WingsOfClay is Awesome

Now that I've got that out of the way, I would like to state I made this immediately after seeing WingsOfClay's amazing entry (and tutorial): https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=417535.0

Did I mention that person is awesome?

Well, since it's winter time and my friend and I just watched "Rise of the Guardians", I decided to make a Jack Frost inspired mask. I twisted the threads and got what I think is a really great organic looking texture.  This might be a good method for making small false trees.  I think it turned out well for my first attempt.  I look forward to making more!

The twirls were fun.
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Coiled Fairy Wings on: June 04, 2010 11:34:49 PM

I used the cord for curtains and upholstery found in the backs of most JoAnnes, wrapped that in soft metal wires, and then lined the back cross and most of the wings with hanger wire for support, and then coiled over all that with yarn.  If you would notice--the designs inside the wings are in all purpose symmetrical like real wings.  It was actaully pretty easy to do.  The second time I had a pattern.  The first time was just trying to fill up a predetermined space.

The story: My final project in my Fiber Arts Class was a wearable project.  I didn't want to make a wearable project I would never wear.  What did other people make?  A coiled hat, a revamped bra, felted beer mittens... (there was a bottle cap opener attached! It was silly), a bag or two.   I wanted to be awesome so of course I tell her "Fairy Wings".

Why do I alway choose projects that are too much work?  I did the same thing for my high school fibers class, I picked a huge project--not just a big one. Anyway, with the teacher looking at me like "What is she thinking--she'll never get this done" I did it!

I had to pull my first college all-nighter for this.  I finished 2 hours before class. I changed my clothes, and left for class early, proudly wearing my wings.... in the snow. ^_^

I don't know how long this took.  This project was made at the same time as my weaving.   (the weaving was due a week before, so i basically put most of this off until that week.)

Though, I didn't do as good as I wanted. The back has gaps because I only had time to focus on one side sadly.  If I ever make this into a full costume for Halloween or something--I'll go back and try to fix that.  For now it's fine. ^_^
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Castle Oblivion Purse on: June 04, 2010 10:54:50 PM

So I was playing around with old T-Shirts and my sewing machine and made this.  I've owned the machine for a few years, but we're just getting to know each other.  I had no idea I could do a project like this, so I had a ton of fun making some Kingdom Hearts related images for the dork in me. ^_^  I might have to make more! It only took a day or so.  (This is why I never throw out old T-Shirts!)

Here we have a WAY simplified Castle Oblivion with the Nobody symbol for decoration (that was HARD to do O.o  I have a new-found respect for all this.) and to the left you'll see a bottle that have a note from King Mickey in it... Random but why not?

I love my new bag. It even has a Magnetic Snap so it can stay closed!

4  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Fantasy Weaving on: June 04, 2010 10:30:48 PM

My weaving I made in my fiber design class in College.  We were supposed to base it off about an artist or piece of art.  I based this off Josephine Wall's "Key to Eternity". http://img.allposters.com/6/LRG/18/1847/AYG8D00Z.jpg
I focused on a two inch area on a poster I have of that--it's an amazing poster with so much going on, I didn't even see that part the first time I looked at it.  But now I can't help looking at it.  I want to escape into that world in the keyhole, so that's why I chose to weave it with the animal and butterflies... though I sort of wish I didn't put in the bugs in hindsight.  Those were supposed to balance and add to the idea I was going for... But the animal is really supposed to represent all my work in the shelters and the feeling I get when an animal is adopted.  But for now he's waiting. Sad  Sadness.

The coloring is so different because my printer was low on colors and I kind of like how the colors turned out! haha!

Many, Many hours of work.  I don't know how much but I watched (well, listened to) over 200 episodes of Dragon Ball Z and that was at the 1/4-1/2 range when I started watching them. (so at least 100 hours of work in less than 2 months.)
