1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Sending a little girl with cancer some cheer and happiness on: November 11, 2011 04:39:14 AM

Hi guys

This event on Facebook has been started by someone who is friends with several friends I have on FB. Thought there might be a few people out there interested in donating a crafted item or sending her a card or something. Here is the background story:

Dearest Friends,
I own a dance studio, and I have a student, (little girl, who will be 10 this month), that just had her left kidney removed, and was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney cancer.
I was wondering, if anyone would like to send her a get well card, or a care package....something for her to cuddle, or play with...that sort of thing, to help keep her smiling, and stay positive?
I thought it would be nice, for her to get cards, from all over the world, to keep her spirits up, and give her something fun to enjoy, while she is fighting this illness!!! A smile is the best medicine!!! If you would like to send her a card...etc, private message me, Tari Ott, or my friend Keithy T Bear, and we will get you an address. This really means a lot, and I do appreciate your kindness. Thank you all!!! xoxoxoxo

Here is the link to the event so you can "attend" and also contact Tari or Keithy to get the address: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=183233105096267

Hope to see some of you there Smiley

Here is the card I sent to the little girl:

Does anyone have any recommendations on craft stores?? I'm after dress making materials shops and paper crafts shops. I have a day free next Thursday and will be staying in the Katoomba area.

Thanks Smiley
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / My first ATCs on: August 10, 2011 03:12:44 AM
Until recently, I never felt confident enough to give ATCs a go, but now I have and am rather pleased with the results. Here are some that I am rather proud of:

The themes were (L-R): Random fact, stained glass and location
In particular this one:

I am tempted to go and take some painting lessons to make them look a bit more real.

Oh and a question for anyone who can help me, I wrote on the back of the above beach scene 1/1 thinking I'd only be making the one because it was an Acrylic theme and I chose to paint a beach, but now I'm doing another beach themed one with Acrylic paint - does the series etc thing matter or can I just say 1/1 again? Even though I may in the future choose to do a few more beach themed ones because I quite like how it turned out.
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Bedside Caddy from tea towel on: July 22, 2011 08:42:49 AM
Here is my most recent project I've made for myself, I rarely make much for myself but I think this turned out well. I recently bought a loft bed and I can't reach my bedside table etc when in bed. A standard caddy placed under the mattress wasn't ideal for what I needed, so I whipped this up instead.

It has four pockets suitable for remote controls, mobile, small water bottle etc. The four blue parts are sewn on the back but are velcro on the front to make it easy to remove.

I made it from a tea towel and some scrap fabric I had in my stash, I didn't really measure anything, just used the fold marks on the towel to roughly estimate a straight line.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Dying light blue jeans - what colour? on: May 02, 2011 10:14:58 PM
Has anyone here had experience with dying light blue jeans? I have an old pair that don't look too flash anymore and I was debating about giving dying a go. I would've liked black but I suspect some of the jeans will go black but a lot of them will probably go grey.
I can post a pic of them if that helps for reference.

Thanks in advance Smiley
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Sabrina the teenage witch swap? on: April 23, 2011 08:29:17 AM

I've been watching old episodes of Sabrina and thought it would make a good theme for a swap. I've almost finished organising my first swap and I expect it to be fully finished in the next week or so, so providing it goes well I'd be happy to organise the Sabrina swap.
Probably wouldn't be a huge swap, maybe 3-4 points and am thinking of doing it around May-June.
Would anyone be interested?
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Tear drop pearls - how to use them?? on: March 17, 2011 08:29:42 AM
Sorry if I post this in the wrong place or it's been asked before. I intend on making some jewellery and picked up some tear drop pearl beads - assuming they'd have a hole in the top that would allow me to thread them onto wire or whatever. The trouble is.... they have a hole that is on the top directly down and there is no hole at the other end. I looked through them all to make sure it wasn't just one that was a defect.
If need be, I can take a photo with a pin to show you all where the hole is if my post is confusing, but I'm hoping someone here has used beads like this before and knows a trick.
I'm making something similar to this
and need the beads to sit the same way.

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated  Cheesy

9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Completed Projects / Scrapbook page on: March 04, 2011 07:10:59 AM
Hi there

This is my second attempt at scrapbooking with a class, and I thought it turned out well. I created the layout and design myself, and provided the lace, photos and beads, my teacher provided all the paper for it.

C&C welcome

10  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Anyone in the Snowy Mountains area? on: February 23, 2011 06:01:46 AM
Are there any fellow craftsters in the Snowy Mountains area of NSW?
Any age is fine, I can currently sew, do card making and am keen to learn to crochet or knit.
I also attend a weekly card making session but would like to get out more and meet people that are interested in crafts.
I'm interested in joining any crafting groups that might be around as well - I've asked around and I can't find out much info on anything.
I'm willing to go to Canberra but obviously closer to home would be better.
If there's no groups, I'm also keen just to meet up for crafting sessions where we can share tips and that sort of thing.
