2  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Jason's Scarf on: March 29, 2010 07:52:24 AM
Awhile back I made a scarf for my dear friend Jason. He is an amazing guy and I wanted to make something for him so I decided on a hand woven scarf.

I chose several natural coloured alpaca fleeces and scoured the fiber. I cleaned and carded the fleeces then spun them up by colour. I spun fiber up to about a worsted weight 2-ply yarn, maybe a little under worsted, then wove it on my Ashford rigid heddle loom

5 alpaca fleeces handspun in their natural colours woven into a lovely plaid.

I'm so pleased with how it turned out!

3  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Carding up a storm! on: March 29, 2010 07:09:50 AM

4 ounces of domestic wool

Mint Julep
3.10 oz of Merino/Baby Alpaca
I loooove this one!! Reminds me of mint juleps on a summer day.

Mermaid Kisses
2.2 oz of hand dyed corriedale

Spring Chicken
2 oz of hand dyed corriedale

Garden Summer Salad
3.5 ox Merino / Baby Alpaca
One of my favorites of the bunch. SOOOOOOO Soft!!!!

Wine & Lace
3.7 oz of Superfine Merino and Baby Alpaca
Luxurious, soft, and smooooth as butter

Cloud Nine
4.2 oz hand dyed merino

4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday - June 19th 2009 on: June 19, 2009 07:20:03 AM
Hello Babies!!

Happy Fiber Friday!!

I haven't been spinning as much as I'd like to lately. I've got a number of excuses in my back pocket ready to go, my numero uno excuse is that I live in south Texas and it's waaaay too hot to function right now. Summer is going to be a tough one!

I've been trying to perfect my techniques with making consistent 'proper yarn' as I call it. They take ages, yo!

Here's my work so far:

New Day
207 yards of corriedale wool
Hand dyed by Amy King from my Spunky Fiber Club subscription. It's like christmas every month when I get this stuff in the mail!

Soul Windows
corriedale wool and nylon
I do not like this photo at all, I will have to redo it and check back with ya'll later. I do however love the yarn! This photo really doesn't do it justice. It's my first really 'proper' three-ply and it's so even (for me) it makes me giggle. I keep thinking "oh hey! I made that!"

I don't think I can knit these just yet, I love looking at them too much, so I hung them on my wall Smiley

Happy Fiber Friday ya'll!

With love from Texas,
xoxo Talia

5  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Dye Hard - With A Vengeance on: May 06, 2009 05:50:58 AM
Now I should have posted this some time ago but I just hadn't gotten around to it until now. Tongue Lazy I guess.

Here is the results of my dye'ing day a couple weeks back!

All the fiber is from the Sheep Shed Studio and hand dyed by me!

6  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday!! 3-20-09 on: March 20, 2009 07:34:28 AM
Happy Fiber Friday!!!!!!! Let me kick this off!!

It has been a busy week! Here's what I've been up to:

Baby Bird
73 yds
Hand dyed by me
Superwash Merino

This stuff is disgustingly soft! This is the second softest skein I've ever spun out before. Second only to the skein I spun out of pure silk. The softness of this one almost doesn't make sense! I just want to roll around it in and giggle!! ... I mean uh... look over there!!!

232 yds
Merino, Silk, Bamboo, Firestar, Angelina

I got this loooovely fiber at a local fiber festival a few months back! The Kid n Ewe Fiber Festival. I look forward to this festival every year! I'm lucky to have it so close by. The colour of these singles was somewhat hard to photograph, simply because it's so sparkly. It tricks the camera!

Merino + Tussah
I forgot to measure the yardage. Doh!!

This is my favorite colour this week. This colour is absolutely decadent! The merino and tussah make a luxurious blend in these soft fluffy spun singles. I don't know if I'll keep this one for myself or sell it off. Hmm.

123 yards
4 oz.
100% hand painted Romney from Spunky Eclectic fiber club - August 2008 installment

I love working with Romney but I never know what to do with the yarn. This was a dream to spin!! It practically spun itself. Left to myself I would not have chosen the colours, but they ended up spinning up nicely. I started it on my spindle and then transfered it to the wheel when I was reminded how much I don't love spindle spinning.

Bieow Bieow is pleased!

7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Soaps Soaps Soaps! on: January 09, 2009 05:22:47 PM
I've been on a soap making rampage. Unfortunately, I haven't pictures of all the different types of soaps I've made, but I have been playing with a lightbox and different lighting to showcase some of my soaps! Heres a few I've got to show!

Lemon Sugar and Sweetgrass
This is actually my favourite scent. I have one bar left (out of 14) and I'm dying to make another batch!! This one everyone snatches up as fast as I can make it!
This one is very bubbly and perfectly moisturizing, not drying at all! Divine.

Pink Grapefruit
I'm a huuuuuuuge citrus fan. This smells _exactly_ like a fresh ripe grapefruit. You can even smell hints of the rind! Anchored with patchouli. It's amazing, but I realize only a handful of people are keen to the idea of the smell of grapefruit. I love it!!
This is more moisturizing than my normal recipe. It's very nice with small creamy bubbles.

Dolce and Gabanna's Light Blue
Peppermint + Vanilla (no artificial colour added! Yum! This scent is SO refreshing)
Lemon Sugar and Sweetgrass
Pink Grapefruit

8  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Just bought a loom!! on: September 18, 2008 06:13:20 AM
I finally did it! I bought myself an Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom

 60cm - 24 inch
7.5dpi - (30/10cm) reed
12.5 dpi (50/10) reed
2 shuttles
warping peg
2 threading hooks

It should be here by next wednesday. I can't wait for it to get here and play and start using up my vast amount of yarns I have saved up!

9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / First CP Soaps! on: July 22, 2008 08:17:24 AM
I finally made the plunge and decided to add yet another hobby to my list. Home made soaping. My house is full of ridiculous supplies and now smells of soap!

First batch!!

Sweet Peppermint + Lime
2 lb. batch
Ingredients: Olive oil, water, coconut oil, lard, lye, fragrance, love

It smells heavenly, and strong, but not overpowering. The lather bubbles are small but cleans very well. The soap is mild and cooling from the peppermint EO.

My Second batch is my favorite of the two as far as the lather goes.

Honeysuckle + Vanilla
2 lb. batch
Ingredients: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, canola oil, water, lye, fragrance, happiness

It smells almost like a warm sugared vanilla with a sweet gentle floral note. The lather is incredible and the scent is soft after the wash. I love this soap!
10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / me too me too! on: May 21, 2008 01:31:42 PM
With all this talk about raw fleeces I can't stand it any longer! I want one.

Does anyone know where I could potentially purchase a raw fleece?
