1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / teenage mutant ninja turtle sheets...?? on: July 07, 2005 03:23:28 PM
i felt inspired today, so i went thrifting over at my local Value World. despite receiving odd glances from the random passerby, i sifted my way through the sheets and lo and behold! i find these huge, awesome TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLE sheets from way back when. definitely my favorite cartoon as a kid. woot. so. now i'm stuck. not too sure what to make them into! i was thinking maybe a nifty skirt, a pillow...no idea. any suggestions would be appreciated! 2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / jordy-esque messenger bag! (pictures!) on: January 26, 2005 08:03:05 PM
oh man. this is pretty much i did all day. ha. yes, it took me awhile mostly because this is pretty much the third thing i've sewn, so i'm still learning. and plus, for about 2 hours i thought i broke my mom's sewing machine. fabulous.
so yeah. i pretty much used the tut of jordy's square bottom bag, (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=19288.0) which by the way is awesome, except i made it bigger, with a longer strap, and with a flap. pretty much the most difficult thing was flipping everything out correctly so nothing was backwards or inside out. (hooray for seam rippers, because i accidentally made the lining backwards! how tedious!)  Grin i found some great crimson fabric and some random lizard stuff for the lining. it's cute. i'm happy with the way it turned out. too bad i don't know how to make pockets, that's for next time... 3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / insane paper mache project (pictures!) on: January 22, 2005 09:23:45 PM
haha, well, this is a project i did for my shakespeare class. my friend and i decided to create a life-size William Shakespeare out of paper mache. easier said than done...it took us quite a few weeks to plan, get ready, and get enough motivation to do it. we made a base out of some old plywood, and put it on wheels (ha). his skeleton is made of metal conduit piping, and then we wrapped chicken wire around it to kind of add some shape to the body. he's a bit gangly and odd-shaped, but hey, it works. we then put about two layers of paper mache on. hardest part definitely the shaping of the head and the hands. ugh. after he dried for like a day, we covered him in this unhumanlike peach/pink color, and attempted to fix the skin tone. we proceeded to paint some lips on...and then made my mom paint the face on because she's literally an artist. great. we sewed all of the clothes, not very accurately, but i do think he turned out really well. i got a 100 on the project, so that's great. ha. i just wanted to post this because i thought you guys might get a kick out of it. enjoy!

really creepy to wake up in the middle of the night and see this...
