1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / If you can't FIND a Fiji Mermaid, then make one... on: August 12, 2013 03:51:12 PM
What does Craftster mean to me?  Craftster has given me the opportunity to not only make either people happy with the things I make, but it has also given me an opportunity to find people who have similar interests...I don't feel like such a weirdo anymore, lol.  Craftster has allowed me to be me, and all the love and support form everyone on this forum has been phenomenal.  This project in particular really encompasses what Craftster has done for me.

I was recently in the sideshow swap, and was lucky enough to have a partner who had a very similar brain.  On her questionnaire, she stated that she really wanted to receive a conjoined doll, and one of her secondary wishes was the Fiji Mermaid.  She then told me that she loves anything zombie...RIGHT UP MY ALLEY!!!!  So, I decided to combine the 3 together, and a little story was created in my lil brain...I'll give you the condensed version Wink

There was a conjoined twin who grew up in an orphanage with no hope of every getting out.  A man by the name of Dr. Noble came along and adopted her.  He didn't have good intentions...his competitor had an attraction called the Fiji Mermaid, and he was losing a lot of business to him.  So, he thought that everyone would love to see a live 2-headed fiji mermaid.  He took her to the lab, and hacked off the lower half of her body, and combined it with a fish tail.  She didn't survive the surgery, so feeling defeated, he tossed her in the tank she was supposed to be displayed in.  He heard moaning from the lab, and discovered that she was no longer not JUST a 2-headed Fiji Mermaid, but and UNDEAD 2-headed Fiji Mermaid.

Ok, ok, no more talkin...on to the pics!!!!!!

Thanks for taking a look-see, and reading my long-winded post.  Thanks, Craftster for inspiring me to really go for it, try new things, make new friends, and of course....make cool stuff Grin
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / I see you shiver with antici.................. on: June 17, 2013 03:00:21 PM
........pation!!!  I was recently in the IYP swap with ohiodiygirl.  She gave me a list of poppets that she'd like to receive, and Frank N. Furter stood out, and slapped me in the face...he simply had to be made.  This is MY FAVORITE POPPET EVARRRRRRRRRR!!!  I won't ramble, but man, he was fun to make!!!

Thanks for taking a look-see...I'm so happy he is in such an amazing home!!!
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Steampunk Mary and her little lamb on: June 13, 2013 09:29:50 AM
I was recently in the poppet swap, and was fortunate enough to be partnered up with puamelia.  In her questionnaire, she listed a lot of themes, and I picked the 2 I liked most, and made a mashup.  So, without further ado:

and now for the costume detail shots:

Thank you for looking at my zillions of photos!!! Grin
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / My beloved scooter...stolen, recovered, and given a new look :) on: June 03, 2013 05:43:27 PM
So....in June of last year, I bought myself a cute little scooter as an early birthday present.  I loved this thing, babied it, saved TONS of money on gas, etc.  Well, I was only able to enjoy it for 2 1/2 months, because someone decided that they REALLY wanted it, and stole it Sad  I had given up all hope on getting it back, and started saving up for a new one.  THEN, in February, I received a call from the police department, and they told me they arrested a guy riding it in a blizzard!!!  The officer told me that he wasn't even sure that I would want it, as it was pretty messed up.  That really didn't matter to me...I NEEDED my lil girl back!!!  He wasn't joking...the guy spray-painted it flat black, and it looked like he may have dumped it a couple times.  He also popped out the ignition, but a bicycle brake on it, and removed the mirrors.  The grips and seat were once white, but they ended up brown...stained and NASTY!!!!  It took me almost 2 months to get all the work done, but she is back and better than ever!!!  Now...on to the pics!!!

Here she is before...a cute little pink thang...

Here she is after I picked her up from motorcycle/car jail (impound lot)...doesn't she look SO SAD?!?!

The only way to really cure all that ailed her, I had to take her COMPLETELY apart

Yes...you DID read that right...I glittered my scooter.

And here she is now!!!!  It is really hard to get adequate glitter pics, but you kind of get the idea, right?!?!

Now, for the numbers...

Quote for body work: $600.00                          What I paid for paint supplies: $200.00
New ignition at dealer: $125.00                        What I paid to buy and install one myself: $60.00
New seat: $110.00                                         What it cost for me to make my own: $7.00

There were several other things I had to buy, like...a new cable lock, new helmet, new mirrors, new brake lever, and so on and so on.  BUT, it sure beat the cost of buying a brand new scooter!!!

Thanks for taking a look, and reading this excessively long post Grin
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My Weeping Angel on: February 17, 2013 07:30:23 PM

Well...like many, I'm in love with Doctor Who...been watching for years!!!  "Blink" is my favorite episode, so I decided that I needed to make a Weeping Angel poppet.  I thought, "Hey Lani, this should be a piece of cake!!!...I mean, it is just one color, right?!?!"  Oh, I was SO WRONG!!!!  I sat there, staring at the basic body pieces, and my mind started racing...how was I going to get those hands to stay on her face?  How was I going to pull of the wings?  And what about the hair?  I looked at her, and my thought was that when you look at a statue, their hair isn't made from a different material, so for me, it had to be fabric.  I made several little worms, and after attaching them, I needle-sculpted it to make it look like hair...and stone.  After a lot of zoning out, some SERIOUSLY sore hands, and countless hours into this, here she is!!!  Hope you like Grin

The funny thing here, is that even though I know it is just a show, and I know she is just a doll, I kept turning to looking at her when I would turn my back.   Shocked

Thanks for looking, everyone!!!
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Frankie's Bride on: November 02, 2012 10:29:31 AM
I was recently in the vintage halloween swap, and partnered up with the amazing kittykill.  We had something in common...a LOVE of classic horror flicks, so I didn't even need to think about it...I was making The Bride of Frankenstein.

For this poppet, I really tried to stay true to the original character.  The one detail I really wanted to emphasize was her chin...Elsa Lanchester had the cutest chin dimple Grin.  The wig scared me..."how the heck am I going to pull THAT off?!?!"...crocheting to the rescue!!!  I just brushed out the wool blend yarn I used, and I'm pretty happy with it.  For the eyes, I thought they should have some weird bright colors, so I ran with that.  Okay, okay...I know...the original character didn't have cleavage hanging out...BUUUUUT...I have a weird obsession with poppet boobies, so I simply couldn't cover them up Cheesy

I think I beat my record for worst photos of all time...here are the "best" ones I found, lol...

Thanks for looking!!! Grin
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / ready to be shocked?!?! i made a poppet...her name is Nora on: August 17, 2012 10:53:18 AM
i was in the poppet mini swap, and was partnered up with the wonderful averyg.  she is a bit of a bookworm, so i asked her what some of her favorite books were, and the one she listed that grabbed my interest was, "dearly departed".  it is a post-apocolyptic, neo-victorian, steam-punky zombie book.  so i bought it, and read it, and LOVED it!!!  i studied the characters, and decided to go with nora...she's a pretty awesome heroine.

Here is a description of Nora in one scene in the book: "I was wearing a swirly black knee-length skirt with a short crinoline underneath it, black stockings, and black knee-high boots. I had a white blouse with elbow-length sleeves tucked into the skirt. She'd tied my hair back with a white ribbon, just to get it out of the way" (Habel, pg. 237).

i didn't get pictures of her little bloomers, but averyg did if you want to check out the gallery thread Cheesy

ok, no more babbling...on to the pics!!!

not the best pictures in the world...i REALLY need some photography lessons.

thanks for looking!!!!!!!

In this swap, you are required to craft only ONE small zombie item for your partner.  Although small, your item should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill.  Even if it is a simple item for you to make, please embellish so that it best represents your skill.  (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, you could embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.)   I will be kind of a stickler about participants only sending ONE item.  I want this to be as fun, cost efficient, and stress free as possible.  If you and your partner would like to make extras, please only do so if you are both in agreement of doing personal swap, and post those items in the personal swap gallery, and not in the gallery for this swap.

In this swap, the definitions and parameters of a small item are as follows:
