1  COOKING / Dessert / Rainbow birthday cake on: September 17, 2007 06:18:05 AM
Originally I planned to make a rainbow cake by coloring the cake then layer before baking, frost with buttercream and rainbow sprinkles. But thanks to Gwendolynmoom posting her fabulous cake and link for marshmallow fondant, I was able to make my niece and nephew a cool rainbow cake.

Here's a linky of Gwendolynmoon's (my inspiration)

This my first fondant cake, I hope to improve my technique by the next birthday.  The cake was a big hit, everyone loved the taste of the marshmallow. Also dad wants me to make his birthday cake next month!

oh reference to the candles...... I dropped and broke some of the letter candles so sis quickly came up with the idea of B - day (since I broke "I", "R","T"..lol. )

2  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Vintage 60's wrap dress - Simplicity 7572 on: March 22, 2007 08:19:23 AM
I picked up this little gem on Ebay and it showed up in the mail last night. It's a 1968 Simplicity one piece dress pattern. I was so excited I went through my sewing stash to make the dress.  It took longer to prewash and dry the material than sew the dress. I'm all for instant gratification.

Here's the picture of the pattern, (I made style number 2) when I get a chance I will post a pic of the dress.

The dress turned out really cute (I'm wearing it right now). I may add a button for extra security but it's really not needed. I used twill tape instead of braiding. I may make another one with terry  cloth lining as a pool coverup. The options are endless.

This pattern is great for a beginner sewer who likes vintage wear.
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Duran Duran Concert shirt, now a spiffy new messenger bag on: November 15, 2006 01:27:44 PM
I purchased an unlicensed DD concert shirt outside the Costa Mesa show in 2003. I have no idea why I bought it because it's an XL...lol. Fast forward, I found it while looking through some T's to recon and a messenger bag came into mind. I copied the style of my hubby's messenger bag. I'll be stylin' and profilin' as I scoot around town....

I forgot to take a before pic but for your viewing pleasure....

7  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Butterick 3488 - Kid's towel and puppet washcloth (image heavy) on: September 15, 2005 04:41:16 PM
My second project post (I'm on a roll..lol.) I made these for my niece and nephew. I loved the duck wash cloth puppet, I had a hard time parting with it. Cheesy

8  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Simplicity 4747 - Towel and Spa Accessories on: September 15, 2005 04:30:54 PM
This is my first project post. Even added some Sublime stitching to the pocket. I've made 4 of these so far and it has been a very easy pattern to use. I recommended shortening the pattern length otherwise the towel hits below your knees...lol.  Grin  Next I will be making the eye masks and wash mitts to match.

9  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Simplicity Jr Trend Pattern 5200 - skirt on: February 24, 2005 12:26:21 PM

Lurking on the board inspired me to try to sew something last night. I used the  Simplicity Jr Trend pattern Junior Tunic, Tops, Pants, Shorts and Skirts.

I made the skirt in the above photo from the Simplicity pattern (nope, this lovely girl is not me) . This pattern perfect for beginners (or someone like me who can't get past beginner..lol.) It's a great one to try and build confidence in sewing. I'm wearing my skirt now (salmon pink with abstract flowers).

It was very easy to make and cheap only $2.00 for the material. I think I will try to make one of the tops.

I will post my pic when I get a chance.
