11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Travel Embroidery Case with Link to Tutorial. on: May 20, 2011 01:30:34 PM
This might be a little naughty - it is a completed project, heavily related to needlework, but it's not actual needlework, if you feel it's bending the rules too far kittykill I'm happy to remove/move it.

As part of the Star Wars OTT Swap I recently sent this out:

I liked it so much I made one for myself!!

It is, of course, a circular travel embroidery hoop case, with pocket and built in needlebook for supplies. I've roadtested it and it's really handy for taking to any public place and getting your stitch on, I <3 it!!

I've posted more about it, including a tutorial over at my blog

I thought it was going to be really difficult to make something circular, but it really wasn't that hard  Cheesy Cheesy

anyhow, hope you like it!

13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Whole Lotta Baby - 2 T-shirts into Maternity Dress on: May 02, 2011 03:32:44 PM
so yeh - I'm 28 weeks pregnant and running out of clothes.... time to do the ONLY sane thing... make a dress out of 2 t-shirts and have an impromptu photoshoot (whereby I accost some poor guy who has been playing for hours on bank holiday Monday and somehow end up posing with his guitar Roll Eyes )

and in the err... better (but much less fun) lighting of my front room...

I've done a tutorial over on my blog

it's pretty simple.... I  love it!!
OH! and I've included instructions on my blog for how to make it a non-maternity dress too! haha. For all you non-pregnant people out there.

14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / it's the DEATHSTAR!! on: March 30, 2011 09:30:09 AM

I guess it's still a work in progress,

I stitched it up a while ago... but I've still not done anything with it....

one idea I had was to hoop it up, and do 2 matcing ones, one with the not equals symbol (the one that's like an = sign but has a line through it) and one simple moon

(because you know... that aint no moon.... )

but I'm still dothering...
any ideas?

15  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Tasha The Bearded Lady on: March 26, 2011 03:21:22 PM
This is yet another one from the Embroidery Hoopla round 4 (Diptich) swap

More pics and the patterns I used are avaliable on my blog. Pretty much everything I used there is backstitch,  apart from the french knot beard (which I love!) everything's 2 strands of floss and it was all stitched on an old bedsheet which I teastained after stitching to add a bit more of an aged effect.

Grin Grin Grin I love this, was very sad to send it away!

The whole story, more pictures and a list of things that I've changed n'stuff are all detailed over at the blog but essentially it's just a mixture of plastic fusing (which Kittykill did an awesome video tutorial for) and basic bag-making (a good tote bag tutorial is here , see here for making a simple lined zip pouch)

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Maternity Pencil Skirt on: March 13, 2011 09:18:55 AM
Over at my blog] at the moment I’m in the middle of a bit of a crusade which I’m calling Project Maternity.

Same old story boy meets girl, girl gets pregnant, girl almost kills herself when she sees what passes as maternity wear, girl realises that maternity alterations aren’t brain surgery, girl sets herself almost insurmountable task of making/thrifting/upcycling her way through her pregnancy…. anyhow this is a modification on a Burdastyle magazine pattern from January 2011 the pattern is also now avaliable online.

EDIT----- Here's me in skirt

I’ve recently bought an overlocker which was a great help with working with the stretch jersey that I’ve substituted in instead of the interfaced yoke/waistband fabric… I also redrafted the waistline to give me more … err.. coverage… as bump gets bigger…

You're not getting the full  effect here becuase my dressform isn't pregnant, but my dressform is happy to be photographed without make-up, and I'm damned if I'm putting make-up on on a Sunday afternoon... I'll try and upload some real life pictures when I wear this sucker.

The fabric is Micheal Miller Quilting fabric... it was expensive but just look at it!! it's the colour of joy....

The back seam is a flat felled seam, hem is straight stitch, pretty much everything else is serged except for the topstitching on the yoke which is zig-zag on my regular machine.

I've had my serger for 9 days and I think I'm in love.

19  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Only Alien At School on: March 01, 2011 11:38:15 AM

For the Quentin Tarnatino/Robert Rodriguez swap I stitched this up for Ralph. I fashioned it into a patch so she could sew it onto whatever she wanted.

Its pretty tiny... everything's 2 strands of floss, the main skin of the alien is applique, the outline is backstitch, everything else is satin stitch... I've never really seriously attempted satin stitch before and it was quite nervewracking to be honest, I pretty much learned how to do satin stitch while doing this piece, starting with really dodgy technique, making stupid mistakes (I changed the direction of the thread on the 'I' ... WHY?!?!) but I came to the realisation in the end that the outline does a hella lotta work tidying it all up... <3 you outline...

here's the lowdown on what I sent an what I received in total. She made me some awesome jewellery, baby onesies and coasters :-).The whole gallery is here

I've also made the pattern available for free on my blog.. why not?  Kiss

20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How many garments in a 'wardrobe'... how many colours? on: February 24, 2011 09:39:09 AM
Cheesy Cheesy I can almost hear back the answer already... "as many as you want?"

Basically I've set myself a challenge over on my blog to sew myself up a spring/summer maternity wardrobe. As were the countless of crafty women before me, I am increasingly annoyed at the price/lazy design of the maternity clothes I've seen in shops... (etc etc etc blah blah anyhow)

I just thought I'd put this question out there -
how may garments would you class as a 'wardrobe'?
I'm probably not going to do any trousers.... I'm' kinda thinking 4 tops, 2 skirts, 2 day dresses and one really nice 'going out' dress..... Maybe a cardigan... I think I've got a jacket I can get away with using... I'll probably have to do something to some shoes...

how many colours would you limit yourself to in a wardrobe
clearly the smaller the colour spectrum the more likely everything is to 'go together' but I don't know... 3 colours? 4?

I'm really interested in hearing people's thoughts on this.
