11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / "A Jumper for the Well-Dressed Woman" on: February 19, 2005 07:06:39 PM
I have a book of unaltered vintage knitting patterns from the 20s-40s and just started working on the following sweater:

I'm really excited to be working on this, seeing as it took me ages to find the right yarn. Vintage patterns tend to have very small gauges (7 to 8 stitches per inch is the norm!), and for whatever reason, it was hard for me to find affordable fingering-weight yarn that came in a broad range of colors (I finally settled on Cervinia Amalfi from Smiley's yarns).

Anyone else working on a vintage sweater at the moment? I'd love to meet other people who are interested in recreating older styles.

Also: If anyone wants the pattern for the sweater above, I'd be happy to post it. The book that I got it from has been out of print for 20 years, and the pattern itself is over 70 years old, so I don't think there would be any copyright issues.
12  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Good beginning projects on: February 05, 2005 05:17:40 PM
Hello! I'm new to Craftster and to the art of crochet. I just learned to crochet last weekend and completed my first crocheted scarf today. What should my next project be? I was thinking of making a crocheted cloche, but I'm wondering if the crocheting in the round would be too difficult.
