The new issue of Witch Weekly has hit the news stands! Be sure to pick up a copy and see which witch (or wizard) has been named Witch of the Week!

Oh wow! Thank you!

Amelia joined us at the mall where my youngest got to do American Ninja Warrior! It was just the coolest!
Then, today, she got to chill with me in the backyard while I crocheted.

Brief Description: These are definitely sandy in texture! They smell amazing and work very well in the bath!

Class/Challenge: Divination
SPEW:
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Butternut squash soup
Brief Description:
I use a knife to cut up all the vegetables in this soup! I do not follow a recipe for it - just make it how I think tastes good. I can give a sort of recipe for it though.
1 butternut squash
olive oil
2 onions
2Tbsp garlic
4 carrots
salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp old bay seasoning
1 tsp curry powder
about 6 cups water
6 tsp better than bullion seasoning
heavy cream

Cut of ends and scoop out guts of squash (save the seeds!). Roast in a pan with 1 cup water in oven at 400 degrees farenheight for about 45 min until soft. Let cool a bit and remove skin. Meanwhile, in a large pot, saut onions in olive oil till translucent. Add carrots and cook another few min. Add garlic and all seasoning but the better than bullion, blending well before adding water. Bring up to a boil and let simmer until carrots are soft. Add better than bullion and squash to mixture. Blend with immersion blender or in a food processor until smooth (or desired consistency). Add heavy cream to liking (I put about half a cup in the pot).

It is delicious and warming and goes deliciously with grilled cheese sandwiches!

Class/Challenge: Transfiguration
SPEW:
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Fresh lavender and Oatmeal Soap
Brief Description:
I made a new batch of delicious smelling lavender oatmeal soap! I followed Jan Berrys recipe from one of her books. Soap is definitely something soft and liquid that turns to a solid.

Class/Challenge: Hagrids Giant Pumpkins Challenge
SPEW:
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Large Jane Dress
Brief Description: One of my side jobs is making costumes for kids. Typically, I work in the age/size range of two year olds to eight year olds because I piece three different patterns together to make a costume and they only go up to a size 8. Well I had someone ask me to make one in a size 12/14. I had to find and adjust new pattern pieces and use extra yards of fabric that was an enormous undertaking! So glad I have a 12 year old kid to try it on and model it for me!

Class/Challenge: Halloween Challenge
SPEW:
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Wendy Costume Simplicity 1184
Brief Description:
I made my daughter a sweet Wendy Costume! It was made using a pattern by Simplicity ll84. Her first name (Maire) is also Wendys middle name (though probably spelled differently)! This also fits Slytherin Houses 6th prompt of costumes. Smiley

I thought I'd posted in the gallery but apparently I've just been posting in the thread!  Here is what we did the last few days.

We are preparing for our third power outage! Jeez! But in the mean time, Amelia got to join us picking pomegranates last weekend and apples today!

Amelia arrived yesterday! We ran some errands and then got to experience the joyful power outage most of California is involved in. Day two right now with no power. Also those moon pies were delicious and they are all gone! Lol

House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Strawberry Rhubarb Pie https://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/perfect-pie-crust-recipe/
http://www.bigoven.com/recipe/strawberryrhubarb-crumb-pie/503034
Brief Description: I love to make pie especially in the summertime. It did however, take a very long time to make the perfect crust! Something flaky and buttery and delicious. It took quite a few recipes to get it just right. And one of my husbands top 5 pies is strawberry rhubarb! Two notes on the links above: definitely add cornstarch to the pie mix itself or it will be soupy and nobody likes a soggy bottom. The other things is instead of mixing all the pie crust ingredients together by hand I just pulse them in my food processor. Works like a dream!!

Brief Description: I accidentally pulled Ursula out of the ocean! But thankfully only put her on a bag. I really need to work on my bubblehead charm

Class/Challenge: SoAR
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Mermaid soap dish
Brief Description: I havent worked with clay in over 15 years. My friend offered a trade of a clay class for a soap making class to which I though was totally worthwhile. I got to make this beautiful mermaid soap dish out of rough clay. It was fired and then I painted it and it became so smooth! I love the dark colors of the shell and seaweed and then the light of the mermaid and her hair!

Lemony made it home safe and sound! He arrived the day we left and so my house sitter brought in the box and he waited so patiently for us to get home.
Here is his lovely album with the Song of Hiawatha slipped into the cover. I don't know why but the cops and donuts pages are my fave! Lol and the deer poop one! Where we live the deer are a nuisance and poop all over my backyard.

And inside was this very beautiful card, a wooden nickel, some tattoos, and maps and little things on where Lemony has been

These delicious cream cookies! Maple! Why yes I at four right away.

He came home with two new friends!

And some lovely sea shells from lake Michigan and a sweet little stone wolf! Is he soapstone?

And lastly this really neat book about curiosities in Michigan that I'm really excited to read! We have family there so it would be neat to visit them and squeeze some of these things in.

Thank you so much for hosting Lemony! It looks like he had such a wonderful time!  The post office was closed when I got off of work yesterday so your package will be in the mail this morning. Thank you again!

We are still on our last vacation! Unfortunately we had a mishap but jellybean89 is incredibly gracious. We brought Pixel to Disneyland Paris with us and she decided to stay there. We were crushed. After two days of looking there was just no more time and she wanted to become a Pirate like Jack Sparrow. We were able to find a lovely sweet replacement though! Our little friend Figaro!
