1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Photographing Baiscally Flat Item: Lightbox? on: August 23, 2012 09:36:44 AM
So I sell potholders on my etsy site:

I am not sure how to get the best pictures of them though.  Should I use a lightbox for basically flat items?  Any other ideas?  I'm worried the photos I have aren't terribly dynamic.

Thanks so much for all your help!
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Uses for Cigar Boxes...For a Man? on: November 04, 2011 01:53:11 PM
My father-in-law enjoys cigars and I was hoping to make him something out of a cigar box for the holidays.  Any ideas?  I keep seeing storage boxes and purses, but obviously want something more manly for him.  Thanks for any ideas!
3  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 65 ENTRIES / Ransom note purse on: August 06, 2011 06:41:54 PM
So this is my ransom note purse, it's all upcycled t-shirts and cotton for the lining.  I cut out the letters from various t-shirts and stitched them to the pink background.  Then I made little mask out of a black t-shirt and put it on the back pocket.  Since, if I were passing our ransom notes so much I needed a bag for them, I don't think I'd want people knowing who I was...
The lining is cotton with a newspaper print of old news stories such as man walking on the moon and Nixon resigning on it.

The handle is made of braided t-shirt strips.

The blue is an extra pocket outside.

The pink inside the purse is a sleeve of a t-shirt that I made into a smaller pocket inside.

As you can tell, Hawaii has just become the 50th US state!
4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Dr House and Dr Cuddy Costumes Easy Last Minute on: September 08, 2010 09:49:48 PM
Heres some pictures of my fiance and I last year at halloween.  we were dr house and dr cuddy from the tv show house md.  It was a pretty easy costume, i dressed in business clothes with a low cut top, carried a clip board and had a stethoscope.  Dr house dressed in jeans, a rock tee, and a blazer and carried an old pill bottle (thoroughly washed) with tic tacs and a cane.  I did wear a wig, but that's bc i am a blonde...you could also temp dye your hair if wanted.  we did splurge on nicely done nametags from someone on ebay who did movie/tv replicas (splurge means like $3 each), but you could do just plain nametags with the names or even make your own with printed out pics of the actors.  they are a nice keepsake though bc it was our first halloween engaged!

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Scrap Rag Purse on: September 08, 2010 06:10:09 AM
Heres a purse i made from scraps of cotton i had laying around.  I know it's not exactly recycled, but they were pretty much trash before i figured out this to do with them.  I just wove them loosely on a loom and sewed it together with a muslin lining.  The stitching is kind of rough to stick with the aesthetic of the whole purse.  the handles are just braids of the same materials.
