1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / More of a how than a what - Fabric Scraps into Stuffing? on: October 23, 2016 12:39:14 PM
I have this idea that I must be able to break down fabric + thread scraps and fluff them into stuffing, but I'm lost on what will break them down relatively quickly without completely destroying them. Anyone ever tried something like this? My first thought was vinegar, but I have a feeling that would be very, very slow Grin
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Machine not feeding fabric! on: August 22, 2016 07:06:14 PM
Hi all!

I was just gifted an old Kenmore Ultra-Stitch 10. After a thorough cleaning it's in great working order, except that it won't feed fabric through. The feed dogs move up and down with stitches, but don't seem to be moving back like they should.

Googling the problem, I'm only coming up with results where the feed dogs aren't moving at all. Not so helpful.

Any idea what might be up with it? I'm half convinced I've got it on some wrong setting, so I'm playing with knobs to try to figure it out, but no luck yet. If anyone else has had this kind of issue, I'd love to hear whether you were able to fix it!

Thanks Smiley
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: 2015 Holiday Tags and Cards Swap GALLERY - send outs 11/04 on: November 13, 2015 03:03:35 PM
There are some absolutely beautiful cards and tags going on!

I received all three of my packages yesterday and I am thrilled with what I received! Having computer problems (uggggh). If I can't get it fixed in the next day or two, I'll have to find another way to post pictures. Go visit family and borrow a computer or something.

Hi all! It's been a pretty terrible week, culminating in my laptop spontaneously dying for no discernable reason. Regardless, I have been crafting! Seeing if I can get the laptop up and running tonight, then I can actually get in here and read up on what's been going on!

Currently house-sitting in my hometown (I normally live only about 30 minutes away, but it's nice being right here) and taking a break from everything to work on NaNoWriMo and hang out downtown.... The problem is, I'm so excited about the stuff I'm making for this swap it's kinda hard to turn off the want to work on it! Might go out ~material sourcing~ (thrift shopping) to make up for it, since I still need a few things for the one project.

Working a bit on finishing up before I go to an event tonight! Now is not the time to be indecisive....

It's so difficult to resist looking at the gallery, but I don't want to be swayed (or given swap anxiety) by the beautiful things that are most likely being posted Wink

If you could have witnessed anything in the course of history what would it be? why?

This is such a hard question, but seeing other people answer the Library of Alexandria - yeah. That's a lifelong time-travel dream, right there Smiley

Also up there: seeing the Beatles perform back in the Cavern days (or really at all, but in the Cavern days we could have been friends... right?), dinosaurs, Alexander the Great (another long-time fascination), going back to see the Phillies' '08 world series win in person rather than on TV.

Check in Question #2:

If you could master anything immediately what would it be?

First thing that comes to mind is speaking Korean.... After being into k-pop for nearly six years, I can read the alphabet but usually don't know what it means, other than names and key phrases (I can get around pretty well in a Korean restaurant, plus the phrases "all day (haru jongil)" and "from head to toe (moributo balkkeutggaji)" show up in a ton of songs, so how could I not know them? And some pretty basic stuff, like honorifics and numbers and small talk and "I love you". ... And "watermelon" and "apple". And probably some other unhelpful stuff.)

I'm fascinated by languages and linguistics in general Cheesy Currently working on learning Spanish and Irish Gaelic, relearning French and German. I went to a school where French and German were required classes 1st-8th grade, then you could choose French, German or Spanish for high school. I did 12 years of French. I remember shamefully little 8 years later.

I keep playing with what I have for nowheresound instead of finishing it. I can't help it because it's so cute. But I must finish it so I can start on the other items.

After seeing this and your other comment, I am screaming very, very quietly to myself.

I like to post my projects on twitter/instagram/sometimes facebook. Gotta direct them towards the people who will shower me with the most love for them Grin

I've been playing with the pattern for the medium for two weeks while I gather materials.... The problem is that I have such a distinct vision for it that I'm having trouble finding things that fit. I'm really excited about it, though!!! I think it'll be really cool when it's done.

The small is sitting, finished, on my craft table. The problem with that one is that I had two ways I wanted to make it, and now I want to try the other way. I have the time, so maybe I will, and then just decide which one I like better.

Been having a heck of a time with these tags! Finally on the right track and excited again about what's going on Smiley My problem is wanting to figure everything out myself... sometimes you have to give up and look for guidance from the lovely crafters here and all over the interwebs Wink
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Emperor Pen Pen the Squish. on: October 17, 2015 05:54:37 PM
I made this squishy baby for a close friend's birthday. I was pretty nervous to figure him out, since he's a character, and I've never done any sort of cartoon-y thing before.

I freehanded the pattern, and while he ended up a little wider than I'd intended I ended up keeping that design - good for snuggling. He's about 18" high and 14" wide (not including his little wings!).

nowheresound, you have an interesting combination of obsessions going on Cheesy

I hope that's interesting in the interesting way, and not in the oh-god-what kind of way Grin

I went to Joann's looking for stuff for the other swap I'm in and ended up getting stuff for this one. I think I might actually start on the medium this evening!
