421  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Baby/Child Swap (no actual kid swappin!) (SIGNUP 5/13-6/01; MAIL BY 6/30) on: May 13, 2005 08:55:32 PM
I am really excited about this theme...I hope I can meet the criteria to be a swapper before the sign up cut-off!

My nephew would go NUTS over that mailbox. When he & his mom came to visit us for a week, the only thing he wanted to do was watch Blue's Clues. I swear I had the theme song stuck in my head for the rest of the month!!

Great job!

I want to make a lot of packages for people, and I completely adore your idea and the finished products. You could sell these packages, Hot Topic wishes it could have minds like yours.

Thanks PixieSkull! My friend said the same thing...I am hopefully going to be participating in my first "arts market" (read: craft sale) in July...maybe I should put together a couple of packages and see what happens... Wink
424  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / "Cracks" in transfer on: May 13, 2005 05:05:09 PM
Hi everyone,

I recently used some Avery ink jet transfer paper to customize some onesies (100% cotton) for my daughter. I followed the instructions on the package (iron on the hottest setting for specific amount of time yadda yadda...) and when I peeled the paper backing off, the transfer looked great.

The problem: Once I put the shirt on my daughter, the transfer seemed to "crack" where the fabric had stretched across her chest. Does anyone know why this might have happened and how I could prevent it from happening again (longer time under the iron or something else perhaps??)? Thanks!

Thanks for the great feedback, everyone! I took the gift over to my friend's apartment last night and she was suitably impressed. I'm really happy it turned out to be such a hit! Who knew that homemaking (?) and bondage went together so well?!!  Wink

Here is one that I made for my daugher:

Thanks for the compliments!

I found the photos online and printed them onto the Avery t-shirt transfer paper.
428  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / "Garden Goddess" housewarming gift on: May 07, 2005 12:13:03 PM
One of my girlfriends just bought her first house. As a housewarming gift, I got a big planter and filled it up with garden-specific stuff (bulbs, tools, work gloves, watering can, etc)...I also made her a garden apron/tool belt. I used a cute twill print with some heavy cotton canvas - I'm pretty impressed with the result!!

What do you think? Comments appreciated!

Here are some pics of a gift basket I put together for a friend who has just moved into her own place. I wanted it to have a retro girly feel without being too nice (hence the Bettie Page bondage theme) - I bought 4 martini glasses, a set of three black silicone spatulas, photo coasters (into which I put bondage pics) and I made some cloth napkins (black and white with an iron on Bettie in the corner) and a reversible half-apron (using a modified version of april_cocair's circle skirt tutorial :https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=b51c7a0ff1038eefe6ff4fe3d4fd2850&topic=12439). I put everything together in a teal waste basket.

What do you think? Comments very much appreciated!!

430  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Diaper bag/baby item swap? on: May 05, 2005 02:11:40 AM
I would definitely be interested...although how "baby" are we talking? My daughter is 15 months old - more toddler than baby now, I guess. I love to make stuff for her and my nephew (18 mos) and I am sure it would be fun to come up with something crafty for another little one!

(Assuming I meet the swap requirements by then...I've been around for a few months but lurk more than I post. Embarrassed )
