1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Working with Chainette on: September 09, 2009 02:10:04 PM
I'm planning to make a Latin dance costume with long chainette tassels, but I'm concerned that chainette ravels easily. It usually comes in fringe form, but the 14" length is expensive. Any tips for working with chainette? Thanks!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Thread Scraps on: July 03, 2009 01:33:00 PM
I organized my threads today and discovered lots of spools with just a couple of yards left on them. Any ideas what I can do with these? With the price of thread these days, I hate to just throw them out.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Painting Tee Shirts on: July 02, 2009 12:31:50 PM
Every year I stock up on a few solid color tee shirts. Last fall I bought some on sale; really nice ones made with a heavier weight cotton with lycra.

Seems that every tee shirt I've ever bought gets a stain on it that just won't come out.

One day I just got fed up, grabbed some paint and a foam stamp and stamped all over that shirt. It was great! I didn't use fabric medium, but you can if you don't want the paint to be stiff.

Just to be sure, I ironed the shirt before wearing. I have washed and dried the shirt and it is just fine.

Since then I have done two more tee shirts. My most recent one has stencilled dragonflies. After painting, I added a very fine glitter made for fabrics, and used rhinestones for the eyes.

Have you guys done any "emergency" painting?

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Finley Lori Blouse on: June 25, 2009 12:13:04 PM
Has anyone come across a pattern similar to this blouse? http://www.brilliantbyz.com/finleyloriportraitcollarshirt.aspx

A coworker is wearing it today in white and it is stunning. I have checked Vogue and Marfy, but can't find anything with a pleated portrait collar.

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Horizontal v. Vertical Spool Pin on: March 05, 2009 06:28:24 AM
One of my machines has a vertical spool pin, the other machine has a horizontal one. Does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of whether the spool pin is horizontal or vertical?
6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Financial Statements on: February 02, 2009 02:53:14 PM
I have access to lots of financial statements sent out by various companies. They use tons of paper and I just hate to throw them out. As you can imagine, there are no pictures, no color, just black on white numbers. Booooring. Can you come up with any ideas?
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Wholesale Purse Handles on: January 15, 2009 03:24:36 PM
Please forgive me if this has been discussed before. I'm trying to locate plastic/acrylic purse handles at a decent price. Some of the so-called wholesale prices are higher than those at Joann! I have already looked at UMEI, Sunbelt Fashions, Createforless, etc. I found a source in Hong Kong, but the shipping costs brought the price right up in line with US retail prices. Thanks for your help!!!

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Braided Ribbon Purse Handles on: November 26, 2008 02:25:33 PM
I saw these purse handles and thought they'd be incredibly easy to make. The only problem is find something to put on the ends that look as professional as these. I saw this handle advertised on eBay for $10!!! Any suggestions? Thanks!!!
