thats beautiful! Why did you choose regular thread instead of floss? was in an on hand reason or were you going for detail?

Vanilla chai recipe was sent to cassafrass. i can't seem to find my copy of it. hopefully she'll share it with y'all. Making it made my apartment smell like chai for two days which is not a bad thing at all. The air freshener she made me smells awesome too, and maybe she'll share that? -mer
3  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / spiderwick chronicles costumes on: March 04, 2007 03:35:12 PM
Book People in Austin is having a camp based on the spiderwick chronicles, and i got to help make the costumes. AllisonB did most of the structural designing, and i did a lot of the little detail stuff.
here's a plate from the Spiderwick Guide

and then an almost finished costume. the bigger leaves and some of the smaller ones are faux suede, the longer thin leaves are dupioni and linen.
here's a picture of another elf/fairy costume. the bodice is faux seude, the skirt is dupioni, and the train is cotton gauze.

we're still working on the last little details of a few other, and i'll post those when we're done.

I made this for my sister. Instead of doing a satin stitch for the whole thing i used an applique method. all of the edges are embroidered. I wish i had a better close up shot, but I'm a horrible photographer. for the hair and eyelashes i mixed two colors and it looks neat.

sound - a shaker! (tube filled with light green beads!)
taste - tictacs, apple flavored gum and jollyranchers, and not pictured cause i ate it was a watermelon lollipop.

I used chain stitch for the "branches" and did a backstitch to outline the dots, and a satin stitch to fill in. I tend to stick to the simple stitches. stitch along soon then?
