1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Lycra Spandex??? on: May 24, 2010 05:17:03 PM
Hi all,

I'm looking to make some coloured stockings (for Roller Derby) and i need yellow and black stripes. As such, i was planning on using lycra spandex, cutting them into strips, then sewing the strips together- one after another for the stripes, and then footing them off.

I'm pretty confident in HOW to make them... but i have never sewed lycra spandex before.

Being pressed for time as nationals are in 3 weeks.... and i'm a bit cash poor (i have the materials already) i was wondering.... I only hvae a standard sewing needle- the one that came with the machine (cringe).

I stumbled across somethign somewhere (probably on another project on Craftster) that said when sewing Lycra Spandex, you need to use a ball point needle to avoid rips in the fabric.

I really need to make a start, but don't want to bother cutting all the fabrics up if it means they will all fall apart after wearing them for 15mins....

I'm making a whole bunch of them, for the other girls too, so don't wanna screw it up.

Any ideas ladies and gents?  Huh
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / My 2008-2009 Costume Collection!!! IMAGE FATTY!!!! on: May 13, 2010 10:20:05 PM
Hi all,

I'm pretty new to posting, but thought i'd pop a few pics up of my previous creations!  (Sorry I don't know how to re-size!!!)

Lala Orange of Rainbow Brite (80's cartoon) for my friends birthday party 2009. Theme was "cartoons you grew up on" and i won best (female) costume!!! I even found a "Sprite" so had my little companion with me!! (anyone who remembers Rainbow Brite will understand the epic-ness of this!!!) All done by HAND.... Yuk! This one was by FAR the most labour intensive....

Suicide Victim- Halloween 2009 (the noose was SOOO fun to make... the tutu....not so much fun)

Living Dead Doll- Halloween 2008, and one of Theodore (Ted) Who is actually a bag i made & painted Smiley
Excuse what looks lke jaundice in the above pic.... i'd just had my wisdom teeth pulled!!

I don't have pics of these ones, but i've also made a ringmaster jacket, and scrubs.... but yes... i'll remember to take pics next time.

All the ones i've put pics up of... I did by hand as i didn't have a sewing machine... but now that I do, there is LOTS more to come!!!! Smiley

Questions and Comments MORE than welcome!!!
