1  Re: fabric scrap swap in The Swap Gallery by CraftyDiem on: July 06, 2011 06:50:25 AM
Hey there! I thought I'd post a pic of the fabric I sent to my partner since I know she received:

She wants to make a bottled rainbows quilt and I think she got a piece of almost everything in my stash!  Smiley

I hope you enjoy!!!

2  Fourth of July "popsicles" in Recipes and Cooking Tips by CraftyDiem on: July 02, 2011 05:35:04 PM
This weekend we reworked one of our favorite "treats" to have a 4th of July theme. We LOVE making popsicles with the following ingredients: fruit, plain yogurt, vanilla yogurt. They are a healthy, cool snack for the summertime. Sometimes we call them ice cream. Smiley

For these we started out with strawberry, poured a layer and froze it. Then peach, poured a layer and then froze it. Then blueberry, poured a layer and froze it. Although the colors are not exactly red, white, and blue we are enjoying them anyways!

I'm super excited for my package from leighi123!  Cheesy Grin

I'm hoping to do a bottled rainbows and I also like doing wonky log cabins...but with this assortment I might be able to make an I SPY quilt!

Here is a peek:

Fabric Brick - How did you get so much in a such a small box?

And some thumbnails of pics...

And my favorites - some of these feel like linen???  Oh how I love them!

Thank you SO Much!!!!!!!  I'm super excited and so happy!

5  Review of Juki TL-98E in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by CraftyDiem on: May 14, 2011 03:55:02 PM

Huh I don't know when this one was made but the model was first sold in 1998

$500 for the machine, a SuperQuilter acrylic frame, and HandiHandles on Craigslist

How long have you had the machine?
2 1/2 years

Is it a basic sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine?
Basic, semi-industrial straight stitch only machine.

What are your favorite features?
It is fast (1500 stitches a minute at top speed) and incredibly strong.  It will sew through anything.  It is made of metal and is heavy and sturdy.

What are some of the unique features it has?
Thread cutting foot pedal (I love this) and button, knee lifter, needle down position (the needle stays down when you stop sewing).

How well does it run?
Pretty well - the only issue I have with it is that the tension is VERY finicky.  I feel like I am always adjusting both the top needle tension and the bobbin tension.  At least I've learned a lot about tension from this machine.

Has it ever broken or needed maintenance you couldn't do yourself?
No - knock on wood!

What are your least favorite features?
There has been a huge learning curve for me - but I think that's probably true of just about any machine.  At least any of the more complicated ones.  I've learned so much about tension and how to figure out if it's right, how to adjust it, and when to stop sewing and say goodnight!

Would you recommend this machine to a friend?
Probably...Huh  I'm not sure everyone wants a machine that is really just for straight stitching and quilting.

6  Re: Mug Rug Swap Gallery! (SendOut Feb 22) in The Swap Gallery by CraftyDiem on: March 01, 2011 01:29:26 PM
I received last week but haven't had a lot of free time.  I LOVE this rug - so cute!  Thanks so much KWality!!!  The fabric couldn't be sweeter and the stitching is really creative!

The back is the same cute fabric as the house:

I'm not sure how well you can tell from the photos but there is quilting to look like clouds in the sky!  Smiley

I am SOOOOOOOO very excited to show you the mug rug I JUST got from Canamharris!!!!!!  I mean, there just aren't words to describe this gorgeous little mini-quilt/mug rug.

Here at my house we (my 3 1/2 yo daughter and I) are pretty into Red Riding Hood.  It's because we both love the musical Into the Woods.  (Yes, not really appropriate for a little kid but one day a year or so ago she was sick and I figured we could watch the first few songs...)  ANYWAYS LOOK what I got!!  I was so excited that I completely forgot to take an "action" shot because I wanted to get this photo up right away!

and back:

How amazing is that??  Isn't she just darling???  And now I feel really bad that work took precedence over making it to the PO today.  Sad silly work.

But WOW!!!  I mean, wist it up my friends!  I am just giddy over this.  The only thing is that I'm pretty sure I have to hide it in my office or it will be stolen and claimed by my kiddo.

Thank you SO much!!!  Can you tell I love it?

9  Re: Mug Rug Swap (SignUp CLOSED, SendOut Feb 21 2011) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by CraftyDiem on: January 23, 2011 09:05:07 AM
So cute!  I love the fabric on the first one!  I have SOOOOO many ideas!

I made this one yesterday morning while waiting for partners:

From the back:

It needs some re-binding.  I don't understand store-bought bias but since I was trying to finish it quickly I thought I'd give it a try.  It's also too long - I meant to not go all the way to the end but I forgot to not.  I have been really wanting to do a ticker tape quilt but have, of course, a long list of other projects.  I'm not sure "ticker tape" is the right look for a mug rug though - I think you need a bit of a bigger piece to get the full effect.  But it was fun to do!

10  Owl Needlebook in Needlework: Completed Projects by CraftyDiem on: January 19, 2011 01:13:25 PM
So I participated in the needlebook swap and I had so many fun ideas I feel like there are still more I want to make!  Now I'm not a huge owl fan - in fact I am not a bird fan at all.  I can appreciate the cuteness of some of the fabrics out there - but in person I would prefer not to be too close to birds.  (My husband thinks I had some traumatic avian incident the memory of which I have blocked from my childhood)  At any rate this really caught my eye while I was seeking inspiration:

So I made one based on it - very similar.  I figure you need a needlebook for quilting and sewing and then a different one for embroidery, right?  And possibly some more for...pins?  and...other stuff??
