forever making this little fellow...but at last, he's done!  Cheesy Cheesy

He measures about 19 inches from head to toe and is made from deerseude, fleece, yarn, paint-splattered flannel, cotton, leather, real pin-stripe pants and some type of faux suede material for his vest. Yarn hair, acrylic hand painted features, prismacolor facial hair & eyeshadow, and a clay razor and accents (dots on his pouchy thing and belt buckle).

He can be coaxed to stand up, but that hair weighs a bit and prefers to sit. He's a birthday gift to a friend, so he's all wrapped up to be sent over to jolly ol' England... which is rather fitting I think.  Wink Cheesy
 Thanks for looking!~

12  Re: Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Nyxika on: July 08, 2011 07:50:31 AM
So I've been moving and waiting ..and waiting...and waiting for my internet to be connected and now I can post pictures of the absolutely phenomenal package Oodelally sent me! I am sorry if I kill your internet with the picture overload but the awesomeness deserves to be shared in all its glory!  Ready your wisting fingers! Wink

Each little item was wrapped up in brown paper with a delightful little fuzzy ball type yarn (that my cat absolutely adores). Each item had a little tag noting who it was from, but it's been awhile since I opened everything so if I mess up/forget one feel free to jump in and correct me Lauren!!  Wink Cheesy

Annddd...the whole package unwrapped! We agreed to spoil each other, hence the gazillion extras. ^__^

Cho Chang sent me the "M" sporting Ravenclaw colours! <3

From Snape, the most amazing cross stitch of Chibi!Snape from my wist!! <3

From Luna, a butterbeer cork necklace and radish earrings! I am so wearing these to the cinema.

From Mrs Weasley -- my first ever crocheted anything!! I adore it to pieces. It's so thick and warm. My camera kind of skewed the colours, it's perfect Ravenclaw Blue & Bronze.

And then moreeee crocheted goodies -- the most adorable snitch EVER. Look at it's fluffy lil wings. Aww, so sweet! It's going to hang proudly from my car's rear-view mirror. ^_^

Hagrid gave me a beyond incredible drawing of Diagon Alley -- the details on this blow my mind. From the name signs to the cauldrons to the spider in the corner. I am in such awe over this!!

From the Hogwarts Express trolley was some Every Flavour beans and some magical sugar-free sweets in a gorgeous bag that I spent much time admiring.

And..ooh, I forget who sent me this, *cue remembrall turning red* -- a sweet little pouch with amazing beadwork!!

and a brilliant tea pouch!! Seriously, this woman's sewing skills made my head spin.

and these cute little beanie bags with my favourite spells embroidered on them!! The one turned over is so you can see the pretty fabric on the back, they say Accio, Nox and Alohamora.

And this ...when I unwrapped it my brain just about exploded, it looks so authentic and brilliant.

When I opened it I saw the plushie chocolate frog which is *fantastic* ...and then I saw the card. Oodelally had asked for a photo of me and I never gave it too much thought...until I was confronted by my face on my very own wizard card!! (I'm on the front, which I've omitted to show Tongue but is just like the ones from the movie!) In my questionnaire under the 'your favourite characters' part I had mentioned I rather fancied Movie!Lucius, for purely shallow reasons, and the back of the card, along with info about my favourite treats, and the fact I am an active S.P.E.W. member, said "Rumored to have been romatically involved with Lucious Malfoy during their time studying at Howarts". I was crying tears of laughter for ten minutes straight. Such an amazingly clever idea, I love it!

Andddd if that wasn't enough, I even got some kawaii japanese extras!! I am fascinated by Japan and am beyond jealous that Oodelally was just there!  Cheesy

Lauren you were the most amazing swap partner ever, I love every thing you sent me, and I hope you feel the same when you get your parcel!!

I received from Angelicus today! Customs apparently thought she was sending me some dark magic items so they had a look but thankfully they sent it on through!

She sent me the most darling little booklet sporting my Ravenclaw colours! Each little page edge has been painted gold. It was wrapped beautifully, too, I didn't get a pic of that though, I was too eager to peek inside.  Cheesy

I love it, thanks Angelicus and can't wait to fill it up!!

14  Merlin Plush doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: April 07, 2011 12:39:24 AM
This past week I've been busy drafting a new plushie pattern, and once I finished the prototype I decided I couldn't leave him as just a blank base, I had to make him into someone cute.... so I made Merlin from the BBC show Merlin (or as it's known here, The Adventures of Merlin).

He's 12inches tall and completely hand sewn. I have this strange compulsion that I need to hand sew things when I'm trying them out for the first time.. which when you spend an hour sewing something just to realize you've stuffed it up isn't high on the fun scale.

Normally I'd hem the jacket but being a prototype I was just a tad bit lazy, also, this fabric is stupid stretchy stuff that does that ridiculous curling thing (technical term Cheesy) when you sew it, so the next Merlin will have a different fabric for his jacket, and a lighter colour for his tunic/shirt/thing. The colour is bugging me a bit but I couldn't find a lighter blue in nice drapey fabric. His belt buckle and shoe buckles are made from polymer clay.

I plan on making Arthur next, just to work the kinks out of the pattern, after that it's Sweeney Todd for a friend's birthday.  Cheesy

So my partner received a couple of days ago now but seems to be busy so I thought I'd post pics of what I sent her, 'cause I'm impatient like that. Wink I hope it's okay? Take points away from Ravenclaw Slytherin if it's not! Wink

Angelicus mentioned in her questionnaire that her favourite character was Luna and liked sewn items, so I sent her a teenie Luna plushie.

Luna is *exactly* 4 inches tall.  Grin  I made her a wand, and a teenie-tiny quibbler and that funny looking furry thing is a Crumple-Horned Snorkack and a little bag to hold everything.
Group shot:

She even has her signature radish earrings and Butterbeer necklace (made from polymer clay)

A shot of the Quibbler for size reference;

This swap has been super amounts of fun, bring on the Decked out for Deathly Hallows II swap now!!  Cheesy Cheesy

16  Sherlock & John Plush dolls. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: February 23, 2011 06:30:14 AM
I started these so many months ago and completed them a few weeks ago, but life happened and I never got around to taking pics. But now I have!

This is Sherlock Holmes and John Watson from the BBC adaptation of Sherlock Holmes; "Sherlock". I am a tad obsessed with this show - as my previous plushies will attest.  Cheesy

Sherlock is 19.5 inches tall They're made using the pattern I made for my Psych plushies. I modified it to give them posable fingers and tweaked some other bits, but overall they're pretty similar.

I sometimes think I am too overly concerned with details.

I normally use faux fur for plushie hair, but for Sherlock's style it just wasn't working. I ended up buying a Kemper doll wig and modifying it to fit.

And now, Doctor John Watson who is 17.5" tall! The inset is Martin Freeman, who portrays Dr. Watson in Sherlock, and the outfit I copied. I wanted to give him his signature cable-knit sweater but I'm only just learning to knit and it was a little out of my reach so I went with the back up plan.

And because John didn't have an epic wardrobe like Sherlock, I gave him props!  Cheesy  The iPhone is from the unaired pilot episode, it's 2inches tall and hand sewn.. I had a little trouble with it and it didn't turn out quite as neat as I'd have liked, but I think it's cute.  Wink

And the jumper next to him.. I found at a craft store. It was for a build-a-bear thing, but I couldn't resist. What more could a doctor who has a penchant for jumpers want than a medical themed jumper? It's very snuggly looking. His hair turned out a lovely shade of bright yellow in the photos. I'm sure it's not that bright in real life. My camera doesn't always want to play nice with me.

...and that's it for me again. Thanks for looking!!  Cheesy

17  Re: Harry Potter Craft-along 2011 in Craftalongs by Nyxika on: February 19, 2011 10:21:46 PM
We all just kinda craft together, so anything Hogwarts/Harry Potter related you can share here with other Hogwarts lovers.
Alot of craftalongs like to do monthly themes for the fun (and to add inspriation)

I started crocheted the cat toy snitch last night, its very cute, just got one wing left and to tie it all together and find something rattly to put inside  Cheesy the hardest part will be getting my two cats to play with it for pics as theyve been taught if they touch my yarn they get a smack  Cheesy Tongue

Ooh, very cool! With all the Potter ideas bouncing around my head at the moment I may be a frequent visitor to this thread. Wink As it is, I made my first every Harry Potter craft the other day and was tickled with how it turned out:

It's a wand with a Bowtruckle attached. Sort of a twist on the magical core of wands. I came up with a whole back story for it but people keep saying it's depressing, lol, so I'll leave it off.

I wish I could crochet!  I can't wait to see your snitch. Also, you have some very well trained cats, mine thinks what's mine is hers and no amount of shooing will convince her otherwise.

And technogoddess, that necklace is gorgeous. I've never actually seen a shrinky dink in real life before - are they hard or flexible (plasticy)? They almost look like glass shards; very cool indeed.

18  Harry Potter 'Bowtruckle' Wand in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: February 18, 2011 01:44:52 AM
Having signed up for the OTT Harry Potter swap seems to have flipped a switch in my brain and all I can think of is HP craft ideas! And this is my first ever HP craft; a wand!

I know the magical elements are always in the core of the wand, but I got to thinking, what if something was on the outside, instead? Then a twisted idea began to form in my mind; What if every Bowtruckle has its own tree to look after, that their life essence was tied to? When their tree dies, so do they. It just happens that one day a little tree was cut down and hacked apart for wand wood because the wizards didn't see the baby bowtruckle asleep in the tree. As the tree died, so too did the bowtruckle and its essence transferred into the twig. The wandmaker couldn't bear to part the two and left them together.

...Um, lol, I had a lot of time to think about the story while I making the wand!  Cheesy Anyway, details; It's 11.5inches long (all that would fit into my oven!) made from polymer clay over wood, painted with acrylics. I wanted to keep it very organic looking.

19  Sherlock Holmes & John Watson charity plushies in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: January 16, 2011 03:05:24 AM
It's been so long since I've posted anything here I think I'm going through withdrawal!  Cheesy

I've taken a little break from working on my Sherlock plushies in my "usual" style to make these little fellows! Sherlock is 8.5" tall, John just under under 8". I made them for a fandom auction that's going on over on livejournal to benefit the Queensland flood victims. They are made almost entirely out of fleece except for Sherlock's coat and scarf (which I'm not sure what kind of fabric it is, but I LOVE IT TO PIECES!) and John's jumper (which was made from a new/unused Dog's jumper) and then I added a few stitches so it would resemble John's real cable knit jumper.

ETA: Sherlock and John raised over $700 for the qld flood victims! \o/

20  Tiny "Sherlock" Clay figures [IMG HEAVY] in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Nyxika on: November 03, 2010 09:47:32 AM
I'm rather obsessed with the BBC program Sherlock and it's starting to show in my craft sessions. I haven't played with polymer clay for aggesssss until the other day, but while I am waiting on craft supplies to arrive so I can finish making some uh, Sherlock plushies (see: obsessed! lol) I decided to play around with clay.  The results, for the most part, I'm happy with, and surprise, surprise, are all Sherlock-related.  Cheesy

The World's Tiniest Consulting Detective!

I bought some bottles from Etsy, only didn't actually measure how big (or small) they were going to be. They turned out to be a lot smaller than my vague idea would have be believe, so I ended up sculpting a tiny Sherlock Holmes to stash in the bottle.

Sherlock is 1.5cm tall (not including the 'base' he's standing on). The picture of 221b Baker Street behind him is not quite 3cm tall. He was sculpted on a pin, with a pin..

They're all taken in macro mode which is a little too good for picking up details, i think... they look smoother (and cuter!) in real life, I think. Smiley
