1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Needlework shops... on: July 01, 2013 01:19:46 PM
I'm 'splorin'! I just found this old article on Etsy by Jenny Hart, and got to wondering. How many of y'all hang out in your local needlework shop, petting and exploring new thread options, learning new techniques and just exploring the history of the craft? I did, until my local shop closed. And now I'm limited to needlepoint (the other one was mostly cross stitch... so I taught them as much as they taught me!)

Anyway, fascinating article, and I really am curious. How many of you even HAVE a local shop nearby any more? Do you shop there? If not, why not? If you do, what do you like about it?

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Needlework Retreats and Festivals... on: January 28, 2012 03:17:48 PM
Do any of you attend a regularly held public needlework retreat or festival?  In other words, not your local sit and stitch or stitch night, but a day or two long event that's dedicated to stitching, talking about stitching, maybe shopping and hanging out with people of like minds?

If the answer is yes, would you mind sharing contact information, location, and days held with me? I'm trying to compile a list (that I'll share) mostly so I can pick and choose and make a point of traveling where I can extend into stitching with new friends! Smiley
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / What things do you stitch on? on: November 17, 2010 03:15:12 PM
I was recently reading a post on another forum on what to do with finished items, and I started thinking.... I've been reading Victorian books and magazines lately, and started wondering when we started thinking that all our stitching needed to go on the wall? I came up with this short list of things I've stitched on or finished my stitching into:

duvet covers
shower curtains (in progress!)
bellydance costumes
clothing, including jeans, aprons, shirts, hats, bandannas, sweaters....
Glasses cases

What about you? Anything you have or would be willing to stitch on that you haven't thought about recently? Or that you have? I only have so much wall space for framed pictures. So I try to think outside the box as much as possible. My inquiring mind wants to know!
