1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / more sock yarns! on: June 20, 2007 08:03:52 PM
I came up with two new colorways this week. What do you all think?

The first is called "Martha" after my favorite customer at the yarn store I work at...the second is called "elizajam" which is my secret identity/alter ego superstar DJ name.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Kona fingering 2-ply AND how do you feel about nylon in sock yarn? on: June 11, 2007 07:30:49 PM
Has anyone used Kona Fingering 2-ply? What's it like? Appropriate for socks?

I'm looking to change my base yarn to something less expensive and Kona is the best deal I've found. It's 100% superwash so it can go in machines and come out fine.

The base yarn I have now is 75% superwash and 25% nylon, which people seem to like but I'm indifferent to. Do you feel the need for nylon in your socks?
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / RPM socks on: June 07, 2007 02:03:40 PM
These are the RPM socks from knitty. I sized up the pattern to 72 stitches to fit my boyfriend.

I used two skeins of Koigu KPPPM (I lost the ball band, sorry...)

More details on my blog.
4  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / sock yarns on: June 04, 2007 02:20:41 PM
here's some photos of the yarns i've been working on lately.

it's all sock/fingering weight yarn dyed with jacquard acid dyes. i'd love to hear what you think good or bad!

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Best Ever Jaywalkers! on: April 24, 2007 03:36:22 PM
Well, I think they're the best ever...

I used Claudia Hand Paint in Red Wagon. I'm pretty much in love with them.

There's more details on my blog
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / average size for child's socks? on: April 12, 2007 09:07:55 AM
I want to make a pair of socks for my sister (she's 9) but she lives far away, so I don't have her foot readily available to measure.

Women's socks are generally 64 stitches, men's are 72, is there general number of stitches for a child's sock?
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Wicked Sweater on: April 09, 2007 11:34:38 AM

The pattern is Wicked from Zephyr Style knit in Cascade 220

It's mostly stockinette, so knitting it was kind of boring...but I do most of my knitting in class lectures lately so this was actually really fantastic. Mindless, but still entertaining. I knit most of it in the dark during videos.

There's more details and pictures on my blog.

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Feather and Fan socks on: April 05, 2007 05:25:00 PM

I used Claudia Handpaints in Turquoise Jeans and Wendy's free Feather and Fan pattern. I kind of omitted the last row of the pattern, so the cuffs pucker and roll a little but I kind of like it that way! They're super comfortable, too.

More details on my blog.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Brioche Stitch: am I doing it right? on: April 04, 2007 07:53:33 PM
I'm working on Roza's Socks from the latest IK. It is based upon a k3, p3 rib, but the purls are in Brioche Stitch (well I guess the whole thing is in Brioche, but anyway).

Basically, mine just look like ribbed socks whereas the socks in the magazine look fancier. Brioche-ier. Am I doing something wrong?
10  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / I'm trying to dye some brown yarn... on: March 14, 2007 02:27:43 PM
I've been trying to dye some superwash yarn brown and it's not working. I have a bottle of the Jaquard Chocolate Brown acid dye, but it comes out a weirdo purple and sometimes pink. How do I make it brown?!
