11  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Christmas Reindeer on: December 14, 2010 05:37:24 PM
Look who stopped by a little early this year. A reindeer! He's made from a pattern kit that my mom bought when she went to a Mary Maxims in Ontario. When she got back home she chucked it at me told me to make it for her  Roll Eyes

He took me a long time, and he's probably the biggest amigurumi that I've ever made. He sits at about 12 inches (from top of head, not the antlers). I think he turned out really cute even with me getting lazy and only making 6 lights instead of twelve for the lights wrapped around him. Let me know what you think  Smiley
12  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / first polymer clay things on: August 17, 2010 02:45:29 PM
These are the first things I have made with clay. I'm not very good, I can't draw at all and I think that is sorta related to clay skills  Tongue

first up is a siamese cat I made. I modeled it after my own siamese cat.

Here is a lemon that will at some point probably be made into a keychain. He obviously tasted himself because he has a sour face  Grin

Both are covered with an old water based varnish that my dad had kicking around. I like the shininess  Cheesy

Let me know what you think, go easy on me I'm not very good at polymer clay... I can't make canes at all!
13  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Snake? Snake!? Snaaaaaaaaaaaake!! on: July 06, 2010 05:54:27 PM

Here is snake, from the metal gear series. I made him for my brother this past christmas. I made him up completely on my own, he was my first major original creation. I googled a nice big picture of snake and then went to work. His hair is fun fur, that went through a haircut and I even added a few pouch like places for him to keep those rocket launchers and huge machine guns in  Wink I should have taken a picture of the back of his head cause I made sure he had his mullet which of course made my brother laugh  Grin Decided to add the stubble beard too which I think makes him look tougher  Tongue

and of course Snake wouldn't be Snake if he didn't so some sneakin'!!

Here he is going through the "jungle" ala metal gear 3 Watch out for crocodiles! (I didn't have the heart to tell him that he wasn't in the jungle but in fact crawling in my mom's ugly house plant vine thing  Cheesy )

and here he is peeking around a corner in some base.

and here he is hiding under something probably because some guards are looking for him after he got !'d  Grin (and yes !'d is totally a word now) He's probably wishing he had a box to hide in instead since it's pretty dusty under there.

Let me know what you think!  Smiley

14  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / yarn recommendations for a summer hat and other clothing? on: June 12, 2010 01:25:45 PM

I would really like to make a summer style hat. I was wondering what type of cotton, cotton blend yarns would work well to make a hat. There are no cotton yarns around here except for bernat handycrafter so I would need to order from the online stores I know of. Since I won't be able to see/touch the yarn before I buy it I could really use some knowledgable recommendations so that I don't waste my time and money on a yarn that seems good from the description but ends up being heavy/dull/stretching alot.

Any recommendation for good yarns to make clothing like shrugs/shawls/boleros would be appreciated too. I hate living in a small Canadian town sometimes  Embarrassed
15  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Need ideas for huge amount of DK wool/mohair blend yarn I just recieved on: June 05, 2010 02:31:45 PM
Today I just got a huge amount (like 20+ 50g skeins) of an off-white new wool/mohair blend at 80/20 percent respectively. It's DK weight so I was wondering if anyone knew of any insteresting patterns to try with a weight like this. I'm not looking for an afghan or anything but with so much yarn I can make bigger things. Any and all ideas/patterns are super appreciated. I was thinking about attempting to felt it but maybe the mohair would get in the way?
16  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Cardinals around here? Only crocheted ones! on: June 04, 2010 11:33:33 AM
This is a little cardinal that I made using a basic pattern online and then adding the crest and black face. The face is made of felt. I made him for my grandmother. She really likes cardinals. So he now sits on her walker and travels everywhere with her  Smiley

he likes pretending he is in the tropics  Grin

A side view so you can see the crest better. He has a tail too but you can't see it in this shot. Please ignore the dirty plate in the background  Tongue
17  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / A crochet Collie! (Pattern to come soon!) on: May 22, 2010 06:43:48 PM
Here is the crocheted collie dog I made for my Aunt. She told me that the ears were perfect collie ears  Grin (she breeds and shows them) so I think that is a good complement. My mom says that she put him on her dinning room table.  Smiley I wrote down the pattern as I was making him so once I clean it up I will post it here for everyone!

I'm not the biggest fan of how the tail turned out but I ran out of time to play with it (I gave it to my mom to give it to her when she flew out for a visit). The muzzle kinda looks funny from this angle. It looks fatter in real life, and perfect from a head on view.
18  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / creeped out by Premo's super long bake time on: May 18, 2010 03:20:00 PM
I looked at the baking instructions for Premo and it's double the baking time of Sculpey and Micheals cheap brand. It kinda scares me that it will burn or something since it bakes at the same temperature but for 30 minutes per 1/4 inch instead of 15. It also seems to stain my hands the color of the clay (my hands were super pink with the red) as opposed to when I used the cheap Michaels brand which didn't stain at all. Just wondering if the staining is normal in clays and the cheap brand is just super cheap and doesn't.
19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A model of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings on: May 03, 2010 05:28:50 AM
Here is my huge model of Helm's Deep that a made several years ago for the artistic part of my English class book reading assignment. I choose the Lord of the Rings novels and made this huge model.

The model is plaster that I painted overtop a foam insulation base. I have the tower (not right shape on top I realized later) and All the people are made of plasticine and have spears/bows/swords made from toothpicks. I have all the main characters on the inner circle stairs (legolas, aragorn, gimli, the king, it's hard to see from this photo. Each one is made from plasticine as are all the soldiers on the outer and inner wall and the side wall. Brown are people, green are elves and black are orks. The doors to the inner caves are also painted onto the backwall of the model (black). Made a few scaling ladders out of little wood pieces and I even have the turtle formation of orks heading towards the main doors. The runner with the burning torch heading for the sewage drain (which I also added) is also in the model but you can't see it from this picture. I think the second scaling ladder is in the way. He's made a plasticine too with a little wood torch painted orange on top to be like fire.  Smiley

This took me forever to make. I remember watching the battle part of the movie and freezing during good full frame shots to make sketches of the fortress. Just for your future reference cutting that stirofoam insulation (that people put in bewteen the walls of their house, usually blue or pink) with a bread knife really sucks and takes forever.  I would put more pictures up but it has long ago been disposed of because it's so huge and my family was moving. It takes two people to carry because it is so bulky. It is sitting on a baby grand piano if you want an estimate of scale  Tongue At the time I wasn't into crafting as much and only took one picture to remember it with. (I think there are a few non digital photos of it somewhere though..) But I thought it was cool enough to post on here despite me making this about 5 years ago. Lemme know what you all think! Grin
20  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Kirby! Right back at ya!? on: April 29, 2010 08:07:16 AM

Here is my Kirby that I decided to make on my own one day. His eyes/cheeks/mouth are made of felt. I could probably tell you how I made him if anyone is interested. I'm noticing alot of my projects have a video game theme...

He's clearly so happy in this picture because today is grocery day.
