I literally squealed when I opened the box from LovelyMiss. Then I almost went home to tear open the box I'd packed for her to see if I could stuff my entire craft room into it... Cheesy because this is AWESOME.

Don't worry, I didn't let her chew on it, she's just there for scale (and adorableness).  She's a 60 lb pooch! That die is huuuuuuge!!!

And if that wasn't enough (and it so was!) she included a chapstick holder (with lip balm!) and an amazing notebook cover!!!!  I use composition books all the time and the fabric is amazing!

Thank you, LovelyMiss, I hope you like your package one millionth as much as I liked mine! Cheesy

I dragged out my Research project, and since I had started attaching the squares together, I thought I'd made all the squares I needed.  I was wrong, so wrong:

It takes about 30 minutes to attach each row of squares.  I hope the lines of crocheting in the other direction go faster, since the squares are already in place, but I'm not holding my breath.  This is certainly an epic project, and I am so through with granny squares!

Prompt: March Sewing
Team: Textbook
Bonus Points: Swaptastic!
Project Name: DPN holders
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made these to sell in my Shop the Swap shop - there are some left, though a few sold, and I will be offering them in the fall swap, as well!  Hint hint, plug plug!  They are different from the style I've made before, and it was only the third time I'd used my snap thingee.  Cheesy

Prompt: April Battle: team!

Project Name: Puking Unicorn Art
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: One of the things that drives me to make projects and finish things is that I'm in this with a team, and while I'm not very competitive, I don't want to let them down.  My non-finished, non-submitted essay had this to say about it:

"I, Smeddley, am an unmotivated person.  Lazy does not even *begin* to cover it.  Think sloth, then magnify it exponentially.  I have craft projects that have languished for - and I hate to admit this, but - decades.  Yes, plural.  New things are bright and shiny and fun and almost finished things are boring and bland and set aside.  And this is sad and makes for a very cluttered craft room!

And while I am also not a competitive person (I can play any game you'd like without keeping score, I really can!), I have a very strong sense of not letting a friend/team down.  And that's where the Nerd Games come in.  Because I'm not just doing this for me, or my house, I'm doing it for (swelling inspirational music) THE TEAM.

I'm also an engineer, so the sense of order and completeness of DOING ALL THE PROMPTS appeals to me.  I (if you haven't seen my goal books and don't know) love having goals and benchmarks to reach.  It's the only thing that keeps me from just coming home from work and melding with my chair and playing six straight hours of Candy Crush Soda Saga (level 1975).

So thank you, Nerd Games, for not letting me become furniture."

And so, I pushed myself to work on Lifebook 2013 lesson for both the sense of completion and for points for my team, even though I hated the lesson and had to seriously, SERIOUSLY twist it to make something I didn't hate.

Bonus Points: Community
Project Name: Lifebook lesson - grungy art
Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=454832.0
Brief Description: There's more about how this piece evolved and came to be in the community post, but the trope it hits is boobs in horror movies.  In the Twitter horror movie group I partake in, there's usually at least one tweet for every "gratuitous boobs, drink!" moment.

Brief Description: Another Lifebook lesson I seriously twisted to make it work, but I think it's very me and it was actually a lot of fun!

Project Name: Lifebook lesson - pastels
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: Yet another Lifebook lesson I seriously twisted to make it work - it was supposed to be collaged strips of painted paper, but I used soft pastels to make it look similar to the lesson piece.

6  Lifebook 2013 Lessons! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Smeddley on: April 28, 2018 12:03:24 PM
I'd gotten to the point where there were lessons I just didn't want to do.  Art is so subjective, and there are just some things I'm not hugely fond of.  I'm also not great at expressing my inner most feelings artistically... well...  that's not entirely true.

There was one lesson that was a cut and paste collage that included a drawn-on rainbow kind of thing, so I decided to do the "lesson" by using a rainbow to sum up my feelings about it...

Then I decided to tackle two others... and a big problem for me, being a rather cheap person, was the thought of using expensive supplies to make something I didn't think I'd like.  But then, I found this in my attic:

And I decided to tackle two lessons I'd been dreading.  The first was a grunge-style modern art lesson, with a messy background that you "pick" a drawing out of.

I started with a lot lot lot of scribbling with the super-cheap pencils:

And then I added some marker and collage and it eventually led to this:

... and I texted it to my friend with the picture of the lesson artwork ...

And her first reaction was, "but yours doesn't have a boob!"
And I replied, "goodness, and there's even the suggestion of a nipple!  Do I need to fix that?"
To which she replied, "absolutely."

And so...

Lesson done!  Check!

The other one I did with the cheap art supplies was supposed to be inked pieces of paper with deep thoughts written on them collaged to the background piece.  I went with swear words in crayon and marker.  I think it really shows my personality, and isn't that what art is all about?

I know Dani likes Lego, she comes from a Lego-crazy house!  Darth was not as fond of our choice of Lego set...

Full disclosure: I did not put that thing together.  Darth and I lent some moral support from time to time, but my husband spent the better part of four days assembling it.  Now I have no idea what to do with it...

Besides the crushing disappointment of the rebels ruling the house, Darth has enjoyed book club (where there are cookies, totes dark side), D&D game nights (where there are also cookies!), a few get-togethers (you guessed it, cookies!) and Walk at Work day (only one cookie in the boxed lunch).

I came to show off the lovely fiber leapfeetfirst made me, but my camera is horrible ... probably because the lighting has been so bad.  I promise you it's far, far, far more vibrant and pretty in real life.  I also didn't want to take it fully out of the bad, because it would reach maximum fluffocity, and I'm not ready to spin it yet and I want to be able to store it!  So, LFF, if you have a better picture, please share!  I will definitely make a post when I turn it into yarn.  I really, really, really need to get spinning, but I'm kinda scared because it's been a while since I took the class and I'm afraid I will mess it up (though I have a ton of plain white fibers to test spin).  I also want to finish a few other big projects before I get stuck in, as I think it might become all-consuming!

Sadly, didn't do too much our first week, work was super-hectic and there wan't much going on, but things are picking up.  I haven't downloaded this week's pictures yet, but here's Darth enjoying the dog park in balmy 77*F weather, then playing in the snow 2 days later.  Gotta love the Midwest!
