1  Re: Make-a-Friend Swap Round 9 :: Summer 2012 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by OrangeKnickers on: August 08, 2012 11:58:30 AM
Okay peeps, I received box #3 from Whistley and she's awesome.  I love steampunk, so she sent me a steampunk themed box.  Check it.

She made an embroidered birdcage thaumatrope.  One side of this little hoop has the birdcage, and the other side has a little bird.  You twist up the attached ribbons, and when you spin it the bird looks like it is in the cage.  She also sent a small box of random keys.  I'm totally going to get some good use out pf them.  The large item is a pair of steampunk inspired wrist warmers in my favorite colors, green and brown.

Whistley, I love them!!!!  Thank you so much for everything.  I could not have asked for a better partner.

2  Princess Bride Themed Teesha Moore bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by OrangeKnickers on: August 08, 2012 11:42:21 AM
After seeing all of the amazing Teesha Moore bags pop up and loving them, I finally decided to try my hand at it.  I made this Princess Bride themed bag for Whistley as my final large item in the Make a Friend Swap.  Now that she has received, I can post pictures.

This is the front of the bag.  I used that purple fabric with the circles as the inner lining of both the strap and the bag.  I let it peek out of the top a little so that I could affix a button tab closure on the bag.

This is the back of the bag.

I was very nervous about attempting the Teesha Moore style because I have never embroidered anything before.  I am really in love with the way it turned out, though.  It was tough to send it, but I knew that Whistley would adore it so that made it a little easier.  I like all of the patches that I made, but here are a couple of my favorites.

Plato, Aristotle, Socrates... MORONS

Anybody want a peanut?

I survived the Fire Swamp

R.O.U.S. They do exist

I really like the way the beading looks on this one.

I am so proud of the bag, and I can not wait to make more!  I am totally going to make myself one now.  I've been wanting a Harry Potter Teesha Moore bag ever since seeing the great bags SheepBlue puts out.  Now I can make my own.

Thanks for looking!

Okay everybody, I got a fantastic package from the best partner in the whole world, Whistley.
Here's the lot:

She is seriously my favorite person right now.  Em, you are awesome and amazing, just saying.  She opted to send a DIY kit and a medium wish.  She also included a Sudoku book as an added bonus because I love puzzles.

The DIY Embroidery Kit:

She included some muslin, a hoop, a pack of embroidery floss, a guide to basic stitches, and some crayons.  (Hey TroubleT, looks like I'll be able to experience the crayon tinting addiction first hand now.  Wink)  She also included two patterns from Urban Threads that were on my Wist that I somehow forgot to get in the group shots, so here they are below along with a close up of the embroidery stitching guide.

I'm going to have so much fun with this stuff!!!!

But, the absolute bestest thing ever is that she took a bunch of my favorite things (green and brown, makeup, fairies, and Daria) and combined them into an explosion of awesome.  check out this makeup bag that she made me.

As soon as I saw it I squealed.  I believe my exact words  were "Oh my god it's Daria!  Oh my god it's a Daria Fairy!!  Oh my god it's a Daria Fairy!!!!"  You guys, seriously, I love Daria so much and this is totally awesome.  (Can you tell I'm just a wee bit excited?)

Here is a closer look at the embroidery.

This is so perfect for me.  I love it!
THANK YOU so much!  I could not have a better partner.   Grin

I received from Zigg13pra and here is what she sent:

There was no note, so I'm going to do my best to describe what I got.

There are four brown and white coasters (? I think ?) that are really cool looking.  I said that I would choose either the brown or the white Ajah, and I like the way that both are represented here.  Also, these will look great in my house.

A little wood burned box.  Inside were these goodies:

A hand carved stamp and...

Wheel of Time decals (?).  They are printed on sticky paper, so I can adhere them wherever I want.

Thanks for everything, Zigg13pra.

Well, since Zigg13spra totally disappeared, I have no idea if she received or not.  USPS says that she received on the 7th, so I'll go ahead and post pics of what I sent her since it doesn't look like she's going to.  She said that she preferred items that she could wear.

Her favorite character is Perrin.

I painted a wolf onto a red T-shirt in honor of Perrin's wolf-head banner.  This was the first time I used freezer paper as a stencil and really like how it turned out.  I will absolutely be using this technique again.

She said that her favorite people group is the Aiel and she asked for Moiraine's head piece.

I made her an Avendesora necklace on a braided suede cord inspired by the Aiel.  Moiraine's kesiera has glass beads in two shades of blue along the chain and is secured into the hair with bobby pins.

I really enjoyed crafting for this swap, even though it didn't turn out so well for me.  I'm excited to do more freezer paper stenciling in the future.  I like how my items turned out.   Grin

BOX 1...

I received from the amazingly awesome Whistley and am finally getting a chance to post pics. First, the group shot:

These are a few of her favorite things:

Her favorite craft supplies- yarn, Sharpies, and buttons (!!!).
Her favorite characters- Mario (sweet!) in fusible beads, and bookmarks from Dr. Who, UP!, Merlin, and The Princess Bride.  Now I can chuck the magazine ad I was using in favor of a real bookmark.   Wink
Her favorite color- an amethyst and a vial of purple pixie dust.   Grin

Craft It:

She made me this awesome UP! adventure book journal.  I just recently saw the movie based on her recommendation, so I immediately recognized it.  It looks just like the one in the movie and it's adorable.  Also she made this "easy peasy snap wallet" in the cutest fabric.  I love, love, love the fabric of both the outside wallet and the inner lining.

Books!  Her hobby is reading, so she sent her favorite book The Princess Bride.  Also, She collects children's books, so she sent me two of her favorites, The Little Prince and Stellaluna.

Closer to Home:

Local- This bag of salt-water taffy was made in her hometown.  Yum!
Sentimental- Her family's very favorite place to go is Disneyland, so she made some Disney inspired hand-carved stamps.  One is of Mickey, and the other is from one of my favorite rides, The Haunted Mansion.  These are my first hand-carved stamps, so I can't wait to use them!

Thank you, Whistley!!!  I love it all and can't wait for box 2.  You rock!

Oh my goodness!  I am totally blown away by how amazingly awesome the 4x6 is that I received.  Jasminewolverine, I am so lucky to have gotten this piece from you.

"Day of the Dead Tiger" Acrylic on Salvaged Wood.

I can't even express how much I love it.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

8  Re: I <3 the Dollar Store Gallery in The Swap Gallery by OrangeKnickers on: July 07, 2011 12:25:38 PM
I received my package from dopey_44.  Here is a group shot of what I got:

She sent me a blanket, a beaded shawl/wrap, a shirt, 2 hats, 2 card holders, several flowers that can be used as pins or hair things, a mirror, a jewelry holder, a lunch bag, a tank-top purse, and a trinket box.  I also got a lovely hand made card that I forgot to snap a picture of.

Check out this blanket.  It's made from 4 baby blankets, sewn together.  The flowers are made from the trim.  I think that's really creative.

The most unexpected item was this open shirt.  The trim is made from a bath loofah and silk flowers.  I never would have thought to do something like that.

Here are some of my favorite items.  The wrap is gorgeous, and I love the way the jewelry holder and the mirror look together.  They are so cute!  I also really love the flowers and will totally wear them.  The white hat which is made out of a shammy is so soft, and the felt flowers are also a pin so I can take it off an wear it with other things too.

Thanks so much, Melissa!

9  Re: Digital Photography swap gallery in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by OrangeKnickers on: June 13, 2011 02:53:23 PM
I received from nicoleburdsall and got some fantastic pictures!  We did a 5x7 and an 8x10 in crafted frames and sent disks with 50+ pictures on them.  So first off, here are the frames:

A beautiful black and white picture of a rose in a black 8x10 frame with black scrolls and swirlys with rhinestones.  It's really gorgeous.

This amazing 5x7 frame.  Seriously, this must have taken forever to glue all of the individual pieces on.  This orchard looks so lush.

And now for some of my favorite shots.  It was so hard to choose!  Sorry dial-up users, but this is a really big post.  There were so many beautiful and interesting pictures that it was almost impossible to narrow it down.

THANK YOU so much, Nicole.

Ok, so I received my totally awesome package from Tygir.  Get your wisting fingers ready!

I blanked  on a group shot  Roll Eyes  so here are the individual pieces.  First off, a beautiful steamy fairy drawing.  I knew that this was coming, but it totally went beyond my expectations.  She is so adorable!

This picture does not do it justice.  I couldn't get good lighting because of the glass frame and the glare of the flash had unfortunate placement, but in real life the drawing is wonderful and I love it!

Next up, a beautiful tatted necklace (I need to learn how to do that!) and a gorgeous beaded bracelet.

I loved the bracelet so much that I had to put it on immediately, hence the poorly lit action shot.   Wink

I also got this adorable small cog embroidery.

It's one of the small hoops, and is just too cute!

last but not least, Tygir sent me some lovely lace as extras.  I can't wait to use them.

Thank you so much Tygir!  I love everything.  You fit my style exactly.
