1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / What to do with this owl thing? on: January 29, 2012 05:34:53 PM
So I went through my grandma's jewelry box and I found this owl pendant thing. Its head is attached to the body by jump rings, and its tail and the stick it's perching on used to be the same way, but it broke. So I'm letting E-6000 do it's magic while I try to figure out what to do with the center. I assume it used to have a piece of turquoise inside if cuz that's what's in the eye sockets. But I can't find that and now I wanna make it into a necklace but can't find anything to put in it's belly. Any suggestions? Sorry for the long ramble..

I would say they're like 2mm thickness, they'd make awesome bracelets, but I can't get my needle to go through easily :c

I'm using an leather upholstery needle if that helps. Should I be using a thinner needle? I was worried it would snap while I was working which is why I picked a bigger gauge.

What would you do with a 5lb bag of leather strips? They're fairly stiff so I don't think I could braid them. Does anyone have some way to get the leather to soften? I was thinking soaking them in super hot water...or would that ruin them? :/
6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Polyester embroidery thread on: December 30, 2011 02:30:27 PM
Heeelllo So I have a question regarding Polyester embroidery thread, I bought a bunch of spools in neon colors because for one: they're neon, and two: the spool has 1100 yards on it.
The thread is a bit thinner than regular coats and clarks all purpose thread I know but does anyone else use it for stitching? I'm planning on making seams with it, but also using my serger - just incase.

1100 yards of thread for like 2.50 (joanns sale) is very very hard to pass up, so yay or nay on using it for sewing

It has been foreverrr since I posted, I've been on a hiatus, but I have a question that you folks may be able to answer.

I want to make suspenders to complete some of my outfits, but I want to use polyester gross grain. Anyways, I wanna use it because mainly because they tend to have a lot of interesting designs, some have Disney characters, Hello Kitty, etc on them. Now I know suspenders are made of elastic but since they really won't be used to keep my pants up, why does it matter if it stretches or not? Don't suspenders usually have adjustable d-rings anyways?

Pretty spiffy looking for suspenders if you ask me.

Thanks in advance <3
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / What's wrong with my Asiatic lily? on: May 18, 2011 05:54:00 PM
Ok so I bought an Asiatic Lily on clearance, 2 of the flowers were almost ready to bloom, but the other 3 were still buds(?) Anyways, I take it home and the first flower blooms the next day, and the other one bloomed yesterday..but the other 3 buds haven't done anything. Here's a picture..

The leaves are also turning yellow at the bottom of the stem. And I am keeping it waterd, but not drowning it either..

Don't give up!!! I feel EXACTLY the way you do and stuff of mine was going into the garbage until recently, if you do decide to throw something away- don't!! selvage the fabric for future use, like patchwork or practice with all the scraps you got.
