1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Craft Swaps / Re: CLOSED Use The Good Beads, Fabric, Yarn, etc. ROUND 2 (SO May 27) on: May 23, 2019 08:24:41 PM
Hi everybody! Sorry to be slow with replies, my work's been a bit demanding too.

What sort of jobs have you had in your life? Do you do work that's different from what you went to school for and if so, what's the story, morning glory?

It was so interesting to read about all your different jobs! Making caramel apples sounds too tempting Cheesy

I've had a very random assortment of jobs, from student gigs fruit picking and packing, commercial laundromat, sewing machinist, then to travel agent, small bookshop manager, support worker for a child cancer charity, hospital chaplain, lecturer. Currently a part-time parish priest (Anglican/Episcopalian) and wannabe writer.

Tell me something quirky or odd about your crafting. It could be a tool or material you use for an unexpected purpose, an unusual location you craft in, something strange that inspires you, anything at all!

Given my current work role, I've sometimes gotten weird looks when I tell people that I really enjoy life drawing. I think life drawing is one of the best ways to learn to draw - people who are into art generally understand, but some non-arty-crafty people find it a strange hobby. I haven't found a class in my new town though, so I haven't done it for a while.

I'm cool with extending sendouts, but my crafting has been going well, so hopefully I will be able to send by the earlier date anyway! I think Jennie's going to like the item I chose for her in the end - I had something in stash that turned out to be just right for her I think Cheesy

Question number #1: What supply do you find yourself collecting even though you don't really do that craft?

There are a few pretty things I find it hard to resist - beads/charms, fancy stickers/papers, laces/ribbons. But when I'm making things, I actually tend to use plain supplies - fairly simple fabrics, plain watercolour paper and paint.

I try to use the pretty bits I have, but they tend to be used for little zipper pulls and things, and making gift cards, so I don't get through the stash quickly. After several years of living in a small apartment, I got a lot better about saying no to supplies I wasn't sure I'd use soon, but now we are in a house again .....  Cheesy

Some might say that I have too many buttons, but that's a problem I just can't admit.

Which are you, a morning person or an night owl? Feel free to include your gripes about having to be the one you are not! (so says a midnight crafter with an office job, le sigh)

Definitely a morning person, a bit too much at the moment. I'm usually wide awake before 5.00am. I'd like to be able to sleep in until six, and not crash out on the couch before ten. I often get a bit of creative work done before boring work though, which is a good way to start the day.

Look at the wonderful things Wulf made for me!! The prints are so cool - I love the modern-arty vibe - and everything is going to be super-useful too Smiley

There's a fantastic hangable storage pod/bin, intricate smaller vessels for little crafty things, a luggage tag (awesome!), pieced coaster, and bookmark. I can't believe you got so many things out of two FQs! And, some map fabric and dalek fabric - perfect!! Cheesy

Here's a closer look at the more intricate things, the little triangle vessel even has matching beads. Everything is so neatly sewn too, they feel lovely and crisp. I'm going to enjoy using them all!

Thank you so much for a wonderful package of goodies!!

And (please forgive the double post) - I did take up the challenge to work on a positive piece for myself. I had a blank brown paper journal that had been waiting to become something for a while. I decided to make it a positive affirmations journal - inspired by all you lovely people and your amazing creativity Cheesy

This is the first page, and I trust it won't be the last.

Thank you again CLM for a marvellous swap!

I was also spoiled with a super-happy package from Smmarrt! Cheesy  Colouring pages with perfect quotes, a wonderfully arty, handmade journal (haha great minds think alike), and a marvellous prayer flag, all wrapped in the happiest paper!!

The fabric of the prayer flag has a delicious texture, and buttons Smiley and the inside of the journal is full of inspiring papers.

Wow, the pink is so happy Cheesy even though I'm not usually into pink - gorgeous work!

I got an AMAZING package from onyxnox!! Look at all this aqua and indigo!! and treats - there's even tea that's blue  Shocked which I can't wait to try!!

Here's a close up of the monogrammed (painted/screenprinted?) napkins and the fabulous leather cuff! (you can see how everything matches my wedding ring Cheesy )

It's hard to pick favourites, but I think these handmade sketchbooks/journals are just the best!! lovely thick paper, and gorgeous textured covers, with a perfect quote inside one. And even better, the pages are fastened in with elastic, so refillable! I love these so much Cheesy

AND two wonderful pockety bags from recycled denim - these go so well with my small collection of project bags - my craft room shelves are looking super creative and organised! AND awesome socks! with space cats!!

Thank you so much Onyxnox!! this is such a gorgeous happy package, which has brightened up a stressful time so much!
