We're all about Shark Week here this week...

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Summer Nerd Games 2017: June 1 - August 31, 2017 ~*Join Anytime!*~ on: July 19, 2017 06:03:08 PM
Hey, look, it's not the last day of the month and I'm posting something!  If I can type it, I'm working on a project for hubby/the gaming group that is KILLING my hand.  It certainly won't be done today...

All the rest I have are from Lifebook 2013 - I'm a little behind on my art lessons, I know...

Prompt: June #1 - Swamp of Undrying Glue
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: Community
Project Name: Stained Glass Art
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=452794.0
Brief Description: This required so much waiting (and took so much time!).  Coat one side of the paper, let it dry.  Coat the other side, let it dry.  Paint it, let it dry.  Cut it out, glue it down, let it dry.  Coat it again, let it dry... for as many hours as it took to make, it took equally long just waiting around.

Prompt: June #4 - Valley of the Nearly Royal Personage
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Flower painting
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I altered the lesson to make the flower less three-dimensional, so it would fit in the book, but it's definitely a flower.  I don't particularly like it, but it's a lesson I can check off now (and not the worst thing I've made for LB, so...)
Project Photo:

Prompt: June #5 - Scrap Mountain
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Collage Woman #1
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: One of the reasons I dislike collage is that I don't like keeping all the little scraps of interesting paper that make it look good.  Also, I hate gluing things down.  LB has a lot of collages, though, so I have saved up a few weird scraps that I finally put to use.
Project Photo:

Prompt: July Battle - FIGHT!
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Heart Painting
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: What is more courageous than heart?  This one turned out okay, but I originally used a stencil for the heart and later decided it wasn't cute and chubby enough, and no amount of gesso would keep those blasted watercolor markers from floating up to the top.  Argh!
Project Photo:

Prompt: July #2 - Wing Buffet
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Bird Painting
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: This lesson was two paintings, but I did them smaller and side-by-side on one sheet.  One is a bird!  Flying!  For the record, nope, don't like this painting at all.  But hey, I'm learning and trying new styles/techniques, right?
Project Photo:

Prompt: July #4 - Claws
Team: Clan of Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Collage Woman #2
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Yay, more collage!  I do like the way ripped edges glue down better, so I never cut when I have to do collage lessons.  Ripping all the way!  (And yes, the two women are the same silhouette, because one lesson provided the stencil and the other didn't, and I just used the same one for both - one lesson was a collage woman, cut out and glued to the background, the other was a collage on paper with the silhouette painted around it).

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Stained Glass Rose Painting on: July 19, 2017 05:39:06 PM
So... this is a Lifebook 2013 lesson... yeah... I'm a little behind.  Id' put off doing this one because I knew how much work it was going to be.  I thought I knew, but it took far, far, far longer than even I thought.  I hated every minute of it, and was determined to hate the finished product... but I don't, really.  It's a cool look, but I'm not sure I'm patient enough to ever do it again.

You basically coat two sides of tissue paper with glossy Mod Podge, then paint one side.  THEN you meticulously cut out each piece to fit into the area of your drawing, gluing each of them down.  THEN you paint around the edges and line in between the pieces in black.  I lost track of the number of hours I spent on this, but it took about four days of working on it every day for a few hours each.

The pieces are a bit sticky, and coating the top after you finish gluing it down with more glossy Mod Podge makes it that much more glassy looking!

Now I just have to finish LB 2013 (I think I have 25 lessons left?) and do pretty much all of LB 2014, 2015, and 2016...  D:

Any new info on this? I'm still getting them and have mostly given up browsing Craftster unless I can sit down at my computer at home (thank you adblock, which I don't feel guilty about using here because I do pay to get rid of ads), otherwise the pages take absolute ages to load and I just get frustrated. :/

Work has been super-busy and we haven't done much of anything new, though we did go donate blood!

Hopefully it will also stop feeling like a sauna and we'll be able to go out and do things - I don't even want to walk from my car to a shop right now!

Ahhhh! At least have to get the battle in today if I want to CRAFT ALL THE THINGS!  Cheesy

Prompt:  June Battle - Old Crone
Team: Clan of the Makers
Bonus Points: N/A
Project Name: Cigarette Girl Costume
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: My friends are very active in the CAF (Commemorative Air Force), in fact, he's probably going to be Wing Leader (President) next year.  Of the many events they do, they have a 50s Hangar Dance and they decided that having a "Cigarette Girl" Sell the raffle tickets and other bits and bobs would be cool.  I do hot have a picture of me and the tray, this is me with my Little Visitor, but I offered tickets, fans (it was hot!) cards, candy cigarettes, and free sprays of glitter dust.  I made the skirt and the hat, a circle skirt and a cardboard-based hat, two things I have done TONS of times.  I'm pretty sure, after all the bellydance costumes, I could craft a circle skirt in my sleep.  And the Steampunk costumes gave me so much experience in mini-hats!

Also, the necklace was from smashu in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween swap!  Cheesy

Prompt:  June - Fiber Foothills
Team: Clan of the Makers
Bonus Points: WIP It
Project Name: Hearts knitted dishcloth
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Made of yarn, this was put on hold months and months ago.  I did have to buy another skein of pink Sugar and Cream to finish it (*sigh*) but as it was a gift to a dear, heart-loving friend, I guess that's okay!

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: City Watch (Discworld) Cross Stitch (with pattern) on: June 21, 2017 04:46:51 PM
Thanks for all the kind works!  I'm not nearly the needleworker that a lot of you are, but I was fairly happy with this piece. Cheesy

Smmarrt, it's pseudo-Latin, kinda meant to imply "Make My Day, Punk".  But in reality it's gibberish. Cheesy
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / City Watch (Discworld) Cross Stitch (with pattern) on: June 20, 2017 05:44:45 PM
Made for roler in the Nerd Games swap, it's a mash-up of the Discworld City Watch logo and illuminated manuscripts, very very VERY heavily borrowed from this piece I found on the internet.  I would have loved to reproduce it a little more faithfully, because it is awesome, but I am a slow cross-stitcher so I had to make it a wee bit smaller...

And should you want to make one, here is the pattern I mostly* used...

*I have a complete inability to do things correctly or to pattern, and I tried to go back and make the changes but might have missed some!
9  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: ** Report Questionable Ads Here ** on: June 19, 2017 03:40:03 PM
If I switch to IE on my computer they show up, Firefox's Ad Blocker is keeping them off my main browser (I rarely rarely rarely use IE).  It's showing the main ad to be google ad service, and I'm not seeing it on anything else I browse on my phone where I don't expect it, so I'm going to guess it's Craftster-specific. Sad

But the bummer is not only the time but the data it's taking up to load on my phone...

Screenshot I took on my phone just now, not only am I (think) a fanatic fan of Craftster, and should be ad-free, but what an odd placement...

Edited to add: then when reviewing this post, it put an ad under this picture!
