1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Stuck on a pattern I don't understand! Help please! on: October 12, 2013 11:54:34 AM
Currently knitting a jumper. I have 48 stitches cast on and am knitting in rib, k4 p4 each row.
I don't understand the increase. Do I knit or purl?!

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Owl Coasters (Hama beads) on: March 07, 2011 10:12:38 AM
Owl Coasters from Hama beads, so this is what I came up with Cheesy

They're 4 different colours and i photographed them in my lizards vivarium Smiley (Lizard currently chewing my neck! :/ )

Comments and criticisms welcome Cheesy
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Save the Date on: February 13, 2011 04:33:32 PM
So, I'm getting married in November to the love of my life Smiley  I'm currently writing up my PhD thesis and in order to save my sanity i decided we needed Save the Date cards!  I made the design on photoshop (through trial and error mainly as i'm a graphics noob!) and then printed it onto some card i'd tea-stained, then punched the edges with a border punch.
Also i made a stamp just using foam and an old plastic tub to glue it to.  I used the stamps on the envelopes that i'm going to post the cards in Cheesy

Our wedding is having a sort of victoriana/steampunk and peacock theme, so i was kind of hoping to capture that with my save the date's Cheesy

These are the envelopes, i used a copper and goldy coloured ink to create two images.

These are the save the date cards Cheesy  I've blacked out the location on the photos to preserve privacy Smiley

This one shows the tea-staining best i think:

Wish the pictures did them justice.  I took them in my lizards viv as it's the brightest light in here by far Smiley

C&C welcome <3 thanks for looking
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet scarf on: December 03, 2010 08:28:43 AM
So like in my knitting thread:https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=366321 i decided the men folk I'm gifting can have scarves.  I was going to knit them all, but I'm much quicker at crochet, so decided a few crochet ones would be good too.

Here's the result.  It's just a simple ribbed scarf that I made a decorative row down the middle using triple crochet Smiley

I think the first picture shows the colour more accurately.  I used two strands of yarn.  One aran weight grey and one slightly less than DK weight blue/grey Smiley
The effect is really nice, the camera doesn't capture it too well Smiley

C&c welcomed Cheesy
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Meandering rib scarf on: December 03, 2010 08:27:56 AM
So this year for Xmas i've decided to make a lot of handmade gifts (it saves money and is far more personal) and for the men folk i decided scarves Smiley  (I have also made a crochet one:https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=366322 )

I followed a pattern on Lionbrand yarn's website (i can post the link if anyone wants it)

So here is the result.  I used aran weight grey wool Smiley

I have another one to knit Smiley C&c welcomed Cheesy
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Futurama Hama Coasters on: September 21, 2010 02:31:51 PM
We just moved flats and it needs brightening up and some 'geekery' adding.  So having found a new love of Hama beads a little while back and bf's suggestion of Futurama based crafts, i came up with these:

All together (they range between 4 - 7 inches long)

Brain slug

More Lrrr

Zoid and Bender

I'm so pleased with how they turned out!  The pictures don't fully do them justice!
Let me know what you think!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Lobster bath mat on: September 18, 2010 01:30:55 PM
We just moved flat and needed something to brighten up the bathroom.  So i searched the web and found nothing pretty or that was affordable.

Therefore, being a craftster i decided to make my own Cheesy

It's just a simple granny square made from chunky wool .  It's about 16 " by 16".

I love lobsters and have a lobster plush that lives in the bathroom, so decided to make the bathroom lobster themed.  So decided to appliqu a lobster onto the mat.  It's made from felt and stitched to add detail/attach it.

Wish the picture did the lobster justice!

I hope you like it Smiley C&C welcome Cheesy
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Cupcake hat flat knitted on: August 16, 2010 06:07:04 AM

http://rsveverka.com/chileconyarne/2008/12/cupcake-hat/ - this url is not working

Hi Smiley

I want to knit the above hat but i'm terrible with DPN's so i was wondering if i could knit it "flat" (just by following the instructions) then sew it to make it round?  (I know it would have a seam).

Is this possible?

Thanks <3
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Cylon Hama Beads on: July 23, 2010 04:56:05 AM
I noticed the Perler bead tutorial was here, so thought this the best place to post these

I made some cylons from Hama beads.  They were a gift in a swap, but i made an extra cylon raider for myself.

Close up of cylon

Further away, the photos don't do it justice i don't think

And my cylon raider, which i just adore.  In fact i adore it so much i have made it into a hair accessory, which i might add a pic of in a few Smiley

Thanks for looking <3

Edited to add some in hair pics Cheesy

Ignore the mess, we're in the process of packing to move
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Battlestar Galactica inspired bag/art on: July 23, 2010 04:50:36 AM
I didn't know which board to post this on, so i hope it's ok here Smiley  I made it for the BSG swap and my partner has received so i can post it here Cheesy

I've never sewn a bag before, so i just got some thick black material and winged a pattern.  I'm very proud of how the bag itself turned out!

THe bag needed BSG-ing and i chose to base it on this painting by Starbuck:

The bag itself, it's quite large, i'd say just over 2 ft wide

I'm proud of my seams

Esp the inside ones, that i managed to make so neat.

So as i can crochet i decided this would be my "paint".  I made long (and i mean LONG) strips of crochet in different colours, then sewed them together in a spiral.  Very time consuming, but i think worth it in the end!

Detail of the strips

The design in the centre

The bag as a whole

Sorry for the picture overload, i'm just v proud of it Cheesy
