Last year I designed and hand-stitched a
felted wool holster for the toy gun of my 4 years old son Elia.
It's a very easy project and a durable object.
Required materials:-
Felted wool (I used the material I created from these instructions
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art34743.asp) or heavy felt.
- Scraps of lighter felt and other decorations, such as buttons
- Needle, thread, scissors
- Belt or lanyard to fasten to waist
My son has given clear indications about the colors to use and the type of decorations.
The holster was sewn after its final approval and widely tested.
After more than one year it's still in use and undamaged.
Procedure:- Print the template below and cut it. The measures are suitable for guns of different sizes.
You can download the pdf file from Scribd here:
- Place the paper template on the felted wool and cut the main shape from the felt following the pattern (can be useful to fasten the paper and the felted wool with pins)
- Bend the shape of the holster placing the side A on side B, matching the bottom corner.
- Sew the two layers with stitches
- Cut two parallel slots more or less 1/3 and 2/3 of the upper edge, where you have to put a belt.
- Apply the decoration (eg cutting out a star from a light felt and stitching it at the center of the holster - as we did - and stitching buttons on the edge)
Play nice!
