also, we rent so we cant paint

my idea was to make it a sand/beach colour theme...teal,turquoiseand the sandy beige/goldish of the couches
but i am too afraid to add BRIGHT accents in those shades and the fabric i currently have matches but is still very pale
could i add bright decor in teal/turqouise andleavethe couches/cushions more subtle?

2  Am I crazy to even attempt reupholstering this? in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by somanyideas on: July 09, 2010 11:01:50 AM
hey everyone

I haven't been around in a while, but it seems every time I have a baby I just feel like crafting! So, I just had baby #4 a few weeks ago and am dying to get some things done around the house, and using up this creative energy.

SO, I've been wanting chocolate brown couches for a while now, hubby is opposed to buying a new set since we have excellent condition sofas we bought a few yrs back that he cannot let go of.. Anyway I have a chance to get these sofas but have no clue how to reupholster (I've only ever done a stool which did turn out awesome though) and I have no idea how much time it will take realistically.

I really want a chocolate brown and tiffany blue living room! And I can't wait to make matching cushions and find some thrift store wing back chairs to reupholster too.

What do you think?
crazy?

3  Gift for my friend-Spicy Chai flavoured turkish coffee recipe inside in Recipes and Cooking Tips by somanyideas on: December 23, 2007 09:40:47 AM
I made this up for my friend. She's big into coffee, hence the big mugs. There's 1 canister of the spicy chai coffee, another canister of mateccino tea (from Teaopia), and also a coffee-scented candle inside.  I should have taken a pic before I wrapped it but I forgot

The coffee is the one on the left:

Here's the recipe I used:
Spicy Chai Turkish Coffee
1/2 cup turkish coffee

3 crushed cinnamon sticks

12 crushed black peppercorns

5 crushed cloves

6 crushed cardamom seeds

1 teaspoon crushed cumin seeds

4 whole crushed allspice

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Add 1 tablespoon per cup of boiled water, let stand for 10 minutes strain and serve.

4  my first tea cozies-hope no one minds more! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by somanyideas on: December 23, 2007 08:10:58 AM
This is for my at least 4cup tea pot so that's why it's huge:

My strawberry tea cozy (my dd is *obsessed* with strawberries)

I lined these with thick fleece, they are indeed very cozy feeling.

6  Old Wood Rocking Chair Advice in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by somanyideas on: December 10, 2007 12:31:40 PM
Hi everyone
I bought an old rocking chair last week for $10 Smiley Very excited about it. It needs major sanding and since I LOVE cherry wood finish that's my plan.

But, I'm wondering what type of fabric you'd use colour wise and also what type? (links/spam welcome) ..also whether you'd make them box cushions or more like pillows, just 2 fabrics together stuffed with fibrefill

Here are the photos. Excuse the mess and ugly basement walls.

As you can see, it's quite boxy looking..I'd like to avoid the work but if it will look WAY better as box cushions I'll do it.

7  Fancy-ish gold brocade dress *redone and added action shots a couple posts down* in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by somanyideas on: December 10, 2007 05:49:52 AM
Still needs a belt but whipped this up yesterday. I've had this brocade for about 3 years and have been waiting for thhe 'right' project. This originally was for my 4yo but she's sooo skinny it fits my chubby 2yo better so I'll be starting the older one's dress tonight.
dd2 was loving the satin and the twirlyness .lol I added a cotton jersey lining cuz my babies cant stand 'itchy dresses'.
I'm proud of how well it's sewn b/c I've always had trouble with necklines/sleeves

note: there is no wonkiness in the 'skirt' like the photo suggests. I do plan on taking it off and redoing it though cuz the back hangs down a few cm more than the front.

with belt (I'm not the best photographer)
