Cushion attack!!!!!

My lounge furniture is manky. So were my cushions. But now, I have some new ones!! (and more will come). Now if only I could do something about the lounge suite ....

My friend was having a birthday - he is an introvert like me, and a gamer. I saw this line on pinterest, so I made a version for him (he loved it Cheesy)

(I have another one to sew up for hubby too Wink)

... and these last cushions are bit more serious. My dear, very creative and talented aunty died a few years ago. I inherited a lot of her sewing and craft things. One of them was a box full of a half-made quilt from years ago - several patchwork and hand-appliqued (!) 12" blocks, and a bunch of fabric and cut pieces. I don't know why she never finished it. It's beautifully done, but is a very traditional design in dark fabrics.

It was my uncle's birthday, and I didn't know what to get him (he never wants anything more than a phonecall). So I made up two of the quilt squares into cushions - simple machine quilting, and added a border. I'm very pleased with how they came out - the neutral putty-coloured linen I added seems to work well. I'm undecided what to do with the rest of the quilt bits - may make up a quilt with it, but combine with more neutrals.

22  Revenge of the Stumpwork Tentacle: Tentacle Twinchie!! in Needlework: Completed Projects by jemimah on: July 10, 2014 02:18:45 AM
I was making something for the lovely sheepBlue for OWS. She asked for an embroidered twinchie, and she also had MissingWillow's marvellous miniature crime scene on her list of inspiration. Plus, some of you may remember a previous incident with a tentacle, which I knew sheepBlue liked. So all these things came together in my brain .....

It is made of silk fabric, felt, wire and embroidery thread, and tiny 00 model figures. I mounted it on a 2" x 2" artist canvas (just stitched on, no glue). It was a lot of fun to make!!

Poor little sailors .... there is no escape from the Tentacle ....

Happy 4th of July from wintry Wellington!  Grin

I have been having a great week on holiday. Most of my crafting has been for swaps, so I can't post pics yet, but I did get some of my pics organised for projects done earlier this year. Prepare for pics!!

My hubby got me a new phone!! so I had to make a communicator cosy Smiley

I've also been doing lots of knitting (pattern details here). Smiley

And I turned an old book into a stationery/mail art folder!

And I even made a bunch of cards for swaps, using a beautiful stamp Limeriot made for me. Now I'll have to do lots more swapping to use these up ... Cheesy

24  Book into stationery folder in Completed Projects by jemimah on: July 04, 2014 01:55:25 PM
A dear friend moved overseas and we plan to write actual  letters and make mailable art for each other. For my first mailing, I made her a folder to put stationery in.

I had this great old "the Book of Craft" with a purple and orange cover from the 1970s. Unfortunately, someone had already cut out the best pages... So I felt no guilt at all about turning it into this.

I gutted it and painted it with acrylics, and then sealed it with spray varnish. I turned the title into "the book of crafty arty MAIL". I forgot to get a pic of the interior. It's lined with purple fabric that incorporates several pockets and elastic pen holders. My friend loved it!!

25  Some knitted accessories in Knitting: Completed Projects by jemimah on: July 04, 2014 01:42:43 PM
I've been doing some knitting this year. These are some of my favourite projects so far Smiley

I love these grurple (green + purple) mitts! My sister loves them too though, so I may have to make some more. Lovely free pattern Bisontine.

This Distant Hours shawl is made of silk. A bit of work, but so worth it! I omitted the picot bindoff for a spikier look.

This chevron scarf is a super easy free pattern - great way to use up scraps!

This Stringband can be worn as a cowl or a funky hat.

Yay for knitting!!

26  Communicator Cosy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by jemimah on: July 04, 2014 01:10:04 PM
My hubby got me an awesome new phone for my birthday  Kiss

A fantastic new communicator deserves a fantastic new home! So I made one Smiley

My sewing machine is in for repairs, so the whole thing was made by hand (no pattern required, just made to fit the phone). It is made of silk, with a felt lining. It was such a pleasant small project to stitch while watching my Next Generation DVDs. I am very pleased with it.

It has velcro dots for closure (stitched down for security). I used fusible web for the applique, but because it will be handled a lot, I also stitched it all down (just with sewing thread), and couched perle cotton around the silver part. I also tried out cutting the lining a smidge (4mm) smaller than the fabric, and stitching the edges with raw edges lined up (need to ease carefully around the curves). This way you get the lining sitting perfectly just inside the edge - it worked a treat!!

30  Re: Writing Magic - NaNoWriMo 2013 (SO Oct3) in The Swap Gallery by jemimah on: October 13, 2013 10:48:23 PM
I got my amazing parcel from Averia!!  Grin

All the loot together ...

She sent me a wonderful fabric-covered journal with a great writing quote embroidered on the front! Close up:-

Averia's embroidery is always so tiny and precise, I think she must use lasers Cheesy

She also sent me a tiny Spock on a pouch! Love!! And a gorgeous wee notebook with sashiko embroidery on the front of it - so pretty!

And as if that wasn't enough, she sent not one but two handcrafted necklaces. One is a tiny book, with real pages and a little marker  Cheesy and the other one is beautiful freestyle embroidery - I just adore this!

Plus she sent a BUNCH of extras, Koolaid for dying yarn (yay, I have had a go at this once, and it was brilliant, but I ran out of Koolaid - can't wait to try it again), wonderful black silk thread and silver thread (so spoilt!!  Grin), and very thoughtfully, extra clasps in case I want to change the length of the necklaces!

Thank you so much Ave - you are a fabulous swap partner and craftster buddy!! I only hope my parcel for you lives up to this spoilage!!
