1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / How could I make these dirty word necklaces? on: February 11, 2011 06:22:31 PM
I recently discovered these "dirty word" necklaces made by Under Oak Studios:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/underoakstudios?section_id=6519234 (some NSFW)

But I'm not sure I'd want to pay $40 for one, because they seem so easy to make. But I've never made jewelry, so I need some expert opinions. Do you guys think they'd be easy to make? It seems to me like it's just, bend some wire into the word, attach to a chain. Does that seem right? Also, could I get the supplies (wire, chains, and such) at a craft store like JoAnn?

Any help and opinions appreciated!
2  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Lots of recent projects (img heavy) [hats, amigurumi, plushie] on: December 08, 2010 11:32:02 AM
Haven't posted in a while, so here's some stuff I've done lately!

An earflap hat for my little brother. It's hard to tell, but it's black and bright bright lime green.

A green mesh-type skullcap, which unfortunately turned out a little too big

Off white earflap hat (my first project made without a pattern!) I wanted to add pompoms, but it didn't work out for me.

Black and white cat hat (also made without a pattern  Grin)

Mario mushrooms for my boyfriend, made with Wolfdreamer's pattern

Adipose baby amigurumi for my boyfriend. The pattern is from Ravelry.

Weird pigeontoed Snorlax for my boyfriend (Plushies are obviously not my strong point!) Also Wolfdreamer's pattern.

Snuggling his new Snorlax, also wearing a Chowder hat I made for him

Cat hat for my boyfriend's mom. I also made her a bear hat but forgot to take a picture.
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Help with a cable hat on: November 08, 2010 07:25:41 PM
Pattern: http://www.rheatheylia.com/index.php?page=patterns&id=5

I'm really determined to make this hat, 'cause I love cables and don't know how to knit anymore. But I'm already confused on round 3...
3. *fpdc in next 2 fpdcs, dc in space between the 2nd fpdc and the next* around: 42(48) stitches

It's supposed to be an increase round, but the way I'm doing it I'm getting no increases. I guess I'm confused by the dc part. Any help is appreciated! I neeeeed this hat!
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / How does this circle turn into a triangle? =/ on: October 29, 2010 01:07:36 PM
I'm making this hat http://www.crochetme.com/media/p/109077.aspx.

I made one ear so far, which gave me a little round cup shape, much like what I ended up with a while ago when I made a hat with panda ears. It doesn't seem right to me... The ears in the picture are totally triangular and cat-like. When I tried sewing my first one on, it just ended up looking like my panda ears. Is there something about how I sew it on that makes it triangular? Or does anyone have any other patterns for cat ears I could use instead?  Undecided
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Making a bigger plushie? on: October 28, 2010 10:21:50 AM
I really want to make my boyfriend the Snorlax plushie found here: http://wolfdreamer-oth.blogspot.com/2010/09/snorlax-plushie.html, but I want him to be BIG. I know that using thicker yarn and a bigger hook would make him bigger, but I already have some WW yarn that I want to use. Is there any way I could alter the pattern to make him bigger?
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Chowder hat on: October 26, 2010 08:02:11 PM
I'm gonna be making at least three of these. This one is for my little brother, then I need to make one for my boyfriend, and then finally one for myself  Grin

The pattern can be found at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/slouchy-grouchy-chowder-hat

The only thing I don't like is the color. I wish I could've found a slightly lighter purple. But oh well!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cotton Candy Tam on: October 18, 2010 08:03:02 PM
I started out wanting a beret, but the one I tried wasn't looking right, so I made a tam instead  Smiley

I used pink and blue Caron Simply Soft held together (hence the name "Cotton Candy"), and here's the pattern I used: http://crochetncrafts.com/rastahat.html

(Sorry for the uber crappy pics, I really need a camera!)

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / skip dc? what? on: October 16, 2010 12:19:57 PM
I'm making an adipose baby amigurumi for my boyfriend, and this part of the hand is really confusing me...

Rnd 8 sc in next 4 sc, draw up loop in next sc, skip dc, slip stitch in next sc (thumb
made) sc in each sc around

What does skip dc mean? I tried googling it but came up with nothing.
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / My first yarn falls! on: October 15, 2010 10:23:09 AM
I've spent years drooling over all the falls I see online, and since I started crocheting recently and have lots of yarn around, I figured I'd try making some of my own!

They're just very basic... I'm too scared to try dreads yet.

(I just kinda sloppily put them in 'cause I was excited to see how they looked!)

10  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / I call this one the Powerpuff Girl hat (a little img heavy) on: October 07, 2010 08:45:50 PM
I knew before I even started crocheting that I hate to make my own version of April Draven's convertible hat. So here it is!

This one doesn't show the colors very well.

My hair isn't long enough to put through the top yet  Roll Eyes

I'm REALLY proud of this. I love the colors and I think it's very "me".  Smiley
