11  That 80s Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ViciousPrecious on: June 11, 2011 05:26:08 AM
You might say I'm a little obsessed with retro fashion... I love the sleeves on this dress and had been wanting to make it up for a while. The fabric I got on the cheap from a little place that gets leftover bolts from uniform manufacturers and other sources. It's very slippery, shiny and totally synthetic. It's funny to think some poor soul probably had to wear a blouse made out out of this to work many years ago.

I added a chunky gold zip to the back.

I wore it out for a night on the town with my bestie. My hair looks a little crazy cos we may have had some shots and danced to 80s tunes...

Thanks for looking at my new dress. Let me know what you think of it. Smiley

12  Re: Spring is for METAL!!(Metal Swap round 2) Gallery!! (NSFW) in The Swap Gallery by ViciousPrecious on: June 01, 2011 04:38:14 AM
I got my awesome swag from Rainbowendings today! The attention to detail with the stuff I liked was amazing.

First up, coasters with lyrics to my favourite songs. And a Tool one for the boyfriend (he says thanks!).

Bottle cap pins! So many cool things!

Ticket stub box, which I've already put into use. Boyfriend also says thanks because he keeps finding my ticket stubs everywhere.

Metal emergency bag. I am ready to rock out in a big way. I love the lining fabric and the tiny secret pocket. This will get a lot of use. Thank you! Cheesy

And today I learned there is an active stratovolcano in Washington, thanks to the Mt St Helens clip. Wink

There were also some whatchamacallit chocolate bars, which have mysteriously disappeared...
Thank you so much, I feel incredibly spoiled. You're a great swap partner!

I'm pretty sure my partner has got her parcel by now, here's a peek at the stuff I sent on in our round robin group.

My partner is much smaller than me, so just pretend if you will that the tops actually fit my dress form Tongue
The band names are done with freezer paper stencils. My first attempt! Nailed it!
The tops are all made from scratch, some recycled material.

Whoops, sorry about the mega-post. Thanks for a great swap everyone! \m/

FIRST!!! Grin

I got my package from theballandskein today, all the way from Canada to Australia. It was the best Monday afternoon surprise ever.

First the crafted items. She made this beautiful shrug from hand dyed cotton. The flash does not do the colours justice, it is gorgeous. theballandskein is incredibly talented.

There was also a silk yarn cowl. I decided to put everything on at the same time. The hat was left at my house after a party one other time but it seemed appropriate.

And on with the snacks!

I have never tried any of these in my life. Very excited to get snacking. Cheesy

I ♥ Chippies!

And some lovely postcards and other bits.

I'm totally putting the Eh! sticker on my car!!! Cheesy

Thank you so much to my partner and the organiser. This was the best ever.

14  Blue Sky, Blue Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ViciousPrecious on: May 27, 2011 11:10:39 PM
I am slowly working my way through the hundreds of patterns I acquired some years ago. I've been meaning to make this one up for quite some time now. It turned out great and I've now decided I need more blue dresses in my life. Smiley

As much as I hate princess seams and these dresses that have multiple panel pieces, I just keep coming back for more because the fit is so beautiful. It's fully lined as well so I basically had to make the whole thing twice then stitch it to the facing. Shocked

It may be winter here but it is such fantastic weather outside today!

Here is the pattern I used. It looks very 80s/90s in the picture but I was going for more of a 50s look with my version and styling. How did I go?

I'm so glad you like it. Much swap anxiety over this one. Cheesy

I will get in a couple of sneaky pics but I would love to see it on the person it was intended for.

I started with this second hand evening gown

And came up with this ruffle skirt

One of the most fun swaps to craft for.

It's here! My amazing skirt from The_ChiHa!

The fit, colours and appliqué are all perfect and the weight of the fabric will be excellent for winter (I'm in the southern hemisphere).

A close up of the robot appliqué!

I had this one in my inspiration list but the one The_ChiHa did for me is like a million times cooler.

Thanks so much, I had a brilliant time in this swap. Smiley

Thanks everyone  Smiley

Did you use a pattern for the dress?
I used this really old style pattern. As you can see from the back of the packet it's a pretty simple design. I use view B added some flare to the skirt, scooped out the neck a little more and added some ease to the sleeve head for some little gathers. I love poofy sleeves. And tulle.

20  Care Bear Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by ViciousPrecious on: March 24, 2011 03:16:08 PM
I got this fabric in a swap ages ago and couldn't decide how to use it! I was inspired by N30Nb100d's post from a while back and finally got around to making my own Care Bear Dress.

So I didn't go full Care Bear, just the bodice. The tulle is attached to the lining at the bottom giving it a tiny bit of fullness.

The lining is separate for the bodice and skirt part.

And now some lovely, blurry cell phone pics of me wearing it!  Tongue

Hanging around in the grocery store parking lot, like I'm 17 and not actually 27!

This was so much fun to make and wear. I think I will try and find more novelty fabric like this. The white parts actually glow in the dark, if I can find out a good way photograph it I'll add another pic. Thanks for looking!  Smiley
