11  WInter Holiday Card Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by rosyposie on: November 01, 2011 08:59:49 PM

Is anyone interested in participating in a holiday card swap?  it could be either one card to exchange with another or if you want a bit bigger of a swap we could do a set of holiday cards for the receiver to send out to friends and family.

We could even do an option in the questionnaire for either one or a set of cards?

I thought this would be a nice small swap that people could slip in before getting wrapped up in the holiday crafty season but could also help in getting one more thing crafted for holiday time.

I could organize...and if there is enough interest I would like to start sign ups as soon as possible so that we can get crafting sooner.

What do you think?

12  Re: Givers and needers R10 (signups till Sept 30 Givers: Oct 25, Needers: Nov 10) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by rosyposie on: September 30, 2011 07:24:33 AM
I am really excited for partners. but take your time, I know how difficult it can be to pair up people especially in something so complex with givers and needers and some people that are both.  I am just excited to make a thank you gift and put some really nice supply packages together.

MoonlitSun, I thought of you a couple evenings ago because you mentioned your love for all things sky and the Northern Lights appeared here! It has truly been 5 years since I last saw them this far south and they were beautiful! I was shivering on my lawn in the middle of the night watching! Soo worth it.

Am afraid i dunno what the Northern Lights are. Is it some sort of comet??
Here in Mauritius, the sky is always clear and filled with stars!
I remember once my sis, cousin, etc, we used google maps on his iphone and identified Mars and some other planets, you won't believe how tiny it looks, i nearly thought it was a normal star (well, it was faintly red and everything) it was so gorgeous!

Partners will be coming quick, unfortunately for me, no one offered polyclay (something i've been dying to have but which had to be unavailable in my country) Oh well, found another perfect partner for me so i won''t bother about it. Some partners are already confirmed but i'll wait till i can send everyone at a go Wink

On a side note, MoonlitSun the northern lights also known as Aurora Borealis look like this:

and are found in high latitudes like Sweden Northern Canada, Alaska and Russia and are a result of charged particles crashing into atoms at high altitudes.  They are super cool if you ever get a chance to see them.

I feel terrible that I haven't posted pictures until now.  I received an amazing Package 3 from aheartofglass:

First, a gorgeous plate that at first glance just looks dark blue with lovely transparent blue like and little dichroic pink squares, but the moment the light hits it, it explodes with gold and purple shimmer-y ness.  Also, I don't know if it was on purpose or just a side effect of how to make the design but I really like the  bubbles around each little pink square that are so even on each one.

And, as if that weren't enough, she also sent me two dinosaur trivets/coasters/glass squares to do whatever with:

Aren't they cool?!  I love dinosaurs and she hand painted them into? on? the glass!

Thank you so much aheartofglass this was a great package and a fun swap!  Again sorry for the delay of picture posting.

So I received a fantastic package from sloth003 and it was all in one piece.

Onto the Pictures!

I started with the card as instructed and then promptly ignored the list of items (I didn't want to ruin the surprise of opening each group).

The items were all wrapped in these fun materials which will come in handy in future crafting projects.

Theme 1: 6 smalls: Decorate Yourself

A sun-dyed scarf, a headband that she dyed using the rust from an old chisel, earrings from a dragon boat festival, a rock necklace (found and tumbled by her son), a hand stamped sloth pendant, and a bunch of flower hair clips, also some temporary tattoos and some super long glow in the dark nails;  I have already worn a bunch of these things and I can't wait to wear the others, they really filled in some holes in my accessory wardrobe.  I think the rock pendant might be my favorite though.

Theme 2: 1 large and 1 small: Art Nouveau

A beautiful Chrysler Building stained glass window panel (she made it herself!) and a lovely art nouveau floral hoopla on some awesome plaid material.  Look how nicely the hoop fits in on my "small framed things wall":

Theme 3: 1 medium, 3 smalls: Woodland Creatures

A reversible tie bag, bookcover, the best wristlet, wallet, tea wallet, notebook with fabric cover and zip pouch.  I have already started using these things and I absolutely love them I feel so much more organized with everything.  They all have woodland creature fabrics, I particularly like the yellow hedgehog fabric for the zip pouch.

Theme 4: 1 Large, 1 small: Natural History

An awe inspiring cabinet of curiosities quilt.  There are so many awesome fabrics and I love the scrappy nature of the strips; sometimes it really transforms the material (like the wolf fabric) In each of the central whitish blocks are different book plates that she had printed from a Book of Natural Oddities from the 1700's.  She also gave me the extra plates to utilize in other projects. Also, it is backed in my favorite color, I can't believe you found this material.  Needless to say, the quilt is awesome and it has already found a home on my couch.

Accompanied by a dinosaur mug rug.  I love the colors on the pieced side and the dinosaur fabric is adorable.

Theme 5: 2 Mediums: Knitting Notions

Two sets of hand dyed yarns (one with Kool Aid by her son!) and the most useful and attractive yarn bowl so that my yarn doesn't go gallivanting around the house while I am trying to knit it up (note the stylized slot on the side for the yarn to feed through). SO awesome and already being utilized.

Some extra tasty treats:

Thank you Sloth003 everything is super awesome and I feel like you knew me well with your choice of materials, colors and items made.  I hope you like your package as much as I've enjoyed mine.

Package 2
Utilizing her "best craft" she created a Hankie Skirt for me from this amazing fabric!!!!  (I don't have a full length mirror and no one was around to photograph me in it when I tried it on but it fits beautifully!

Thanks again Rosy! I love love love everything especially that skirt!!!

You're welcome!  I had a great time making everything.  I would love to see an action pic of the skirt...I am too short so it looked rather absurd on me.

And I am really excited to use my mystery tool tomorrow during my crafty time, especially now that it is not such a mystery.

Package 2 from aheartofglass

I feel like such a truant person, receiving this lovely package and then not posting pics for days.  So here we go:

First items to add to stash!  A bunch of fat quarters in greens and pink prints.  Can't wait to wash em up and start using them!

A super thorough wire wrap jewelry making kit including lots of pliers Grin wire, a disc with tutorials, some pendants to practice on and this thing!:

I have no idea what it is, but I am sure it is useful, maybe I will understand after I start learning...

Also, for extras:

the most adorable little monster paperclips/bookmarks!  Which is great because I bookmark a lot and hate using things like receipts and trash to mark my place.
Also, a pincushion that is not a tomato! and is also super large so I will be able to fit many a pin in an organized fashion.  A book, a favorite series of my partners, can't wait to read it!  And while the card is hard to see under the sharpie it is a "winter rose" which I thought was lovely since I am Rose and regular roses seem a bit obvious.

Anyways,  thank you so much aheartofglass I can't wait to use some of these materials!

Sorry for the delay.  I have been busy.  Also, I have been watching a lot of The Wire lately and so as I was taking these pictures all I could think was "we want to see dope on the table"  Anyways...here is my great package from AlmostDawn:

First a group shot:

I really appreciate the angel package, you did a great job.

My favorite item "something bumpy" a headband with beautiful feathers (because headbands make two bumps when you wear them!)  it is absolutely perfect, I wore it to work the very same day.

Some awesome fun extra buttons from her button jar

something tiny? Some bobbins, I can never have enough bobbins.

"something with the letter M" maybe? for melting? I haven't done iron on beads since I was little but I absolutely loved them and it's a dinosaur!!

some yummy gummy treats, and a book that has been passed through all her friends and on to me.  I have seen this at the bookstore a few times and it hasn't made it into my basket so I am glad to finally read it.

"something green" Some lovely material with dandelions on it.

"something vintage" some vintage quilt squares from the same stash she sent out to pinkleo

Also in the package, the rest of my images were lost somehow, was a mini four leaf clover plant "something lucky", and a buttercup pattern purse as "sender's choice" in the most adorable yellow material.  And everything was wrapped in some fun tiny floral prints.

Thanks so much Almost Dawn!  It was an amazing package, more than I hoped for, and nice to see how awesome some people are!  Also, I love your interpretation of the categories.  And did I mention I love my headband, not only was it talk of the day at work, it is also super comfy and stayed on for my entire bike commute.

19  Re: Embroidery Hoopla Rnd 5 - Color Spectrum Gallery!! (Send 6/6/11) in The Swap Gallery by rosyposie on: June 10, 2011 05:43:06 AM
Oh man so back to back posts...I am having such a productive morning.  Anyways...

May I present, the most amazing hoop ever and the first one for my wall!

The stitches are so tiny and even and the cracked earth fabric so perfect, I love the contrast of the dark brown hoop.

Thank you so much paper rose...you have inspired me to completely redo my crafty room when I get home from summer.

I may have to get a private swap together for more cracked earth fabric or embroidery goodness.

Thanks again!

P.S. I like that the color scheme matches my avatar picture.

So yesterday I went to the post early on my way to work and found my package from aheartofglass waiting for me.  I couldn't open it at work but I did take a peek inside and all I thought was "wow this smells great"

12 hours later I finally unwrapped the contents and here is what I found:

A great assortment of things representing aheartofglass including:
~geodes (which I loved to break open as a kid too!)
~wild horses note card (her favorite animal)
~dice shaped lollipop and casino cards (edible and local to her region)
~a sandalwood candle (which is one of my favorite scents too! Although Yankee Candle where I work in the winter only produces it in limited edition now)
~A Moody Blues CD
~some more note cards with Lake Tahoe and some beautiful flower watercolors printed on them
~Guatemalan worry dolls which are super cute (I have always been fascinated by superstition, I'll have to try these out)
~Pier 1 Paper Soaps (to always keep in the purse, which is great because I hate those really harsh medicinal soaps at rest stops and we are always on the road)
~Awesome tea flowers that bloom as they steep so its a show in your drink how cool!
~a snoopy bookmark for her non craft hobby (and she didn't know this but as a kid I had a cat named snoopy!)
~A beautifully altered journal that shows a bit of her personal style and to keep me organized for crafting and life, which I am sure will come in handy
~A cat notepad
~A Nevada shaped soap which seems to be the culprit in the box smelling so good
and finally, A beautiful glass rocking horse ornament that she made! for the favorite holiday

Thanks so much aheartofglass!  I can't wait for you to receive mine.
