1  Dog Hair Yarn in Spinning: Completed Projects by Smeddley on: May 16, 2017 05:10:17 PM
It's a rather blah color, but it is so so so soft!

I was tired of my dog not pulling her weight around here.  Sure, she's cute, but does she really think she's going to coast by on her looks?  She also requires a lot of attention and brushing, so I figured, hey, why not?  Lots of other people do it, and it's completely FREE material to practice on!

I actually made a drop spindle out of a dowel, a toy wheel, and a cup hook.

After about six months of brushing (discarding it when she was particularly full of burrs) I had a decent amount of single ply...

I wound it into a center-pull ball, then pulled from the inside and outside at the same time to ply...

And then I rolled it into a ball.  A soft, soft, soft ball.

It's not very much, and I have no idea what I will do with it, but I'm getting plenty of practice with my spindle!

I have a code.  My nose is so stuffy...  but before this calamity befell me, me had some adventures!

Trip to IKEA!

Open hangar day at the Commemorative Air Force

Spinning class!

Hopefully this won't last long, or all I'll have next week is watching movies and vegging on the couch pics!

Argh, this is why I don't do things on my phone...

Added some things to my "free with any claim" section.

Copper wire, reclaimed from wiring. 6 pieces of approximately 12" wiring (each piece is a twist of even smaller wires). Shown braided just to keep it neat.

Moroccan Stars instruction book with templates, someone gave this to me, it's complete and in decent shape.

Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  Swaptastic
Project Name: Apron #2

Brief Description: "I think one of the terrible things today is that people have this deathly fear of food: fear of eggs, say, or fear of butter. Most doctors feel that you can have a little bit of everything." - Julia Childs
I love cooking, especially baking, and BUTTER.  Anyone who champions butter and loving good food is a hero in my eyes! Also, made for my STS Shop!

Prompt:  March - Mockingbird
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  Swaptastic, WIP It
Project Name: Knitted Heart
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: Have a heart!  Kindness, knittified!  This was a UFO lounging around until I "sold" it in my STS shop, forcing me to finally finish it.

Prompt:  April - Quote 4
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  Swaptastic
Project Name: Wonky Eyed BunBun
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana
Bunny on the far right, you'd think I would have learned to triple-check the eye position before securing safety eyes, but I still messed up.  He's for my STS shop, but I don't know if he'll get "Adopted".  I may have to attempt eye surgery on him, and this time LEARN from my mistake!

Prompt:  April - Quote 1
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  Swaptastic
Project Name: BunBun
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: "I'm nutty bunny number two. I love me and I love you." -Mark McKinney
Middle bunny from previous picture (bunny #2 from either direction!).  Also note, the bunny on the left was a previous bunny, and yes, there was also a previous blue bunbun that I sent to my LV swap partner last round, these blue ones are two new bunbuns!  I adore this pattern and am trying to use up yarn scraps!

Prompt:  April - Quote 2
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  N/A
Project Name: Cupcake bag
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: When you're in a Slump, you're not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!
My lovely friend was kind enough to let me come over to her house to sew the aprons (because my dog hates my sewing machine) and she looooooved the cupcake fabric combo and the other hobo bag I'd made.  So I had to try to cobble together enough scraps to make her a thank-you gift, a bag of her own!  It's odd and patchworky, but she said she loved it!

Prompt:  April - Quote 5
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points:  N/A
Project Name: Apron #1
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: "I watch cooking change the cook, just as it transforms the food." -Laura Esquivel

We haven't done anything too exciting yet, we did participate in "walk at work" day, for lunch we went to a local park and walked around the paths...

And last night I tried to ease Lola into bad movies with some wine...

I want it to be observational, because if it's inspirational, that means it's not what *is*, it's what's you strive for, and I think it would be sad to think of a heartless home.

Actually made progress on my research project today! I made my DIY survey equipment, and I laid down a grid in the back and side yards (seriously underestimated the flagging tape I needed, had to sacrifice some yarn for the cause!), and we got our readings!  Step two will be to actually turn the readings into something meaningful, then plan out the work.
