2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cheaper than filtes king van dyck substitute for Teva Durham Lace Leaf Pullover? on: June 25, 2005 08:06:44 PM
So for once yarndex let me down....  Roll Eyes

So i was wondering if anyone else had had luck knitting the Teva Durham Lace Leaf Pullover in something a little less bank-breaking?

i prefer natural fibres but i'm willing to compromise my ideals for this sweater.   Wink

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / cork wall art on: June 25, 2005 06:17:09 PM
so i'm in the process of revamping our small apt dining area to more of a floor-cushiony, low table kinda deal, instead of rickety card table and hella-uncomfortable folding chairs (can you tell we're grad students?) and I wanted some exciting wall art.

corks to the rescue!

in context

I used corrugated cardboard as a backing and pushed 3/4" applique pins into the corks through the cardboard, 2 to a cork, to hold them in place.  Smiley

This swap is all-inclusive for cloth pad/disposable pad, tampon/diva cup etc wearers.  I'll try to match like types up. The package you make should include:  stuff specific to your partner's "hygeine" preferences,  maybe a pad/tampon/cup carrying bag, and some kind of exciting surprise.  Cramp relief, treats for craves... be creative!  Maybe a cloth pad partner would like a new pad?  I'll try to include questions that make for good matches, but I encourage you to contact each other after you know who your partner is. This should be a flexible, interactive, tailored swap.

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Laptop Sleeve on: May 26, 2005 06:30:20 PM
Hopefully this is the right place to put this Smiley

My iBook needed something to keep it safe when I carry it around in my big tote bag or backpack.  I had some felt, and some sushi fabric...

so...  here it is next to my iBook (his name is stanley winesap):

closeup of the applique of my initial:

the shape is just basically a manilla envelope type deal, rendered in felt.  I just fold the end over.  Later, after finals and I get over my laziness, I will make a fastener, but folding has worked pretty well too, actually.  Smiley
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Menstrual care package swap? on: May 18, 2005 09:34:39 PM
So I was thinking something along the lines of a swap of little kits for moon week, including but not limited to:

a little bag to keep it in
cloth pads
cloth pad carry bag
d.i.y. cramp relief
some kind of cool little surprise?

I dunno.  this is a nebulous notion and i would love crafter-tastic input.

this isn't intended to be in competition with the very cool pad swap just a variation on a good theme.  I'd be willing to organize, if we're talking late june signups, mid-july sendout.

For my digi-cam.  Smiley

I kinda made it because it "needed" to be made, but then it turned out my camera fit perfectly.  Tongue

9  Illinois / Illinois: North / Japanese paper in Chicago on: May 11, 2005 02:28:48 PM
I just discovered something exciting yesterday in Chicago. Smiley  I'll have to stop back there and actually look around soon.   Grin

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Cloth Pad Cozy ;) on: May 09, 2005 11:22:04 PM
Just got my exciting new new moon pads and made myself a little pouch to carry a change in my schoolbag...

EDIT for more description:  It's basically a lined, zippered pouch, with decorative stitching.  And I added a tassel to the zipper.  Just though I'd add more detail to my description now that it's not as crazy late as it was when I first put this up (maybe I shouldn't have been watching Firefly on DVD as an excuse  to stay up and sew...).
