1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Auctioning ATCs? on: December 07, 2006 10:08:26 PM
Hello everyone I'm super excited about this board I luurve it!

Anyway a friend and I are planning a ATC swap at my university and in order to create more interest we brainstormed that if we could auction off ATCs for a charity it would bring a more diverse group of people than those who just want to swap ATCs.  I know that you aren't supposed to sell your own ATCs but if the makers knew that it was going to be auctioned off for a charity would it be alright?  What are your opinions?

And while I got you here the plan: everyone who wants to trade ATCs brings as many as they want to trade, plus one to auction off.  We wanted to get an actual university gallery to post the donated ATCs and then have a silent auction with bids and everything.  Do you think this is a good idea?  I'm not sure which charity, but probably one dealing with art...haha.

Thanks for reading and your opinions in advance!
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Aboriginal/Australian Inspired ATC's on: November 27, 2006 02:21:24 PM
My first picture post in a long while!  I've traded these already with my Art Major friends!  We plan on organizing a in-person swap at our college!

They are painted with acrylic and have a thin thin plywood as the base.

Anyway: Kookaburra

Sugar Glider (or to some people a monkey, lemur, aye-aye, etc)

Ants and Larvae

Any comments/critisisms appreciated!  Thanks for looking!
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Quality Photographs? on: September 11, 2006 07:20:29 AM
Hi Everyone!

I've started my etsy account, but find that my photos are lacking in quality, especially compared to everyone elses (and it appears only good photographs appear in the "Featured" section).

SO! I was wondering if anyone had any tips on making a good photograph true to products color/shade/tint?  Like...types of lighting, background colors/texture ya know.

# of Flakers: 1

I need one swap angel!  All they need to do is make two smallish items, because her swap partner only sent one of the required three items!  She is in Europe so you have to be willing to ship internationally!

Here is her information:
Name: Tamar
Anything about yourself?: I'm 22 and an elementary school teacher (10/11 year old children) so anything for in the classroom would be great!! I personally love little journals and artwork. I'm not religious myself, i like more the philosophy side of the culture. I'm very much into language learning. My father is an archaeologist, and through him I'm also into artifacts/excavations see my flickr site for more info on me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunna/
Favorite ancient culture?: This was a really hard choice! For myself i would say Japanese culture, which i love to learn more about! But in school the topics i most likely will teach my children are Roman and Greek culture/history. So I'll go with that. Romans as a 1st choice.
What do you like about your chosen ancient culture? I like the philosophy-element of the cultures, the mythology about their gods and worldimage, language, art, things related to mysteries and their knowledge about the universe/stars/calender/math, daily life and clothing. haha, anything really!
What don't you like? can't think of anything
Are there any particular symbols/gods/pictographs you like? nothing in particular
Any you don't like? also can't think of anything

What kind of items would be on your "wishlist?" maybe a little sculpture or piece of art? that would be neat. (post)cards are great, i also would love to have educational (handmade) poster(s) for in my classroom (remember, I'm in Holland and my students don't speak English! so lots of pictures/drawings please, but short words/sentences in english are ok), anything for role game/drama would also be superfun!
What kind of items would you not like to receive? the only things i personally won't use are earrings, for the rest i love everything!
What are your favorite colors? I like all colors, i do!
What colors do you like least? None, I'm really easy!

6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Siren/Mermaid Doll on: May 03, 2006 06:42:35 AM
I made this for the Fae Creatures swap for my partner JKaz--I thought I would make my first post on this board!

>>The whole thing

>>Detail of face

>>Detail of Hair

>>Detail of Hip Chain

Her tail is made out of black velvet, her fins and hair out of (I forget the name) sheer slippery fabric, and her red body is cotton with a bit of shine.  I hand painted her face with acrylics and decorated her hair and hip with beads and ocean charms!

Any comments are appreciated!

PixieSkull said I could go ahead and make a gallery b/c I recieved and she recieved!  Woot!

What I sent PixieSkull:

>I sent two altar cloths--a small green one with sewn fossil plants--the other one is a black altar cloth with the greek key machine stitched on the border.
>The box is a salt box
>A medicine pouch
>a dream catcher

>My pride!! A house for her favorite diety: Pan.  And Pan himself.  I painted it and embelished the house with polymer clay roof tiles, tree and vines.  I also put a bunch of grapes on the roof--the tiles are also sprinkled with Chamomile dust.  Inside is polymer clay pan!  the background is of the green man woot!  I'm super proud!
And here is what I recieved from our organizer!

>This is the beautiful box my stuff came in!

>All the lovelies in side the box
>A lovely set up so I can celebrate Beltane!
---an inspiring silk flower arrangement
---four element dics
---dried rose petals and grapes
>A beautiful wand
>a BOS
>and oils from BPAL!!

>A jewelry set dedicated to Venus (my favorite diety) in a rosery style (which I also love!)

>A rather bad picture of the Venus pendant
