1  French knot Velociraptor! in Needlework: Completed Projects by DesignerFake on: May 03, 2011 02:18:19 PM
Jurassic Park was my absolute favourite childhood film! When faced with the huge number of Bank Holidays we just had I decided to pay tribute to the second-best dinosaur in the film (#1 T-Rex) with a new hoop. I'm not the world's neatest satin-stitcher so thought I would try out french knots for a change. I quite liked the scaley effect it gave, although I did not fully anticipate the huge number of knots needed!

Anyway, to cut to the chase, here she is...

2  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R4, Diptych Round - Gallery (SendOut 3/21/11) in The Swap Gallery by DesignerFake on: March 16, 2011 03:01:27 PM

Because of you guys this is how I spent my afternoon...

Sorry for going a little off-topic but it's nice to find some fellow Chivers lurking on here! And Deathtolems, I still have your hoop from the last swap hung on my wall - it's so pretty Smiley

Back on topic! The new hoops are awesome on so many different levels - I love the different ways that people have interpreted the diptych theme and linked their hoops, the Bioshock hoops are particularly brilliant!

I received my hoops from Sparrowarms yesterday Smiley

They are rather perfect as I am a little bit of a geek (ahem). I also have lots of love for Richard Ayoade and his NHS specs in the IT Crowd so they are already making me smile! They're hanging on my bedroom wall and bringing in a bit of much-needed colour to the beginnings of my rather spartan hoop wall Smiley

4  The Boosh is loose in Needlework: Completed Projects by DesignerFake on: February 20, 2011 01:07:47 PM

I love all of the doodle-style artwork on the cover of the Mighty Boosh dvds and in their book so had a go at translating some of it into embroidery. I did think about colouring it in and showing Ol' Greg and Tony Harrison in their multi-colour glory but I'm not sure if I've got the patience at the moment.

Most of it is straight-forward back stitch with a little chain stitch and the occasional (untidy) french knot. I'm happy-ish with most of it but the text is a little bit too wonky at the top. My favourite bit to do was obviously Vince's awesome hair Wink

5  Cutesy Stormtrooper in Needlework: Completed Projects by DesignerFake on: February 03, 2011 02:38:39 PM
Somehow I made it to age 24 without ever seeing one of the original Star Wars films. My sister's boyfriend introduced me to the films and the rest, as they say, is history.

I started this pretty much as soon as I got home after seeing the film and instead of waiting to buy some plain white cotton I just grabbed the nearest light-coloured fabric, I'm embracing the pink now, though Smiley Unfortunately it's a bit see-through but it looks better against the white walls

6  Needlework Portrait in Needlework: Completed Projects by DesignerFake on: December 25, 2010 05:31:37 PM
I finished this hoop today...

In the picture I based it on they are snuggled up underneath a big fluffy blanket so I tried to replicate it by sewing a fluffy wool onto the fabric. I also tried using wax crayons to colour after seeing the information at the top of the board for the first time.

I can't decide whether I'm happy with it or whether it looks like one of the portraits from badtattoos.com but I'm going to show it to my sister (and the kids' mum) tomorrow so she can decide!

And I got mine from DeathtoLems! It's absolutely perfect - I love corsets and I am in awe of the text and its neatness, especially when using metallics!  Grin

I absolutely love the tiny gold cogs sewn onto the hair and necklace

It's going straight up on my wall

8  Playing with Coptic binding and different covers in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by DesignerFake on: August 26, 2010 12:34:03 PM
I recently learnt how to bind books from a youtube video using the coptic binding, since then I've been playing with different kinds of covers and these are the results!

I think I like the magazine covers best because they are so easy to do and the covers are perfectly designed to deal with everything that a book has to deal with.
