11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: An Unclaimed Baby Quilt on: October 10, 2012 01:19:36 PM
I love the rickrack addition. The hand quilting is amazing; really a beautiful quilt!
12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: First attempt at piecing / quilting for reals on: October 10, 2012 01:18:14 PM
very nice! I have only tried piecing a couple of times on one tiny square, I'm kind of scared of doing a whole quilt.

I, too, was scared of doing an entire quilt. However, I must say, it was actually a lot of fun! I think quilting is something like childbirth; while you're doing- especially the first time- you think to yourself: "WHY THE HELL DO PEOPLE DO THIS?!!?!?" Once it is over you think to yourself: "That wasn't so bad... I could do that again."  Grin

Me too; I have a ton of stuff to destash. Maybe it's time for another givers/needers swap...
15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Wallet from Leather Pants- upcycled, recycled, bicycled... not really. on: October 10, 2012 05:04:41 AM
So, I purchased a pair of leather pants from a thrift store and made an attempt at sewing my first semi-substantive leather project.

So... here are the original pants (I have lots of leather left  Wink)

Inside the wallet

After the fact I learned that there is such a thing as a teflon foot for working with leather! I ordered one post haste and will be giving the whole project another attempt with the foot.

Many lessons learned but still pleased with the wallet.

I've made a number of patchwork baby blankets but have never actually "pieced" a quilt. But then, I saw this quilt and fell in love (with the colors and the beautiful simplicity of it). So, I made my own pattern pieces and here is my attempt:

I know I have a long way to go but I was just too excited not to share. WOOT!
18  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bigger on the inside- Tardis Needle Cases on: September 09, 2012 04:28:17 PM

The pattern for these is just a very simple zippered pouch. I carved the image out of speedy carve and used VersaCraft for the fabric ink.

I'm loving printing my own fabric at present and have high hopes for more Dr. Who related knitting notions and cases.

Thanks for looking!  Grin
