1  I promise I'll be kind but I won't stop until that Brain is mine in Halloween Costumes by Bunyanka on: November 06, 2010 07:59:36 PM

So, I decided with a lack of funds and an excess of materials at home to be a ZOMBIE Lady GaGa

here's my best shuffle, showcasing the clothes, I made the disco bra, clawed up top, fringe (its fake, even though I am blond, I don't have bangs!), and loopscarf, and I purchased the leggings and gloves (although I did alter them to actually FIT, because they were huge and the fingers fit funny). the shoes were already in my closet, I didn't have time to make them into giant lobster feet.

I made the executive decision to wear pants (leggings) because I live in saskatchewan, and I'm not insane or eager to die from frostbite. Although shockingly, we don't currently have snow...but you never know here!

Here are some closeup detail shots of my makeup, sans any spooky contrast. I did it all myself. Its latex, tissue, a strip of spongy padding from a dollarstore bathmat for the teeth (i keep my sewing machines on them so they don't shake the table...I hope this makes sense?) and a wackload of cheap dollarstore makeup, including foundation and several colors of that cheapy cream halloween makeup. I also made the blood, which is food color, cocoa powder, and corn syrup mixed with various amounts of water.

Comments totally welcome

2  rotting flesh? yes please in Halloween Costumes by Bunyanka on: October 27, 2010 01:02:11 PM

So this weekend the manflesh tells me they are having a desk decorating contest at work. One trip to the dollar store, and an evening later here is what happened
please excuse the photographs, they are near enough to proper color but all photos were taken at about 11.30 at night in a basement while I was finishing up, so flash and bad lighting made for fun photoshop fixes afterwards

First up, zombie hand..I picked up this bendy plastic hand/arm

and with a little work, we had something like this:

I later added a real sleeve cut off of a shirt, and the inside is also a little rotten. it was also stuffed much fuller, and had a stick put inside so you can poke people with it properly. it was a big hit, I hear.

Next up, the shrunken head

skull on a stick, a la dollarama:

first stage of nearly happy:

eyes and mouth were sewn shut at this point, although I wish I had waited. But then, I didn't realize that stage 2 was going to go so badly

Stage 2! I painted it dark to look like those mummified bodies you see in national geographic (or you know, wherever you tend to go to look at mummified remains..)
and buggered it up royally, I thought

It could be worse, but I lost a lot of texture and depth and the picture (being in the dark) makes it look even more blah. I mean, its halloween, it needs to be over the top! back to work..

Here is where I left it at to go to bed, I think it worked out pretty well

he also took another plastic skull that I cut open (jaw removed) and repainted after sanding to use as a candy bowl, a mummy hand wreath I made years ago, and some various costume bits and spiderwebs, none that I got pictures of. Maybe I'll go in and take an action shot this weekend Smiley
hope you enjoy!

3  Kinda Gibbous-inspired Top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Bunyanka on: July 16, 2010 11:53:56 AM
hey..finally a picture post! I'm both a terrible photographer, and lazy..so its a miracle I actually took pictures Smiley

I kinda dig the gibbous style, except I don't really love the flowy fairy feeling they've got (just not my style) so I made a top that is more restrained, with binding on the hem. It was a total experiment, lots of fun, and I plan on doing it again.

I am not so sure about that little ruffle I added, I wanted asymmetrical but I think its too much?

(please excuse my bra..I had no idea it was hanging out Smiley

Sorry the pics are not fantastic! I had to use the self timer on my camera. hopefully you are able to see what's going on.
detail shots:

detail of back

I am wearing my lady gaga disco bra (also made by me) underneath, because I think its awesome peeking out with it.

I had some issues with the zipper I installed not being long enough, so I tore the side out, threw another zipper in, and put on a bit of a panel to cover my mistake (whoops) not like you can tell, with the style! The next one I make will have a very long back zipper so I don't inadvertently trap myself in it again. Good times!

I have kind of got lazy and stopped sewing/crafting/creating, so I'm trying to push myself to start again. this was my first actual fun sewing project in a long long time.
