31  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Shallyn's Purse on: December 09, 2010 06:30:41 PM
My niece, Shallyn, is five and a total girly-girl, so I thought I'd make her a purse for Christmas. I used this pattern to make the hearts: http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2007/04/suzettas-heart-pin.html
32  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / The Hide-My-Flabby-Arms Shawl on: December 03, 2010 02:10:33 PM
My mom frequently complains about hating her flabby arms and is always looking for a way to cover them up. Since her birthday is next week, I found this pattern: http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/aphrodite/aphrodite_1.html and made it for her.
Most important lesson learned with this project? Uh, lay off the wine which I'm trying to figure out a pattern. Despite seeing a picture of the shawl and knowing that it should be somewhat of a triangle in shape, I decided that I should slip stitch and connect the rows instead of that pesky "turn" thing it was telling me to do, thereby making a circle. "How's this gonna work?" I'd think to myself, slogging through a pattern that didn't make a whole lot of sense. I made it all the way through an entire skein before I realized my fatal error. I went through the 7 Stages of Grief, and then set about ripping out a week of crocheting and starting completely over. The good news is the pattern made a whole lot more sense the second time around!
I used Patons Candiana which is pretty soft but, alas, acrylic so I can't really block it. Eh, I'm just glad to finally have finished it!

33  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cozy Mary Jane slippers on: December 02, 2010 04:59:29 PM
After seeing Lydia the Strange's adorable slippers https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=127333.0 I just had to have some of my own. I added a flower a la fluffybunnies' pattern https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=365846.0

So cozy.
34  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Fakaktapus on: November 14, 2010 03:03:08 PM
After I saw PepperKitty's awesome Octopodes https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=114316.0 I knew I had to make one for my daughter. Because it came out a little wonky, I named her Fakaktapus.

35  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Stella Elephant on: November 14, 2010 02:53:45 PM
A friend's daughter's birthday was coming up and of course I'm broke so I made this little baby elephant for her. Her name is Stella. I used this pattern: http://www.allcrafts.net/fjs.htm?url=littlegreen.typepad.com/romansock/2007/11/instant-crochet.html

Here's Stella checking out a Ventura morning in November:

36  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Tuxedo tee shirt turned into a mini-dress on: October 30, 2010 01:57:31 PM
This wasn't a new or original idea but it is one of the few pieces of clothing I've made that actually turned out! I tend to rush through those inconsequential steps, you know, like measuring and cutting carefully, but this time I slo-o-o-wed down and looky! A wearable dress!

37  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Brobee hat on: October 23, 2010 09:42:06 AM
My daughter loves Yo Gabba Gabba so I made her a Brobee hat. I used this pattern http://www.allcrafts.net/fjs.htm?url=crochet-mania.blogspot.com/2008/11/stripe-crochet-baby-beanie-hat.html but it wound up a bit altered because let's just label my crocheting abilities as "emerging." It's a bit wonky but she loves it anyway.

38  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Lipstick Cozy on: October 22, 2010 05:45:31 PM
After seeing this https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=174111.0 by Cadmium_Red, I just had to give it a try. I am new to crochet so I was stumped for a minute on the back post sc but good old youtube to the rescue. I giggled to myself once I saw that the back post sc made the head extra...heady.

39  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Baby booties on: September 01, 2010 08:00:24 PM
I made these during the "nesting phase" of my pregnancy. Mary rocked them for a few months, and then of course, she out-grew them. She'll be two at the end of the month--where did the time go?  Cry

It took me 6 months but I finally finished The Great Beast!
