For RhymeswOrange: Here are the puppets I have made. I will also be making a cute box or bag to store them in and I'm working on a little back story for each one. I hope you like them!

My personal favorite. Smiley

12  Thrift store sweater to awesome striped winter clothes!! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by PurpleLime on: October 25, 2010 05:19:00 PM
I picked up this adorable cotton knit sweater (with stripes!!!) at the thrift store a few weeks ago with it in my mind to make a pair of pants OR a shirt for my daughter from it. As I sat down to cut it today I realized I had enough there to make not only a pair of pants but a shirt as well if I paired it with an old polo I had in my recon pile. (Sorry I do not have before pictures, I usually don't remember them until after the fact.)

After some (not so) careful cutting (I admit, I hacked it to pieces) and creativity I came up with this: pants, shirt and stocking style cap. There is about 4 inches to spare on the length of both the sleeves and the pants, so I *hope* it will fit through this winter. The pants have a yoga style waistband for comfort (waistband made from the polo) and were made mostly from the sleeves of the sweater and a small piece to make up the seat of the pants. The strategically placed pockets on the shirt are to cover up the old stains on the polo where I surely spilled something awful (and for coolness of course!)  The hat was just the leftovers from the sweater after everything else was finished.

I don't think I have seen her this pleased with something in a while. She has not taken it off all afternoon, in spite of the fact that it is still warm enough that we have the windows open! DH tried to take the hat off of her so she wouldn't overheat and she squawked at him and ran to me so I could put it back on her. She is seriously in love with this outfit.... and I have to admit, I am wishing I had one for myself... Wink

13  Received WONDERFUL gift from RhymeswOrange!!!! in The Swap Gallery by PurpleLime on: October 19, 2010 06:32:49 PM
In my mail was a box. In this box was a fox. This fox is purple. And awesome... and my rhyme just broke, as did my grammar. Wink
It is a fox!!! It is a scarf!!! Drum roll please for the amazing purple fox by RhymeswOrange!!!

(Please excuse my ridiculously goofy expression, but I never have made a very good model and it was the only decent pic that showed all of the purple fox with her wonderfully LONG tail.)

A not so goofy pic:

The close up:

I cannot begin to express my utter delight with this AWESOME scarf/fox!! She is PERFECT and will see MUCH use this winter! Cheesy (See, I told you I'd be thrilled.)  Thank you RhymeswOrange for being such an awesome swap partner! Cheesy

The ONLY problem I have is that I will now have to figure out how to make another one for my daughter... she keeps trying to steal it.  Cry

She needs a name..... any suggestions?? Smiley

14  ReStyled Princess Dress from Yard Sale in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by PurpleLime on: October 11, 2010 10:49:28 AM
My mom has more time for yard sales than I do (much to my dismay) and she found this dress several weeks ago. Paid $2 for it.

Since it was WAY too big for my little princess we decided it needed to be cut down, re-sized and possibly restyled. This is what I came up with. (She thinks that it is the BEST dress EVER!!)

The back.

All in all, it wasn't bad for a $2 yard sale dress. All I invested was some elastic, thread, and TIME.  For those who are looking closely it has a safety pin holding the jacket closed. I plan on a gold frog closure for that. I just got excited and wanted to post NOW. Cheesy

Questions, comments, critiques are welcome and even insults are accepted with some degree of grace.  Wink

16  So my mom calls me... in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by PurpleLime on: September 17, 2010 09:42:31 AM
She informs me that she will be picking up my daughter to go to a very girly pink birthday party for her little cousin who is turning 3 and that Lilah needs to wear something suitably pink and fru fru. I have precisely one hour to have her ready to go. After looking through her closet and determining that all of her cute clothes are dirty I do what any reasonable mama would do... I sit down to sew her something new. Smiley
I found some pretty pink satin in my stash that has been waiting for a purpose in life as well as GOBS of pink lace in various shades and textures that will do nicely for a little skirt. With such limited time I didn't even bother to gather the lace. Grabbed a white t-shirt from her closet that had a little stain on the front. Added some lace to it and a lace flower to cover up the stain and voila!! Little girlie fru fru cuteness suitable for her first "big girl" pink party!

As an aside, the party went well and my little girl was the envy of everyone, including the birthday girl. oops. Cheesy

17  New? variation on pillowcase dress... in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by PurpleLime on: September 15, 2010 08:52:51 AM
I was given a pretty little pillowcase by my mother-in-law recently and I decided that it needed a greater purpose in life besides taking up room in my linen closet. So I spent an hour or so in my sewing room and come up with this cute variation on a pillowcase dress for my daughter. In case you can't tell by the pics, she thinks that she is the CUTEST thing alive. I have to agree. Cheesy I do feel the need to mention that not long after this pic was taken she got her hands on a RED dry erase marker... needless to say all my work is now ruined and I will be dying this dress some other color to hide the horrible red marker stains that now grace its lovely front. Ugh. Also please excuse the fact that she looks like she has black eyes. She had recently been onto my makeup. Again. So (without telling more of my daughter's antics) here it is!

18  Puppet Monsters!!!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by PurpleLime on: September 15, 2010 07:42:12 AM
This being my first post here, please forgive any craziness. Please???
My kids NEEDED some puppets to play with. I found a simple pattern online a looong time ago at http://www.onehourcraft.com/?p=455 that I used to make these. My kids have ADORED them! I had a fight on my hands trying to get these pictures for you guys/gals. Notice how there are two missing close-ups? Yea, that was my daughter's handiwork. Thank you Lilah.
Best of all for me, I got to dig into my stash of scrap faux fur and BUTTONS  Cheesy for this little project. They are super easy to make, only take a few minutes at the machine and about that much longer to sew on the buttons. Smiley I'll update the post if I find the original link for the pattern.
