21  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / my first altered pony....meet my little tauntaun!!! on: May 30, 2011 11:02:46 AM
i was in the one tiny str wars thing swap, and my partner prettyrustyrobot mentioned that she liked tauntauns...WEIRD...so do i!!!  i did a little research, and didn't find many toys, so i looked at my daughter's old my little ponies and thought, "wow...that kinda looks like a tauntaun"...thus, he was born....

on to the progress shots!!!

i did A LOT of sculpting with the feet and arms

COUNTLESS hours of mod-podging little tufts of hair all over his body...

it was really hard to let this one go, considering that i am a HUGE star wars nerd, AND it was my first altered pony ever...i think he has an awesome home now, though...so i feel a bit better.

as always, thanks for looking!!! Grin

28  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / yes...another Gir ami...NOW WITH PATTERN on: November 28, 2010 05:30:51 PM
So I quit crocheting for a while, and just stuck to sewing.  Then I decided to crochet a Gir for my daughter who is OBSESSED with Invader Zim right now.  He was SUPPOSED to be an Xmas present, but she busted me making it.  I am regretting not writing the pattern down, as I think he come out pretty decent!!!!

Thanks for looking!!!

I used Caron Simply Soft in Limelight, Black and White.
Black embroidery floss
Scraps of red and gray felt
6 mm safety eyes, or black beads
Stitch marker

Using an E hook

Using lime green, make 2...
These will be the front and back panels of the head.

Row 1: ch 14, sc in 2nd chain from hook, and each ch across, ch 1 and turn (13)
Rows 2-9: sc in each sc across, ch 1 and turn (13)
Row 10: 12 sc across, 3 sc in last sc (15)-1st corner made
continue working around the rectangle.
Side: sc 7, 3 sc in last sc-2nd corner made
Bottom: sc 11, 3 sc in last sc-3rd corner made
Side: sc 7, 3 sc in last sc-4th corner made, sl st in next sc and tie off.

Made in one piece, using light green...

Row 1: ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and each ch across, ch 1 and turn (7)
Rows 2-10: sc in each sc across, chain 1 and turn (7)
Row 11: in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1 and turn (7)
Rows 12-22: sc in each sc across, chain 1 and turn (7)
Row 23: in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1 and turn (7)
Rows 24-32: sc in each sc across, chain 1 and turn (7)
Row 33: in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1 and turn (7)
Rows 34-44: sc in each sc across and tie off (7)

Now, if you fold up the sides, you'll see it form a pretty sharp box shape, forming corners where you did the sc in back loops only.  Sew the front panel to the side piece, do the same for the back, stuffing firmly as you go.  HEAD COMPLETED!!!!

Using lime green, work in a spiralstuff the body as you work...

Round 1: sc 6 in ring
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Round 3: [*sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc], repeat from * around (18)
Round 4: in back loops only, sc around (18)
Rounds 5 and 6: sc in each sc around (18)
Round 7: [*sc in first 4 sc, dec], repeat from * around (15)
Round 8: sc in each sc around (15)
Round 9:[*sc in first 3 sc, dec], repeat from * around (12)
Round 10: sc in each sc around (12)
Round 11:[*sc in first 2 sc, dec], repeat from * around (9)
Round 12: sc in each sc around (9)
Round 13: [*sc in first sc, dec], repeat from * around, sl st in next sc, and tie off (6)

Use the photo as a guide for zipper shape, placement, and embroidery.

Using black, make 2...

Round 1: sc 6 in ring
Rounds 2-5: sc in each sc around (6), tie off.

I didn't stuff the arms, but you can if you'd like.  Attach pretty close to your ending round.

Using black, make 2...

Round 1: sc 3 in ring
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around (6)
Rounds 3-5: sc in each sc around, and tie off (6)

I didn't stuff the either, but again, you can if you'd like.  Attach under the part of the body where you did the sc in back loops only.

**I may have only done 4 rows for the arms and legsit is hard to see the stitches in the black yarnjust make them as long, or as short as you'd like I guess!!! Cheesy

Using white, make 2 (of courseunless you want a cyclops Gir)...

Round 1: sc 6 in ring
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Round 3: [*sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc], repeat from * around (18)
Rounds 4-6: sc in each sc around, and tie off (18).

Sofor his eyes, I didn't put the safety eyes in the center, because looking pic of Gir, you can see that his pupils go out to the side a bit.  Stuff eyes lightly and attach to face, using photo as a guide.

Using black, make 2...

Row 1: ch 9, in 2nd chain from hook, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in last 2 ch, and tie off (Cool

Use photo as a guide for placement.

Using black...
Row 1: ch 5, in 2nd chain from hook, sl st in next 2 ch, sc in last 2 ch, and tie off (4)

Attach to the rear end area.and you're done!!!

I would love to see pics of completed Gir's!!!!  If you are working on this, and get stuck (due to the fact that I am the WORST pattern writer EVER), send me a PM, and maybe we can work it out together, LOL!!!!
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Zombie swap? on: November 21, 2010 09:21:19 PM

30  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Burton's Balloon Boy on: November 21, 2010 10:48:58 AM
As a part of the package being sent to Ms. amydice, I decided to make her something Tim Burton, as like me, she is a huge fan.  So, I decided to make something based on his art, rather than one of his movies.  About a year ago, there was an exhibition of Tim Burton's art at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  Balloon Boy was one of his pieces, and I really felt like it would end up being a pretty cool plush.

I drew out my design, and used a blue woven fabric.  I completed construction, and then painted all the details on.  He stands about 9 inches tall.  Here he is!

It was hard to find a pic of the backside, but I finally found one...

Thanks for looking, C&C more than welcome!!!!
