1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Braggin' Bag on: December 11, 2011 12:20:50 PM
Im very impressed! great work for a 7 yr old! He is a very talented, generous boy! You must be sooooo proud of him! I think handmade gifts are amazing, even more so when they are thought out so well. I'm sure his sister will be proud to tote her ferret around in. Kudos! Grin
2  COOKING / Dessert / pirate birthday cake on: December 10, 2011 03:53:13 PM
i used playmobil toys to decorate, and various candies. not perfect, but my son was happy.

i'm no betty crocker. and discovered chocolate cake doesnt like to stand on it side. so, i made a seperate flat choc cake, and the ship was made of white. the flag was a fail, but at least it was edible. i used brown sugar as sand, some swedish fish. used rolo's as cannons, wasnt able to put the candles in them. used wafer sticks as the railing. and a pirouette as the mast. i put a dowel rod down the center to keep it standing straight. but it didnt break in the right place.
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / weirdo with a beardo!!! on: December 10, 2011 03:38:17 PM
i recently discovered the phenomenon that is that bearded hat. created my own pattern for the hat and followed these links to make the beard http://sunmoonearthandstars.blogspot.com/2011/05/pet-peeve-rant-and-free-crochet-pattern.html and mustache http://bluestockingstitching.wordpress.com/2010/09/05/free-pattern-crocheted-handlebar-moustache/. i attached the beard with buttons, so the hat can be worn without the facial hair. first shot was a bit small, so, i passed it on to my 6yr old. he loves it.
adult size:
Correction, used the mustache pattern here. http://crochetme.com/media/p/95351.aspx
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / aunt Lindy's paper dolls and repurposed book cover carry case on: December 10, 2011 03:08:13 PM
i've been looking for a while for a nice, sturdy paper doll set for my 6yr old niece for christmas. i found this post: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=386593.0 and purchased the fabric panel here: http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1b30c51e-225b-4a2c-a99b-aafcc94a4abb once i received the fabric, i got started straight away. in researching a bit, i decided the best route for me was to do a rough cut off the dolls and clothes, and iron them onto a heavy interfacing (left from a previous project, and great way to use all of my little scrap pieces). after they were all attached, i cut the dolls and clothes out with my GOOD scissors. i knew i wanted to make a nice carry case for them, but wanted to keep each doll and their matching outfits seperate from the others. i have been dying to repurpose a book cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4RFH0q0Osk, and thought this would be the perfect project. after a few failed attempts at different kinds of pages/pockets, i decided to use 9x12 sheets of colored felt. i sewed fabric pockets to each sheet. i then sewed the felt sheets to one of sheet of felt that would be glued to the inside of the book cover. i used a box cutter to remove the page from a thrift store book. i sewed 2 strips of fabric and added a magnetic snap. using a heavy spray glue, i attached it the felt sheets to the book cover, including the magnetic snap straps. i let it set overnight, then i put each doll on one side of the page, and matching clothes on the opposite side.

in hindsight, i wouldve have purchased a taller, wider book. and trimmed the felt sheets to fit a little better before sewing on the pockets and gluing it to the book. and made the magnetic strap shorter, but now it can double as the handle. also havent quite figured out how to get the tabs on the clothes to lay down right on the dolls. let me what you think!

MunLtStmpr, so glad it fits and you like it!! i was so inspired by what you and april put in your wist/pinterest and questionnaires, but had a difficult time bringing my ideas to life! i am not a jewelry designer. i had a great time experimenting though!! haha!!
It fits perfectly!  I never thought of using hooks and eyes as the closure.
that was a last minute idea. i had already sewn it together, and forgot about planning the closure! learning experience! Roll Eyes

10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: cuff bracelet swap (signups 4/18/11 to 4/29/11 ) (sendby 5/21/11) on: May 15, 2011 05:00:03 PM
Aprilagain, Sorry to hear about the hurtful comments your "friend" made. you are very creative & talented. Do not allow her jealousy or insecurity to hinder your vision. You are fully capable of making beautiful items and we, as fellow swappers/partners, are lucky to see your creativity. It was unspeakable of her not to acknowledge your shocking news. And speaks volumes of her character. Regardless of your relationship with your father, it was definitely devastating. My thoughts are with you. Be strong & craft on! I know that I will be nothing less than blessed and amazed by what you create for me. I join these swaps with the full understanding that other crafters are creating with their own vision based on my wants/suggestions. If I was expecting something specific, I would create it myself. I admire the outcome of other crafters and appreciate that we have this outlet to share. Thank you!! Grin
