21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Post Secret Swap Round 2! on: December 05, 2007 03:53:42 PM
I'm sorry, I haven't had a chance to post these recent arrivals!

After making all of my secrets I've decided that after sending them I'm going to show all of them (except this one) to my boyfriend.  I hope this will help him to understand me and our relationship better.  Besides you guys at Craftster, he will be the only one who knows most of the stuff I've written.  Wish me luck!

I'm completely terrified but I'm afraid if I don't tell him he will never know why I am the way I am...

GOOD LUCK, Secret Sender! Kiss  I love this card so much.  It amazes and awes me to think how much therapy has gone on in this gallery.

CUTE
Children make me want to Pinch their Cheeks!
Even though I know How much it hurts!

[Back says:]  This also applies to adults, regardless of sex, age, or current situation.

This cracked me up.  I actually caught myself PATTING A CHILD ON THE HEAD once and was horrified, so I understand the impulse.

And speaking of cute children...

When she was a newborn I'd poke her until she stirred to make sure she was still alive.

I don't think you are alone here.  I don't have any children myself, but I know the feeling and I know perfectly well that I would do this too; and I have very clear memories of when my niece was born--her mother wanted children desperately, and from various health problems was very unlikely to have any.  My niece was kind of a miracle baby, and it was a high-risk pregnancy with some complications both before and after the birth.  I've never seen anyone love a child more desperately or be more deep-down terrified that she might somehow be taken away.  You are definitely not the only person with this secret!

The only thing in my mailbox today:

'I'm Too Embarrassed by my thoughts and feelings to keep a diary'

I like this card so much!  Sender, whoever you are, thank you so much for sending me this.

And now, because it seems important to me to say:  I don't want to seem all evangelical about the virtues of diary-keeping (because I keep a diary myself), but I do think it can be very valuable.  If you DO want to keep a diary but feel uncomfortable, please realise that that's normal.  That's part of keeping a diary--it's a tool for growth, for learning about yourself and coming to terms with yourself, and part of that process is that you sometimes have bits you are embarrassed by or find painful or uncomfortable.  I've been keeping a journal for years and I still feel that way sometimes.  The best thing to do is just write it anyway, write fast so you can't censor yourself, and sometimes once you get it out it doesn't seem so bad--or sometimes it does, but it's more manageable--or sometimes it still seems mortifying, but it gives you a place to start.  There's a book called The New Diary by Tristine Rainer that might be useful to you, and I am only a PM away if you ever want to talk.  (That goes for all the rest of you swappers too. Wink )

And if you AREN'T really interested in keeping a diary and were just stating a fact, then please ignore the preceding paragraph. Cheesy Roll Eyes

There are about a billion secrets I'd like to comment on, but I'm going to have to go back through the thread again to do it.  For now, I'd just like to say--to the person who sent the 'I loves me some BEATLES' card--you are my new friend, whoever you are!  I am totally out of the loop with trendy music (or trendy anything, really), because I don't have TV and I can't pick up any radio stations where I live, but I have a permanent and very large place in my heart for the Beatles.  You're not alone!

Wow, there are tons I want to comment on, but no time right now.  This is a beautiful gallery; I'm so excited every time a new post is made!  Somebody said recently that this swap has meant a lot more to her than she expected, and I completely agree.  It's been that way for me too.  Thank you so much to the people who have commented on my cards; it means so much to me, and one or two of your comments have been so...perfect...that I'm seriously considering PMing you to talk about it. Wink

So, anyway, I got five more cards today!--and here they are:

'I know all the words.  AND the dance moves.'

I love this secret!  I haven't seen High School Musical, so I know neither the words nor the dance moves, but I DO know the words and dance moves to other things.  Awesome secret!

Above and below, it says:  'My mother wanted me to get the HPV vaccine.  She doesn't know I already have Human papillomavirus (HPV).'
In the middle, there's a Gardasil logo with 'TOO LATE' written above it.

Thank you for sharing this, secret Craftster.  I don't know what HPV type you have, but I hope you have great health now and in the future.

'I often think people are judging me when I eat, thinking "She shouldn't be eating THAT!" '

I think this too sometimes, actually.  I feel judged a lot in public, now that I think about it.

'i don't know WHY my secrets bother me so much...
when they're so small and insignificant.'

This is a small card, a little over 3" by 4.25".  I love the smallness and the delicacy and the simplicity of it.  I don't think that a problem IS insignificant if it sincerely bothers you, though; just because your secret might not be a big deal to someone else doesn't invalidate it for you.  And sometimes 'small' problems are the hardest to deal with.

At the top are cuttings from a receipt, and at the bottom is a cutting either from the receipt or a letter: 'Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your friend and companion.  All our cremations are done individually.'
The text says: 'I don't care if people think it's weird.  Cremating my pet was one of the most healing things I've ever done.'

The loss of a pet is horrible.  My heart goes out to you; I know how hard the death of a pet can be.  If cremating your pet helped you, that's all that matters, regardless of how other people feel about it.  Thank you for sending me this secret.

Ryoruki, I'm so sorry!

I got seven secrets yesterday, and then my internet connection went wonky and I couldn't post!  So I've read all the pages I missed yesterday but I don't have time to comment on everything; I'll try to do that at some point!  In the meantime, here are the secrets:

'When I was a little girl I used to make my Barbie & Ken have sex.'
I think everybody I know who played with Barbies did this. Cheesy

'i hate my best friend.  I want to bury him in the sand and wait for the tide to come in.'
I don't feel this way about my best friend, but I certainly have felt it about other people I am supposed to love.

'The 1st time I wear a pair of shoes I have to count the number of steps it takes to reach my destination.  The one time I forgot I broke my leg!  Now I'm scared not to.'
I used to have tons of things like that; you are not the only one!  But I'm really sorry you broke your leg.  NOTE:  This card didn't have a code on it, so sender, please contact an organizer!

'I'm terrified of DOGS...
ALL dogs
YES even your little dachshund..'
I used have a friend who was terrified of dogs.  He said he had a friend who had a little tiny dog that scared him to death.  He told funny stories about this itty bitty dog chasing him around the friend's living room, and he laughed himself, but as somebody (CrochetWitch?) said earlier, phobias are NEVER a laughing matter.  I used to know somebody who was completely, utterly, screamingly afraid of treefrogs.  It was incomprehensible to me, but it was a real fear to her, so I never made fun of her for it.  Don't let people make you feel bad because their bitsy doggie gives you the shivers!

'if anything happened to her i would kill myself'
I don't have a good response to this--not because I don't understand, but because I do.

'I want you so bad'
I can relate, anonymous Craftster.  (But ever since I got this secret, I've had the urge to go put on my Abbey Road CD. Cheesy )

'I STILL THINK ABOUT the $10 bill I didn't pick up.  That was four years ago.'
I don't think I've ever found a $10 bill, but I have a large repository in my head of random, sometimes petty, things I remember and think about and mull over.

So many secrets!  I can't remember them all to post, I'm going to miss a bunch of them.  It does seem as if there ought to be some better way to post them so that we could comment individually (I wish I could think of a good one!).

I love the crochet one that Haylie posted--'When I tell a guy that I crochet I gauge his reaction....'  I don't think I could be attracted to somebody who didn't take my crafting seriously, either.  (I don't really meet new people much, and those I do aren't potential dating material, so this doesn't actually come up in my day-to-day life.  But in theory, I completely agree with you! Wink )

Also...what else?  Aaugh, can't remember.  The new makeup one, I feel you there.  And 'I...wonder what it must be like to be beautiful'--I certainly have spent my share of time having that thought.

By the way, before I forget entirely, whoever posted the picture of herself, you are INCREDIBLE.  That is so brave--not because there's anything wrong with the way you look, but because it takes a lot of courage to put your vulnerability on display.  And you are beautiful; don't let anybody tell you different, not even you yourself.  I love you for posting that secret, whoever you are.

I would also like to say a huge THANK YOU! to the person who sent the time-telling secret, and to all of you who have posted to say you have similar problems.  I always buy digital watches for this very reason; I know how to tell time on a regular clock, but I have some sort of weird dyslexia-like thing that happens, where sometimes--no matter how carefully I look at the numbers and the hands--I simply cannot come up with the right time.  It's like the numbers change when I'm not looking.  It only happens with ordinary clocks, not with math or phone numbers or digital clocks.  I'm the only person I know who has real problems with clocks and I thought it was just me!  Every time I buy a watch I skulk around to the digitals feeling ashamed, but now I won't feel as bad knowing that there are other people out there who have problems with non-digital clocks.  Good secret! Kiss

I know I missed, like, a dozen secrets in my commenting.  Please don't feel they weren't important!  But you guys, I love this gallery--I had the most horrible, depressing, awful, disheartening day today, and coming here are reading all the new secrets and seeing how supportive and caring everybody's been--it's improved my day immensely.  Thanks, everyone. Smiley

We need a 'group hug' smiley.

I got another card today! I really like this one. Thanks for sharing!

[Somethings are secrets not because I wont tell but because the person doesn't listen.]

Boy, can I relate!  There are a lot of things in my life that are 'secrets' because either the person concerned doesn't want to hear it or because nobody cares enough to listen.  Thank you, person who made that card!

I got another card today too:

The front says: 'I believe in love at first sight.'

The back says: 'I'd rather be naive than cynical.'

To whoever made this card, I love your card but even more I love what you wrote on the back.  I've been cynical and I've been not-cynical, and I'm a lot happier and I like the person I am a lot more when I'm not cynical.  I hope you are and do too.  (Please excuse my poorly structured sentences.)

I got my first card today!

'I amazed that my dad is still alive.'

Thank you, whoever sent that.  I don't know what your situation is, but I've felt that way too.
28  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Postsecret rd 2 SIGNUPS CLOSED! on: November 26, 2007 02:46:27 PM
No, I started doing that too.  I'd think some random thing ('I need to do laundry'--'I'd like a cup of tea right now'--'Where's my coat?'--or whatever), and I'd catch myself mentally making it into a postcard in 'secret' form.
29  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Postsecret rd 2 SIGNUPS CLOSED! on: November 26, 2007 02:09:05 PM
Done and sent...
It was harder to let them go than I had thought it would be, so I hope everyone enjoys them (and I hope the postal service is kind to them).

I second that (all of it)!

I probably could have done all 20 cards just on my family issues....

Eek, yeah, tell me about it!  To whoever sent that card, you are not alone.

Also, I love love the 'I Feel So Liberated' card.  (And, for that matter, pretty much all the cards so far. Cheesy )

My mail doesn't come till afternoon, and I'm dying for it to get here so I can see if I have any cards!
